I was about to suggest that. I created 5 portals 1 for each difficulty and name them forrest 20,30,40,50 and so on...the best thing is anyone on your world could open them up and they always stay active.
I actually went the opposite way with base design. One of the biggest complaints I have about building in survival games is they often don't really require much space, which gets boring. I used the augmentation system as an excuse to build larger. I actually made individual crafting rooms based on the game's grouping, like tailoring.
Great video. I feel the developer should remove the augment limit. I like the system of the augments. But the limitation is not needed. I should not have to pick up and move my tables around. Just unlock as I add them.
Interesting you brought up the copy/move/remove. I just read a review of Nightingale in a major outlet by a well known journalist who literally said the game doesn't have any way to move equipment. This was published 3/7/24.
Another huge huge reason for doors. (not so much in an Abeyance Realm) But, Some of the critters will steal out of your chests, I had a harpy steal 4 fen bass oil I had sitting in a chest next to a quest NPC (I needed 4 more so I was keeping it by the NPC to keep it safe....little did I know the Harpy could steal it, and run off, and it wasnt until it was long gone that I realised)
One thing I want to point out about your stations and augmentations, if you use higher quality items to make your stations, it'll allow for more slots for augmentations. So always worth to do it if you have the materials to do so. Even moreso when you reach endgame, obviously. So you might want to recraft a few of them with higher tier mats and see the results for yourself. No harm since it's 100% mat refund when dismantling.
Loooove the suggestion of putting all the augments in the middle of a room. I'm still on the 'Building shacks' stage. I just picked up Tudor building last night. I've been dreading this day because now I definitely need to start my teardown/rebuild. Great video, very helpful!
Seems people got the rename portals thing. You can also do that with storage. Also if you are going to give your recruit a harvesting tool make sure they have a box they can access full of wood. You don't want your higher tier wood being used as fuel.
I just tried to create an annex for my crude house and for some reason, roofs I had cannot be rebuilt, even though I put everything back like it was. Time to go unlock the tudor stuff and make a new house! This was the inspiration I needed!
I have had a few wolves attack me in my house. But I got annoyed when a couple of them were attacking my portals. So I build a stone wall around the whole complex. Now I just get free deer showing up and they can't get out.
Any Discussion on the Build Limits 300 items per structure limits Large buildings, ive seen people cheap it and make some that blend but that limit is VERY restricted
Excellent video. I started playing Nightingale recently and been having loads of fun building my base, going for a castle theme. I found your video useful, especially concerning doors and your experience with a hippo rampaging through your place. So I am looking for tips, advice on anything concerning base building. Right now I do have a question... I am considering building a base over water and I am curious as to how far out into the ocean can the building tiles be built into. I'm currently doing an experiment to find out, but if you happen to know that'll save me a lot of running around.
Nice video, thanks for the info! If I can ask something though, you sometimes move the camera so much it's uncomfortable to watch. If you could minimise that a little I would find the videos easier to follow.
make a realm that is easy to you. use the trickster -lesser card. and you get A TON of high lvl stuff on lower levels while you are the top dog in there
Nice theory, but crafting stations on the edges with augmentations in the middle doesn't work. That was my original design and is the primary reason I had to redo the whole thing. Separate your crafting area by the two subheadings in the game: Basics & Repair, and Refinement. Make a circle, a square, a horseshoe shape, whatever you want for each of the two, and then put the augmentations in the middle of each section. You may need to place a few augs in both, but there aren't many, and you don't need to ever move augs with this dual layout. I eventually may publish a detailed layout but I haven't worked out a perfect, or close to perfect, setup with proper workflow analysis and design yet as I've only played for 130h.
Another excellent ,relaxed video ..cool thanks! ps. maybe you already tried it but i saw on another channel that if you make a fisherman's basket and put it in front of the mini portals you can rename the basket, name it something to do with the particular portal then u can just hover your mouse over the basket to see which portal it is.
would love a slowed down version of what augments you have n where, cos i know you wont need all 30 ever... but it'd be good to know which ones you do have down. tried to watch a few times to see which ones you do have n where, but you move SO FAST >
Best tip I’m about to give you all and it’s not even a troll or bad one…. Don’t give your ai partner an axe and build in the forest…it’s bad news bears…trees are longer than they appear…
when i learned the maul i gave that to the NPC AI just so they stop dropping trees on the things i build or myself died a few times from them felling a tree on to me.
not sure if anyone in the comment said it but since the video release You can tell what cards are slot in the portal, and not just the one you crafted.
HELP, I've gone through 3 iterations of Nightingale but restarted because I can't seem to get my assistant geared with new gear! He always Becomes basically naked and never equips the gear or things like axes etc! Please let me know how to do it!!!
Can we all just spend a minute talking about how these game developers are going a little nuts on the number of benches/augmentations/etc? It is to the point where each new game that comes out seems to try to one-up the last game. I mean, ffs, it's such a grindy pain in the ass. Just let use keep the current bench in place and "upgrade" it right there or keep the same bench and let us just add more recipes over time.
Since it has to be an abeyance realm, it only leaves the choice of biome. Swamps have lot of available fiber and food, but really, just swinging a scythe while running through the swamps you visit is plenty enough. It's essentially just cosmetic.
Yup I've eliminated the ones close to my base that if they regrow will be in the way save for one stump next to my portals that's bugged. It has no hitbox, even tho it shows the axe icon. It literally won't take damage.
Nah, he doesn't. If you check, only one is recruited, others are recruitable. If the recruit is from this realm, they'll hang around where you've dismissed them, it seems (I have one wandering around my base too). Then just go out and recruit another. Keep in mind that if the recruit is from a different realm, they leave your realm when you dismiss them (leaving behind a box with their items). I've not yet checked if they will be recruitable again in their original realm, then.
Gear glitch on followers. I lost 2 complete NPC lvl sets where I entered the portal (Gloom Swamp twice). The Npc stayed behind and reset. When I came back to my home realm the npc was disbanded and gear was reset to stock. The Devs know the issue and posted it was going to get looked into. I only use 3 pieces of upgrade gear and axe now on npc.
Another way to identify the portals, put a toolbox in front of each one, and in each one put a copy of the two cards used on that portal. That way you can use the toolbox and immediately see what it's set to, so long as you remember to keep the cards up to date.
Too many lamps but no real inside decor like flowers, paintings and such. Also can´t seem to able to put anything on the shelves. I do love the desert set above all, also fairly easy to build ... just need a lot of stone if you go big.
Wait, you can have too many? I heard you say that and even played it over. So if I had more than one of the same augmentation that will happen? Like if I had two saw horses or two saddle things it would cancel out? Does that count for things like light? (Or is light not considered an augmentation) I’m so confused with this stuff. I would swear I had one filled up, then it’s not. When I upgraded to refined stations I expected to have more augmentation slots, therefore they’d not be full anymore, but I didn’t expect to have way less period. Auughhh!!!! lol If anyone wants to spend a little time explaining this to my dumbass self, it’d be appreciated. I’ll be checking back. Pre thanks if anyone does.
@True Vanguard AUGMENTATIONS: I've hit on a MUCH better method! Less messy, and you won't overload each crafting station with more augmentations than it has space for. Here's how: Go to your crafting menu ... the general one, NOT the ones you get when you use a crafting station (i,.e. hit B on your keyboard ). Now, go to the crafting menu and, section by section, go through EACH item and look at what augmentations they require. You will note, and THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT, that the augmentations required for different items always come in sets. So if something requires a set with bellows in it, any other item that requires bellows will also require all the items in the set that contains bellows. They're always the same! So out of everything within that set, you will need JUST the bellows or any other single item within that set. You'll identify a few different 'sets' for each crafting station, but nowhere near the number of augmentations in total that affect that crafting station. So choose just ONE item from each 'set' to put next to your crafting station. You won't need more than maybe two or three, maybe four in some cases. But that's it. If you don't like those big bulky augmentations, choose a small one from the same set instead. Choose whatever you want! Make it look nice :) You really, really don't need all the augmentations! Nice as decor for your base, though :)
Just a quick heads up, you can hold "E" and rename the portals. Just rename them "Gloom Swamp" or what have you.
I was about to suggest that. I created 5 portals 1 for each difficulty and name them forrest 20,30,40,50 and so on...the best thing is anyone on your world could open them up and they always stay active.

