    Tractor supply would be a better place to look for preps. Tools, seeds, feed, fencing, and they have knives too.

    Not a well-rounded show in Boulder, CO? Not surprised. Don't most of those people believe the government will save them? They sure vote that way.

    Thanks you two for sharing your experience, and yes I was asking questions about what you viewed! I believe as you that gardening and nutrition should have been included in a prepping show? I have a military survival manual as a great reference, and I learned that the long term food is just calories with little concern for nutrients! Great content and thanks again for your hard work and Greetings from Bluff Country Iowa

      Thanks so much. Bryan has both military and current medical experience. Amy is a nutritionist and beekeeper and the main food preparer of the house, so we do have good knowledge between the two of us. We are very glad to have a freeze dryer and dehydrator to put away food as we can. And once we get the greenhouse going (year round) we'll have a reliable way to produce it! Thanks for the comment!!

    The problem is the people who go these shows hardly ever buy any of the prepper stuff . The cost of setting up, is very expensive. So the vendors must sell the items that sell and sell for a profit. Yes people talk like they will buy the prepper stuff but, they really don't. They are more likely to order the stuff off Amazon when they get home. So, your lucky they even tried to have a prepper show

    • @ColoradoMountainLiving
      @ColoradoMountainLiving  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I understand the expense of vendor shows, as I am an artist/vendor myself and used to paying $500 for a vendor spot at markets. I think people get into the business of "vending"' without a solid understanding of the financial side of what it takes to turn a profit and how that may/may not match with their audience's buying capacity.

  • @craigb8145

    Hi guys I agree it looked very lax on preps! But I do think you are on the right track! I have gotten a empty trauma bag and filled it out with med supplies not alot of band aid's. Some of the prep food stores is good but your right to put away your own foods. The idea of seeds is a great way of going forward but go to a spring Home & Garden show to get your seeds. Choose the ones you can grow and like. Then pick what you can grow in one season & double the amount of seeds you get. Put half of them back for security of one season growing. As for power look into various solar, battery back-up systems. I agree with your ideas alot on self reliance. Plus Im in Alaska and you have to prepare for" what if" more than most people, these are good things to really look into! Best of luck on your educational journey, Craig

    That was a horrible show. Prepping has 2 styles, Bug in or Bug out. Your homestead is in a position that you would bug in. Not many events of that type in that area due to the political environment. Have to go to a show in Wyoming, Montana or Kansas. Most preppers are loners by nature so they don't really have a big shows. I just use common sense.... Overlander, Homesteading, and wilderness survival. You are already on a pretty good start where you are headed now. Add get medical Training, Get books, Grow your own medicine precursors (various herbs and certain flowers)....get training (FieldCraft Survival) and yes...Learn how to use the so called weapons of mass destruction (smh). Bushcrafting and Prepping to hand in hand.

    • @ColoradoMountainLiving
      @ColoradoMountainLiving  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thanks so much. Bryan has the military and medical background (he's a physician assistant and he also took a wilderness survival course) so we got those bases covered. Amy is a dietitian and beekeeper and food preparer and amateur herbalist, so we got a lot of knowledge already. More foraging/fieldcraft would be good, as well as hunting/fishing practice. The freeze dryer has been great and Amy has prepared over 20 pounds of food already this winter. the green house will be a key step to securing year round growing. Bryan has ideas for underground bunker, but that project may be several years off. hopefully not too many!

  • @phillully4472

    • @MosaicHomestead
      @MosaicHomestead 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most items preppers buy is cheap Chinese goods anyway, that's why a lot of them will be in trouble if anything happens, homesteading is the way to go, building power and water infrastructure that is fully sustainable, growing food, raising animals, learning how to build off grid, these things for me are important

  • @brentbarr7800

    • @brentbarr7800
      @brentbarr7800 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@consco3667 power use depends on which size freeze dryer you have. Yes, they are pricey, but it is better to spend money on something that will preserve the type and quality food you eat now so your body won’t have you rue the day you purchased commercial companies garbage low quality food. If you do not currently eat the commercial companies meals, you don’t want to eat them later. You have to “store what you eat and eat what you store”. There are several freeze dryer companies. Harvest Right, Blue Alpine, The Cube by Prep4life, Etc. Many of them even have payment plans available.
      I cringe when I see and hear people spending their hard earned money on commercial food storage and realize they got duped. Food storage companies are not dietary conscious to peoples needs.

    I believe that "Preppers" should acquire old time know how, and common sense application....think about what you are doing, and how to do it safely. I grew up ruraly, 60 miles from a town, with the nearest neighbor 5 miles away. You learn to do it yourself, or make do. Self defense and tactics , or a tactical offence are second nature, as being a trapper taught that. (most animals are far smarter than the average human) A roll of 3/32" cable will make a lot of snares, garrotes, set lines, trip wires, clothes line traps and clothes dryers....camp safety and first aid are no brainers. Pemmican, jerky and home canning and preservation, pickling is a great year round snack provider besides being a "prepper" commodity. Foo Fraws, Fantasy Knives and Throwing Stars are no where as intimidating as being gut shot by a .22 short.....Common Sense and no B.S. application. Just my take, acquired over the last 70 years.

    Being prepared and being a militia are 2 different things. Pushing a militia agenda seems to be the new preparedness.

      Its because prepping is a type of paranoia. The paranoid militaristic types will take to it pretty easily until they are the dominant voice.

    Pretty much just a local gun and knife show.

    UGH! That “show” looked like every gun show I have ever attended; maybe 5% actual quality gear and 95% cheap Chinesium garbage, a large percentage of which has nothing to do with the stated purpose of the show. It should’ve been advertised as a flea market instead.

    So... it's a gun show sans guns? It looks pretty much identical to the gun show we have here but without the actual guns. Why I quit going, the gun prices were pretty standard, as were ammo, and you have to pay to look at peoples cool collections of stuff you don't need.

      @@ColoradoMountainLiving Rule of thumb when handling bladed weapons, treat them like extremely large razor blades. Because the good ones are that sharp.

    Seemed VERY disappointing. I definitely see the mind set of the prepper. At least in that area. Nothing that inspired a Godly perspective and a spiritual preparedness.
