Great tutorial. Wasn't aware of that "test mode" ability. Worked great though and was able to ensure that voltage was still getting to my fan and that the fuse was not blown because of it being seized! Thank you!
Fantastic video. I have a 2014 Titan. On a hot day I’m having issues with warm AC. Nisan stopped putting these fan in Titans. I have the fan mounting home for a fan just no fan. Would I be able to install a fan from a older year?
Awesome. Im having hot air blow about 80% of the time in my 2010 titan. Cant seem to find an obvious reason. Coolant reads ok if i checked it right. Compressor runs when ac is on.
Did your condenser not come on? Mine powered on in test mode, but doesn't in normal every day use. It used to, but just stopped today on the hottest day of the year and the engine started to heat up into the H range. I looked at that green fuse and it looks fine. I am not sure what else to check. Ideas?
Bumped into your video on Titan / 2008 Armada condenser fan on board diagnostic test. I ran the test and the fan turned on. WOW, you just saved me a ton of money , thank you, thank you ! However, the fan does not turn on under normal operating conditions. A freon leak was found and fix so now the system is recharged and filled properly. I put a thermometer in a cabin vent and while driving temp goes down to 42°, when stopped in climbs to 56°. What do I check for next and how do I do that. Thanks, please save me more money....
Big give away, it's your AC condenser fan. When your cabin air temps fluctuate when you drive and park, it's the fan. The AC condenser fan on these vehicles are undersized. When you drive. 42 degrees = lots of natural airflow = cool condenser = happy When you park. 56 degrees = struggling AC fan = hot condenser = mad
Thanks for the great information! I have my 2010 Titan SE but I don’t know if my model comes with a condenser fan, I looked at it and there is no fan. I bought this car a year ago and I don’t know if the previous owner took it away A/C doesn’t work at all! I haven’t take it to any mechanic because I barely use it, but if missing the fan I can just buy it give it a try. What do you suggest?
Hey Aaron, awesome video. You give me hope! I'm also confused. Ha. Test went through great, condenser fan turned on all 3 times. AC blows cold, pressures test fine. However even while redlining in coolant temperature sensor, the fan won't activate. Resistor maybe?
My fan comes on at 212 but is it supposed to come on immediately when you turn the a/c on? On other vehicles, I know that's the case but mine doesn't come on when you turn the a/c on.
Would a bad condenser fan cause the engine temperature to rise? At idle, during the summer months, a/c starts blowing warmer air and engine temperature rises. Thanks.

Hello Aron My Condenser fan is not coming on when running or at a stop. I notice today during waiting at at fast food drive through I did not hear the fan come on. Temperature went up. Ac got warm. The did the test you posted on your video and the fan came on. Is it a temperture sensor sticking? What else can I look at?
Yea I’m having the same problem.I even hooked to wires to a battery charger and inserted into the fan side if the plug and the fan came on. The self diagnostic test shows power to the engine side of the plug.....but I never hear or see the fan running while driving
Hey aaron great video I had a question. My 2006 nissan titan condenser fan comes on with the the keys out of the ignition all of a sudden. It just runs unless I disconnect it or disconnect the battery. Like its weird. I checked relays and fuses. With the truck off it just comes on and runs endlessly
Sounds like the IPDM to me. If it's the original OEM, they are notorious for malfunctioning. Lots of electrical gremlins come from this one box. The fan relay is in there and could be shorting.
Hey Aaron, I don't see a link for the Green fuse you referenced. Do you know part number or have a link? My fan is not working. Have a Freon leak on a good size hose, on right side of engine in the down direction. This is for my 05 Titan. I bought a new replacement fan from Napa just in case. Thanks
sorry about that, here is the link www.amazon.com/Genuine-Nissan-24370-C9900-Connector-Assembly/dp/B00BFE2ENQ did you run the self test? did the fan turn on?
Aaron, I replaced my condenser fan on my 05 Titan and does not come on, yet, on its owe. I did replace my thermostat, water pump and radiator prier to the new condenser fan, install. I had my mechanic hook up his computer to my truck. He noted the hottest temperature reading he recorded was 199 degrees. We also replaced a leaking high pressure A/C line and evacuated and charged A/C system. My mechanic was able to by pass my trucks computer and turn on the new condenser fan. So we know the fan works. Could my issue be that the trucks coolant temp, just is not getting hot enough to turn on the fan? Or that the a.c temp and or pressure has not reached a given temp or pressure for the fan to come on? Thanks!
