    Awesome job! You are getting so much done while in college and working. I would not have even attempting something like this project when I was in college. You inspire me to get working on my 61 F100 short box. I love the original gold color. You rarely see gold, but you do see plenty of red galaxies. Keep up the great work!

    Gold is extremely rare and normally saved for custom order cars. My best friend retired from ford proving grounds and was telling me about the car some. It would be interesting to find out who ordered the car back then

    Your video took me back to my 14th year on this earth. My Dad had given me the family's 1959 Galaxy 500 with automatic transmission. Dad had a Ford built 352 installed a couple of years earlier, but gave me the boat when he bought a new/used 68 Ford Custom 500 in mid 69. I was not going to drive a 4 door sedan, so I found a 64 Galaxy like yours at the Ford dealership. It was not cream puff, had a blown 289, 3 speed on the floor but didn't bother me. I had a new 352 to take its place. I bought it for $150 and my older brothers drug it ten miles out to our house. Daddy was NOT happy but he kind of understood. "Well son, looks like you bought yourself a project.". I spent the next six months scouring wrecking yards for parts. Thanks Craig for the trip back down m we memory lane.

    Looking good! I understand and agree about putting off a possible FE. I have yet never seen a roof rust like that unless it had a vinyl top...which was not available. You will make her look nice.
    By the way, that paint color IS the same as my 64 Galaxie was from the factory. I painted it 1955 Mercury Monterey Gulfstream Blue.

    I installed a speedway motors house brand universal harness in my 53 F100 and I have been very pleased with it. It was much cheaper than the more famous brand and it too was painless to install.

    In 72 I bought a 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 XL with 351 Cleveland, sight unseen for $75.00. The only thing I had to do was put a fuel pump on it and change the oil. I sold it in 75 and I wish I could go back and kick my shelf really hard. LOL, Can hardly wait to see how yours turns out.

    There is a red 71 4 door pillarless here in Adelaide South Oz. And a bronze [just like your was] very original 390 coupe as well.
    I have a full size 71 Galaxie, not one of these compact earlier ones!
    With those front springs you can bring them down by putting the jack under the wishbone. And refit them the same way. Just has to be a little higher from the ground.

    Not sure what your plans are for the roof rust, but Auto Metal Direct is cranking out full 64 panels now. Roof panel isn't out yet, but you can call them and they may have an estimated lead time. I just bought full quarters and rear inner and outer wheel wells for mine. Still need lots more. Keep it up man, you're closer than me!

    For safety, you should replace those brakes with a dual circuit master cylinder, proportioning valve and dual circuit plumbing, as well as going to power brakes. I've driven those old cars with non-assisted brakes, you need both feet on the pedal and strong legs to slow them down...much too easy to get in white knuckle situations, plus with the single circuit system, any problem with the system leaves you with NO brakes...that's why federal law mandated dual systems. 67 and newer Galaxies have the dual system so parts should be easy to swap over.

    I can see where your coming from with rigs in California having high miles on them. We get rigs here that they haven't turned over the odometer yet.. 80 90 thou on them and they just getting to run good. We just have so many parts cars to use here and they are so cheap. That is why I suggested it. I got another fifty thou on the ones I put my hands on here before even timing chain and the timing chain they come with are really junkie stuff from factory. At least the wiring is a plug on the dash so having it in the garage and just slowly warping the good stuff back up so it doesn't look like un combed hair

    I know full well what it means to be on a very tight budget, but if time is more readily available to you than money is, work on a bunch of other stuff before putting the front suspension back together. Save up for a disk brake conversion, at least for the front end of your car, it will make a massive difference. It doesn't look like you have power brakes on that car now, but the right kit will include a power brake upgrade.

    • @jewllake
      @jewllake 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, but it will be hard. He has to take the wind lace off around the windows and doors, and then the metal rods that hold the headliner in place. Hopefully the yarn holding it to the rods doesn't disintegrate. My guess, he is going to have to replace it anyways.

You never know when you will come across someone who doesn't care about it being a 390. I have 2 428,s and one 429. I have 500 bucks in both engines. They came out of the late 70's Fords. I have three 65 Galaxies Two Hard Tops and one 4 speed Convertible car. All three have 390 engines in them. Just so you will know, you could've gotten a 390 for less than what you paid for the 302.
