This was my first NFS I owned. And after that, a month ago I finally managed to buy an actual Porsche. This game gave me good vibes and prepared me for this
NFS Porsche always stood out from the rest for me, the graphics and music gave it a specific style/vibe that I dig as a child and to this day. Still play it too! By far my favourite was Factory Driver and the licence images they gave you. Using your own photo was also a fun little feature.
The soundtrack here is one of my favourites from the classic games, same goes for the track design and handling model.

This is the game that started my lifelong obsession with Porsche. My very first Porsche was a 996 Cabriolet, like the ones featured in this game. I still play this game to this very day. Thank you Kuru for continuing to showcase this amazing classic!
My favourite Porsche cars in NFS PU surprisingly are Porsche race cars like 911 GT3, GT2, GT1, and 917K (Also in GT7).
Need For Speed Porsche 2000 is period the best NFS in the whole franchise. While I enjoyed Carbon and Most Wanted a lot, it's Porsche that gave me the most joy. I think it was a combination of revolutionary graphics for it's time (just compare High Stakes with Porsche), driving physics, music, brand and gameplay modes which weren't a simple "race and progress" modes but a story of a whole (almost) brand line-up with possibility to tune the cars and drive as a factory driver with many challenges. And with steering wheel it's completely different experience
I am deeply saddened we will not see any sort of a remake of this awesome game, perhaps fan made mods to Assetto Corsa but still it won't be the same.
Back in 2000 i was into this game & i was also involved in the modding community specifically importing / exporting car meshes to modify & reinsert into the game. While experimenting with files conversions i created a frankenstein Porsche that kinda looked like a dune buggy but really was a Porsche missing body pieces. While testing the vehicle i discovered that the car could drive through walls of a track and drive on a plane without graphics and friction so it was like driving on ice. I could drive by watching the map and just drive to the finish line and drop out of the sky and cross the finish line in a time that would be like just over a minute or less on any track. The online servers were very competitive and accusations of cheating daily ... i posted on the EA forums that i could break any track record by over 2 minutes and a EA Dev from the forums dared me to it that night while he claimed their servers were unhackable. That night i executed my drive thru wall glitch and beat a world record by over 2 minutes. Well the next morning i woke to see the forums were lit up with 1000s of posts about myself hacking EA's servers and my online account was deleted and EA sent me an email threatening to have me arrested & sued for hacking if i didnt tell them how i did it. I had logged the dare from the EA Dev which gave me permission to use my 'hack'. Nothing happened and i ended up using that incident on my resume to actually land a consulting gig to secure EA software in 2004 ... so the moral of the story is hacking does pay off.
29:34 RUF is more of its own manufacturer now. While they did use the shells of Porsches along with their engines, they use so much original parts for their cars specifically built by them that they aren't simply tuned Porsches but their own vehicles now with their own VINs.
If Kuru's parents got him to karting, Leclerc wouldn't need to ask who he is.

If someone does, they better use same physics, or physics from another franchise, such as Forza Horizon. The handling of new NFS games suck massive unicorn wang.

Yep. The PC handling in NFSPU is surprisingly fluid unlike V Rally 2 esque handling in PS1 port
For the PSone version, you can beat the tournament with the 928 GTS against the 930 Turbo.
Modern racing game developers in general need to play older racing games. I'm surprised that game developers in modern criterion haven't played older need for speed games
2000s Criterion did play NFS like these.
The definition of older need for speed games for modern Criterion is now Underground and Most Wanted only.
This game deserve a remaster with the newer Porsche cars and modern landscapes

The thing that I hated about Porsche Unleashed was how slow the cars were in the beginning compared to the length of the tracks. The races were too long and boring, and the AI was dumb and unforgiving at the same time. It was easy to overtake them in the beginning, but if they overtook you at any point, they'd blitz ahead and you'd never catch them. You were money starved in the evolution game mode in the beginning, and then suddenly you had more money than what you knew to do with. But what I loved about the game was the modding community. A lot of 3d artists had their start modding this game

All of the EA Canada NFS games had too long tracks for some reason, even when compared to the Seattle versions. Its like if they were way too proud of making incredible looking tracks (for its time).
@@sebastianaliandkulcheIt was what people thought racing games should be like at the time. People were used to sega rally arcade types where you try to squeeze as much game time from your money as possible. They were afraid that reviewers and users would lambast them for the game being too short.
@@MenkoDany I never played any of the arcade rally games minus some PS1 ones which werent like that. Short tracks arent inherently bad, and im not against 5+ minutes tracks but not if even the first tracks are like that. And the tracks should try to adapt to all cars, not just the fastest ones.
I couldn't get thru one of the gymkhana style factory driver missions. Great game for the time. I learn a lot about Porsche playing it.

I remember the cab from 1950 having way better resale later on. While the coupe barely appreciates.
The 1973 Carrera RS is also an easy money maker.
That said the used car sales are the easiest.