You should remove the old gear from the survivors inventory :o
Do augments work vertically, or do they have to be on the same floor?
make a realm that is easy to you. use the trickster -lesser card. and you get A TON of high lvl stuff on lower levels while you are the top dog in there
How do you know how close the augmentation has to be to a station in order for it to still work?
That’s what the green lines are. When you’re moving it around, and the lines disappear, they’re out of range.
Bro hold e at the portals and rename them. Lol a notepad next to you. This had me laughing. Thank you for the good laugh. Solid video, btw

Hey that’s a neat tip 👍
Why the extra work when you can rename your portals
Yeah just hold E to rename portals
Ah ok ...didn't know u can rename the portals ..cool!
..can u read the name without clicking on the portal? ...mouse over it i mean?
Yes. You just have to look at the frame of the portal for the name to appear
I rename my portals, with hints to where they go

I learned this the hard way. 🤦🏻♀️
i was doing an aid quest to help build a structure and the ai demolished the whole thing with a falling tree right before i finished
This is one of the most helpful and informative videos I've watched on Nightingale. Thank you!
Uiii, you could rename boxes and portals, just hold E a bit longer.
Thanks for the good info
Can you tell me what your dimensions are for your building?
Hey don’t be hatin on Nelson. He’s just a young Virgil Earp from Tombstone 😂
Renaming portals is a thing. And you can add the initials or names of the NPCs to it too. Easy mission tips
Ne'er-do-well every time. You get all the plans from doing map events. GS 119 with 22 lights and 29 augmentations from map events.
Where do you get the axepick reciepe?
I believe it's in the Hunt Forest biome vendor..
@nathantumulty7172 thanks I'll have to run and look

What realm type is best for have the base when longer into the game? Im still in my start forest?

I drop a wicker basket by a portal and name it where the portal leads ;)
My chandelier fought a boss and won.
Can't you put items that remember you of the environment in front of the portals?
No, hold E to rename ;)
I spent time and effort to make my recruit better gear only for him to disappear, can't find him anywhere...
Why is everyone saying you get everything back, its half back on most things
just put grass basket next to portal and name it, no pen and paper needed
😂 nice eyebrows
Seriously! X! I was unbuilding stuff with my axe! If satisfaying, not really efficient.
you did not get that far in 40 hrs unless the devs gave you some help!
