EEEEEL THANK YOU, welcome!!!!
I haven't gone to church in years, but I am still a Christian and study on my own time. I will say.. smaller churches, I DEF saw women wearing their church hats still. Bigger churches, not as many. My own grandmother was keen on dressing nicely for church so I have fond memories of going with her. This is a great video!!
The cat smacking you in the face as you plopped onto the bed made me laugh so hard
Just stumbled across this channel--youtube algorithm is being useful for once. Gurl the editing & content is amazing. Keep it up & the success will surely following.
this was so informative I learned something new today!!! I need to start my church hat collection
Trying to tie Black American church hate culture to Africa is just doing too much. The head wraps, yes, usually very influenced by our African origins, the church hat stuff springs more from European traditions, that we simply did our own thing with. There's nothing to connect it with this "the spirit is in the head" stuff. Africa's great, I've studied quite a bit about particularly west African cultures, but we don't need to tie everything about ourselves to Africa just to have pride in it. We can have pride in our own unique identity as well.
A person's culture is often a reflection of their heritage. Why so many of you try so hard to erase the significance of Africa is beyond me.
@@jaxthewolf4572For real. Even though we had culture stripped from us it dosen't change the fact that some things still lived on especially after the abolishment and especially with cultural wear. We didn't know different braiding techniques out of the blue. The hats are dawned from traditional African head dressing. People carry stuff with them that's why you can never truly erase culture because it still carries on in the people who remember it, in the people who leaned from their parents or grandparents, in the people who took it upon themselves to go out and learn about since no one else knew. Trying to distance ourselves from African culture would be ridiculous considering it's still heavy in modern day black American culture. Obviously there's things that are exclusively black American and we are still proud of that. You can be proud of both.
🗣Breathtakingly beautiful analysis/dissection🤟🏿
6:03 work it gurl! 😂😂😂
Amazing job making this video. The editing, how its shot, the acting, and the RESEARCH! Bravo!
My lady, what _is_ the intro song? It's SO GOOD
Okay I sat through 11:34 found out🤭
Update: I found the producer but not this song in particular😭
Its the producer’s best but my friend Josiah wrote and rapped the lyrics for me! It’s original for this show!
The best episode of Everybody hates Chris 😂😂 your channel is pure gold ✨
Commenting for algorithm ❤
I loved this video. I need more church hats
wooow what a video!! you're really talented! ii went to church on easter sunday with family to experience my people (i'm not a christian anymore but black church culture is truly special) and ngl i was a bit let down by the easter attire haha. i was happy i was sitting near this lady in her 90s, she had a pink suit number and her hat was ON. the church fashion of black women is such a vivid part of my early childhood memories so i enjoyed learning more about its history. thank you!!
also lmaaa when you did the scene imagining somone wearing a hat to the club
You are very entertaining. You have a great video format.
A life time ago for one of my internships before I graduated I transcribed the interviews of local elderly black ppl in a mostly white small town in MO.
W/ all the black ppl I & my white male AA History teacher interviewed there was one white person, a Jewish man that was included.
He talked about how he was able to afford such a nice home and living bc he made a verity of church hats and the local black women would frequent his shop regularly. They (our elders) kept him in business.
If these hats do come back, I don’t do church but I dig the style/aesthetic, I hope it can be centered around a more black economy.
Isn't there something more recent for the reason? You quoted something from the 60s but at the same time showed that plenty of women were marching with church hats on back then. I haven't been to a church in several years now so I actually never noticed if there was a decline but I would think it would be something more simplistic. The younger generations don't dress like older ones so it might just be the perception that it's for old people because back in the 2000s and early 2010s I never saw women my age wearing those.
I think she means the 60's is where it began. Obviously a tradition won't just stop. It just becomes less apparent.
My oldest daughters are 9 & 7 and I'm showing them this! Love it! Keep up the great work 🎉
Great video love the dissection into black style