Played the PS1 version and actually liked it a lot apart from the physics being a bit janky. The music and the fact the track's background change depending on the era is really cool in the PS1 version, it even had a small free roam mode with cops and npc traffic to try out cars. A lot of the features in the PS1 version are similar to TDU because it was made by the same studio, Eden games.
I tried to play the PC version but I couldn't get it to launch, it kept crashing instantly after showing the loading screen.
The PC version only works in modern PC with patches, there is a lot of TH-cam tutorials about this.
@@Victor_2000sthe handling in NFSPU PS1 is as rough like in V Rally 2 but still 9.6/10 game overall. Shioriko Uehara and Ayumu Uehara both also loved this game.
@@purwantiallan5089 The handling its horrendous because the car slides so much and the track have a lot of sharp turns.
Sometimes I feel like this was the last legendary NFS game.
I cannot get this game to run on modern hardware, but it was the 1st NFS i played and I want to revisit it...
Porsche Unleashed is definitely one of the best Classic NFS Games, really hope to find somewhere to download the PC version, and about that tournament you participated years ago, when did the tournament happened? Even if I don't find anything about'it, it could be a great start for the search and maybe someone else could find something

2023 here again, almost 4 months after Nijigasaki NEXT SKY SEASON 3 OVA. NFS PORSCHE UNLEASHED for me is still one of the best NFS GAMES EVER!
This was also my favorite classic Need for speed. So much replay-ability and beat the game a few times with just the keyboard controls. Good to see you giving this one the credit it deserves and I'm definitely going to revisit this one soon with an emulator.

Hi KURU! First time watching your video. I just installed this game in my windows 10 PC. It is running properly and i did the 356, 356A, and 356B tournaments in EVOLUTION. Now i am yet to do the 2000cc challenge. However my "Porsche Centre" is stuck to 2 cars only, the 911 coupe and the 356B GS Carrera 2. I am not able to see any other cars in the "CAR" dropdown tab. Is this a bug?
And fater that EA had the Porsche license forever but never used it to that extend again :) Iam too young for this game ( started with Underground 1 :), but I can see the appeal. No way Porsche would allow cars to be damaged this way today, that said driving clean is necessary to not get crushed by repair bills...

The game only works on Windows 10 if you install a lot of patches on it. There is TH-cam tutorials about that.

I remember playing this game back in 2003. My garbo videocard somehow was not loading textures on half of the tracks (excl. Pyrenees, Industrial Zone and all Monte-Carlos), but I beat it just driving on the center using minimap (Auvergne almost gave me PTSD).
This game made me absolute fan of the classic Porsches, and I hate EA for that ridiculous exclusive rights deal. Because of this, there is no Porsches in non-NFS games in 20 years (God praise the Ruf has manufacturer status), and in the NFS titles is almost always the same s%#tty set of entry level (Cayman or Boxster), last generation of 911 and hypercar (Carrera GT or 918 Spyder). I mean, where were lovely front-engine cars like 944 or 928, air-cooled 930 or 964, or classic hypercar 959?!😡
And now I'm missing the Rufs, that almost disappeared from games after exclusive rights were expired. It will be great to see the Yellowbird or some RK or RGT on same track with its Porsche counterparts...
RUF are still appearing in games likes Gran Turismo 7, The Crew 2 and Assoluto Racing.

Honestly speaking as someone who is more mature now in terms of age, I really appreciate simcades more, like in the last 6 years I finished (100% completion) the 1st 4 Forza Motorsport games, 1st 4 Gran Turismo games and recently the NFS Shift games and Porsche Unleashed. Porsche Unleashed is one of the best NFS games ever made, the reward system in this game is great as it encourages you to drive perfectly clean for more cash and the further you progress in the career mode and you get reward cars it feels satisfying. Love the amount of content and cars in this game, it was great cornering at amazing speeds with the 911 GT1.
That said MS paid EA to use Porsche for FM3 and FM4 (Porsche cars were a Dlc in the latter).
I played the PSX version. It was better than the PC version.
Never, PC version its better which have more content and better gameplay that doesn't reused the drifty V-Rally 2 physics.
We prefer more episodes than one longer from one game. Last year there were episodes from every NFS game starting from NFS 1! This is my 3rd NFS marathon I think

I loved how you could flip cars like crazy in Career Mode. It was a very easy way to get money if you knew how to cheese the system.

That game works on weak PCs, the console versions are different and inferior.
Change the camera, it's not an RC car! Drive from inside for more realistic feel.
Loved the game but the sense of speed ruined it for me, no matter how fast you'd go it always felt like you were crawling. Going 250 felt like you were going 100

Never played Porsche Unleashed. My OG NFS would be NFS II. In my opinion, NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 has the best handling of all NFS games
the game that made me fall in love with porsche's , not my favorite , 2nd favorite, my oldest brother (44) loves this game , am just sad that you skipped NFS 4
so me and the boys had an amazing night last week , we set this game on my laptop and we just race on monte 3 , everyone was trying to set a lap record, we took turns, old school style
I also quite liked this NFS but the handling has some weirdness similar to input lag. Early game is playable but with faster cars when you need quicker and more precise response it becomes so bad the game stops being fun for me.
The finest classic era NFS as far as I'm concerned, too. I wish we'd get a modern game in this vein again, focused on car culture and historic locations. There's definitely still an audience for this type of game out there, but considering NFS still has an identity crisis up to this day, that's probably not happening anytime soon, or ever.
And perhaps for the better, honestly at this point I'd much rather have the franchise retired to its grave for good, tired of seeing it becoming more and more of a meme and irrelevant with each new entry. The cool kids these days don't care for this kind of stuff anyway.
PSX version is rubbish based on V-rally engine.
