I did the same thing to my 1st home! I used an Aprilaire & added a 3 zone controller (DURA-ZONE!)! My wife had a building contractor add square footage to our upper level! We had a 2.5 HP ton system & I changed to a 3 ton heat pump with a 3.5 ton air handler!!! Then she had the house expanded (perfect timing NOT!!!) So I installed 3 zones! One for the kitchen, one for the bedrooms & bathrooms, and one for the add on great room with high ceiling!!! It worked great except during extreme hot summers! (Also installed an attic exhaust fan to help take load off during hot summers). It all worked ok but the expansion of the house really required a bigger system all together! 4/5 tons for 2000 plus square foot house now! Of course my wife didn’t understand because I was the HVAC GUY & SHE WAS THE THERAPIST! I squeezed everything out of that smaller system & made it work for the time we lived there! Learned a valuable lesson too! BEFORE YOU REPLACE YOUR EXISTING SYSTEM/AC…… MAKE SURE YOUR SPOUSE ISN’T TRYING TO RENOVATE YOUR HOUSE WITH WAY MORE SQUARE FOOTAGE!!!!! After you know how much house you are dealing with…. You know how big a “CENTRAL/HVAC SYSTEM YOUR GONNA NEED!” Class dismissed 🤠🤔😉😂
New construction in February 2023 on a 2 level home. 2,213 sq/ft main floor and 1,484 sq/ft walk-out finished basement. Basement will be a full-time living area for our kids until they fly the coop. I have been quoted $19,340 for a 4 ton Ruud heat pump, 3 stage with 18 SEER. I requested a 2-zone system (basement zone 2) and have been quoted an extra $7,140. Just curious if you could give some feedback if that is extraordinarily high? I feel okay with heat pump and ductwork pricing. It is the zoning cost that I am concerned about. Great channel. Thanks in advance.
For those that do not have a Dad that can do this; What did all that cost? Try the EG4 Solar Mini Splits. They can run completely on solar and switch to grid when the sun goes down. You can use multiple units for zoning. They also heat in the winter. Comparing a Central AC to this Mini Split: Condenser 240VAC - L1= 18.21A L2= 15.51A Blower Motor 120VAC= 2.7A $8000.00 EG4 Solar Mini Split 6.5A DC Solar or 6.66A AC Grid Automatic Switching .35A Grid Standby Current You can run it on just solar when the sun is out. Totally Free Energy. You do not have to connect to grid at all. DIY Installation, lines pre-charged. $2600.00 Any questions?
Question -- I have similar setup on my house. When both thermostats are calling for air, the blower now has to support both zones at the same time, which in turn reduces the amount of air coming out of the registers and increases the amount of time it takes for the thermostats to reach set temp.. is there a way for the first zone to satisfy before it goes to the second zone? I do this manually when I am home and can catch it, and it seems to be more efficient in reducing run time, but it would be nice if I could interlock it so they have to "wait their turn".. It's a new house and new unit, so individual zone run time is short being that it is well insulated
I have this type of system. All of a sudden I'm not getting air upstairs. I've made some calls but its going to be after the holidays. Trying to figure out how troubleshoot
good video, whats your opinion about I am changing my hvac system, do i need to chnge my damper motor, and zone system panel now. I already have when i bought the house
I would love a video on how to adjust the mulitple zone damper system. Mine isn't working. Main floor is set at 80 but temp is 70. Third floor is set at 74 and cools to 74. Anyone know how to adjust dampers or is there another problem going on.
If you have good access to your supply duct work it’s a good option! One system serving 2 levels will usually have hot cold issues! Upper hot during summer! Lower colder in winter! Split level houses have same problems too! I was at a house yesterday complaining about hotter upper! Luckily they had a clogged filter! So we’ll see how it goes when it gets hotter! The last tenants complained hot upper as well! I double checked access for zone being installed….. if new tenants complain again I’m proposing landlord have 2 zone installed! And possible 1/2 ton more system! (if still complaints) 2.5 ton outdoor changed to 3 ton if necessary 👌👍🏽🙏🏽 (there’s a 3 ton furnace & evap on the inside)….. gotta keep your eyes open as a service tech to solve potential problems too! I’m teaching a guy right now! Unfortunately I fell ill and no longer do full time HVAC! Passing the torch I feel will still be beneficial to the public 💪👌! Good luck on whatever you do! Install manual dampers & adjust seasonally or install electric dampers with control system as this guy spoke of! Aprilaire Dura zone or Honeywell! These 3 are good options for standard systems!!!! (Dual fuel systems you have to check your options of zone controls!) Carrier has a more complex type for infinity system! Don’t use if you don’t have infinity A/C & Furnace!!!
I have 2 apartment and a finish basement. Can I have the 2nd apartment with the basement as one zone and the 1st apartment / side Apartment as a separate ZONE?
i have a year old house ranch style the master bedroom dont kool or heat like the livingroom i was told to get a motorized dampner to solve that problem how much did that cost and were you purchased that?
Great question! We actually answer your question in the video we just posted today: th-cam.com/video/uJHyVj2fY0Q/w-d-xo.html. Your question is addressed around seven minutes into the video.
Thanks for watching! I highly recommend zoning if you have areas in your home that get too hot or too cold. It works great! See you next week!
What Thermostat is the best for 3 zones,

What Thermostat did you use?
My my you're blessed. He's a keeper.

explained so we all understand finally!
I'm curious on about how much this cost.
Do you need a return vent for every zone?
I won’t to do this but I’ve heard people complaining about the Dampers getting stuck constantly.
Just installed this today 🎉
For those that do not have a Dad that can do this;

Any questions?
Static pressure, returns and dump zone or barometric damper for return air? I wonder how it works with the furnace😮❤🎉😅🥵🔥🫣🤔😎

So cool! How much would something like this cost to add to a system?
Alot
How does this effect your static pressure . Does zoning panel lower fan speed while half of house is closed?
I have this type of system. All of a sudden I'm not getting air upstairs. I've made some calls but its going to be after the holidays. Trying to figure out how troubleshoot
Thanks for the video! But if you close the basement door in the winter, won't it restrict the air return?
Does the air-handler modulate when demand is for one floor let's say ?
Do you have the returns zoned as well?
good video, whats your opinion about I am changing my hvac system, do i need to chnge my damper motor, and zone system panel now. I already have when i bought the house

Yes, I think you can do this with most zone control systems. I have used the SmartZone in a similar application.
Probably adding a new unit is much easier.😅
i have a year old house ranch style the master bedroom dont kool or heat like the livingroom i was told to get a motorized dampner to solve that problem how much did that cost and were you purchased that?
I want to do this to my home, but I was concerned about backpressure with the closed damper. What are your thoughts?

U require a variable speed blower
That flue pipe doesn't meet code
