It's just before Christmas and we've made our way back to Grand Bahama. We have two main tasks here: Pick up provisions and get my brother. Turns out picking up provisions was enough of an adventure so we had to share the experience.
As a full-time cruiser our sailboat is pretty well stocked, but the occasional grocery store run is a necessity. I think this video sums up pretty well one of the differences between life on a sailboat and that of a sticks-and-bricks life.

To answer one of the questions I know we're going to get: Is this Christmas? Are you that behind?
Yes this video is from December 2016. I do know it is now early Feb 2017. Sadly, we can't film, travel, edit, sail, live and share all in the moment. If you didn't know before, consider this your official heads up that our videos are almost always a few weeks behind the current date. Thanks for watching and...Happy Christmas to everyone, enjoy. ;)

This video brought back a ton of memories. I was in the marina at Port Lucaya when the island was evacuated during Hurricane Katrina. In 1966 when traveling from San Diego to Okinawa onboard a troop transport (the USS Simon B. I took a Polaroid photo of the glassy water and to this day am amazed at how calm the ocean looked. Loving your videos.

I had several of my hats go in the drink while boating. I even tried to rig some sort of chin strap and it looked exactly like it what is was, a jury rigged chin strap. Then, I found Tilley hats (choir and music in the background now). They are perfect for sailing. They come in multiple styles. They have a chin strap and an optional strap that goes around the back of your head. Sometimes I tuck them both away and sometimes when it is really blowing I use both. This is helpful on top of the Empire State Building and on the water when the wind is blowing hard. Their hats even have a foam pad in the top to keep them floating if they do end up in the drink. I've already had one bout with skin cancer so I also like the full brim for protection from the sun. They come in real hat sizes, not a generic small, medium, or large so I can get a good fit.

What a refreshing sight. Now that was a glassy sea. Was showing Kayla a bunch of heavy seas videos earlier today to show her what she'd have to prepare for (always be prepared for the worst), with the caveat that very few cruisers ever get caught in those, and that EVERYONE tries to avoid those conditions in the first place.

You two are just like my hubby and me... The Wife is always "right", until the world goes "left"! I hate to be wrong and my husband enjoys it a little too much when I am, making it even more painful to live with :) Anyway, just wanted to share that with you so you know your fans understands those currents.
Jason, Remember you said "Happy Wife= Happy life" in one of your RV videos. Don't mess it up now, after you made all think you are brilliant in understanding your better half! LOL.
Also, another thing Nikki does that my Mom always did, was serve her man a beautiful plate/bowl of wonderful food. And just like Jason, that would make my Dad smile so big and brilliantly- it could light up the earth. I miss my Mom and Dad every day. Nikki, every time you serve Jason a meal, it touches my heart in such a special way, knowing that gesture of love still is a standard that lives on through out time.
    Thank you!

The calm reminds me of my time in the Navy in the early sixties. We would sail to a spot halfway between Midway island and Adak Alaska. One month we would have 70 foot seas and 100mph winds and another month, usually April, the sea would be just like glass. Even smoother than in your video. I was truely an eery feeling.

That dead calm was beautiful! Thanks for the footage. You brought back memories. I used to live in FL and we made the crossing once and stayed at that marina at Port Lucaya. I got my PADI Open Water certification there. Really great dive operation there. You can dive with sharks if you are so inclined. True story: We ran into O.J. Simpson there at the Pelican Bay resort. I didn't really know how to handle that so like an idiot I asked if I could take a picture with him. The community was so small there that we kept seeing him after that. You guys are living the dream. I live in Germany now. The water looks so good right now.

Omg how excited am I! It was there that I fell in love with Coconut pancakes and first time I tried ghost pepper! And the conch, omg not sure I’ve had it so good anywhere else. It was Christmas so I heard that music too lol. But the one thing , THE thing that made me really want to cruise were the boats that were there. One was named after me. I knew it was a sign! After that stay we cruised back to Palm Springs and the marina in front of Peanut Island and also through the ICW and that was that. It’s been a mission ever since! Phenomenal video guys! Wonderful sunset and boat shots. Would have also been a great opportunity for some excellent flat water SUP paddling. What a great 'ADVENTCHA'!!!

One trick I do with my hat when I boat is I have two clips tied together with a bit of line. Nothing fancy, just two half hitches. I clip one end to the bad of my hat and then clip the other to the collar of my shirt. It makes recovery SO much easier and it doesn't cost much.

I actually like when I know when the video was filmed. I know that the time for uploading, editing time, and actual living, takes time. I j ust like to know if I'm commenting on something that can affect the outcome, or if it's so far in the past I can't say "STOP! You're going to drown Nikki!!", will have any real effect. Love the vids and the editing. Keep it up!

Was half tempted to see you do a bit of a foray into UrbEx with that abandoned neighbourhood and the hotel !!

My God, I used to live in Fortune Bay, where the canal comes out on the southern side of the island. All long, I am hoping you were not headed to the dreaded City Market for provisioning. It was the most depressing experience. Buy what's not smelling bad, then work out what you can make with it! All that effort just to go to City Market - you guys deserve a medal!!!!

Thanks for the link to the Dinghy ! I kept looking at the engine wondering if it was a Honda ( black ? Not so common ) or the Yamaha. I've never heard of Tohatsu. 2 stroke ? Yuck.... oily, messy, but yeah you get more power. Always a trade off somewhere. Great video with the beautiful sunrise and sunset.

Can you imagine how people did this 20-25 years ago without ipads or affordable hand held GPS? I'd be afraid of losing my boat!

I've been playing catchup on your vids and enjoying them immensely. It's like I'm on the trip with you. After seeing this vid, I doubt I'd enjoy living in the Bahamas. Did you ever find out why so many places were abandoned? I wonder especially about that huge hotel! So sad.
