    You actually can resolve it with both chords complete and with both tendency tones resolved if you add a fifth voice as a common tone on 5.

    Just arrived at Exercise 12.4 and got a bit of a shock. It asks to use one p.t. one n.t. and 2 suspensions. I assume that means passing tones and neighbouring tones. The only problem is that neither passing tones, neighbouring tones or suspensions have been mentioned in the text at all before this, so I have no idea what and how to do this.

      You will find that information in Appendix C: Non Chord Tones 1 and also in Appendix D: Non-Chord Tones 2. Different instructors like to introduce these at different times.