@@verylargeone yes, that is exacly right, the fan only turns on for 2 reaseons. 1. Engine Coolant temp reaches 217 Degrees Fahrenheit. 2. High side pressures is a/c system reach 225 psi. if either of these conditions are not met, the ecu does not turn on the fan. since your mechanic can turn your fan on, we can assume that the fans wiring, fuse and motor is good, i would recommend running the IDPM self test that is shown in the beginning of this video just to make sure for your self the fan is turning on during the test. Hope this helps!
2013 titans did not come with this fan but i can see a wiring in there. i want to add a fan because the ac is warm at idle during summer months is it as easy as installing a fan? would you know if all the relays and fuses are in there? thanks!
I have one question I have a 14 armada and when I'm driving the ac works great but when I'm in idle the temperature gauge goes up and I have to shut down the ac is this because of the ac condenser fan being faulty? Thank you for your time.
Thought my condenser fan was bad so I bought a new one. Car AC was only getting cold while driving and I noticed the condenser fan was not spinning anymore. Before install I came across this video, ran the test and my condenser fan came on to my shock. What seems to be my issue then if my fan is not bad???
im glad you did the test before you replaced your fan! the pressure in the high side of the a/c system needs to be above 226 psi in order for the ecu to turn on the fan. now that we know that the fan is good, its obvious that the ecu is not commanding the fan on. so i would assume you have a low charge in your a/c system. you need to hook up a manifold gauge set and monitor the low and high side pressures once at idle and once at 2500 rpms. if your low side goes below 25 psi, you are low on charge which be why your a/c fan never comes on. hope this helps
Aaron Hines thank you!! ya I’ve been adding Freon about every couple of weeks because the ac was not cooling at all. I think it’s a small leak somewhere so I added UV dye shots but haven’t been able to see it leak out anywhere...Any thoughts?
I'm dying here. I did your test and the fan came on. Even after running my 13 armada in 90°f for over 10 minutes it does not come on. Bought an ac pro recharge kit but it was reading in the green so did not add any freon. Ac is colder when moving but at idle/park it's blowing Luke warm but still a little cooler than outside. What do I do next? My kids have asthma and this is not good. HELP
my nissan armada condensor fan went out causing my transmission to overheat during traffic and drive thru does that sound about right thats what dealership told me ?
Condenser will come on for one or two reasons. Engine coolant temp is above 217 degrees. Or a/c pressure in high side is above 225 psi. The condenser fan doesn’t do much to cool the transmission fluid.
The AC condenser fan does help with cooling the engine radiator. However, its main job is too cool the AC condenser, NOT the engine radiator or transmission cooler (in the engine radiator). I think you had a cooling fan clutch problem and when the AC condenser died, you had very little airflow to cool both condenser and radiator. In my opinion, the stock AC condenser is too small for these vehicles. It should be larger size fan or two electrical condenser fans. Nissan went the cheap route.
i have access OEM manuals.i found this test a while back when reading up on nissan condenser fan failures. and this test was what Nissan recommends techs do to diag them. im guessing the reason is because most people on forums dont have access to those. i havnt came across any like this but there are a bunch on manual test/reset procedures that can be without a consult scanner, Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning, Idle Air Volume Learning Procedure, Throttle Body closed postion relearn, Clear Self-Learn Procedure, tpms relearn, airbag light reset. and so on.
Aaron Hines wow I guess I have more research to do. Found out my fan is working just fine but I had 2 leaks in my AC line that’s why my truck AC wasn’t cooking properly. Keep up the good videos on the titans definitely helping me a lot.

Hi Aaron, Love your video, and I followed your instructions to a tee. I have a 2013 Armada Platinum 4x4. I could not produce power at the fan using the test light. But the green 'fuse' you show in your video was OK on my rig. The only thing I would say is the green thing you are calling a fuse, is not a fuse. Its a fusible link. There is a fuse, but is further back, a large blade fuse that is 25amp. you can see the big green wires inside the IPDM that lead to this fuse holder. Mine was blown because I had a bunch of snow blow up into the e-fan and it couldn't turn. So the fuse heated up and blew. I don't doubt that the fusible link could also be a problem, but the fuse is a lower amperage and would blow first. The guy that made the following video shows what I'm talking about. th-cam.com/video/te1nF8Wo4YU/w-d-xo.html at about 2:20 into the video.
