I often think about this, and the way i would start to fix the relationship between Bella and Edward is having Edward be 17 and new at being a vampire, that would explain a lot of his awkward behavior, and having Bella be a nerd for supernatural stuff, that investigates the Cullen family as she uncovers the history of the small town, it would give her a personality trait and a reason to be so drawn to Edward that isn't instant love. Idk, I think that would be a more interesting book.

No hes awkward because of his age off birth hes oldest next too Carlisle hes been alone the longest nope thats not the way id like it but hes much stronger and wiser and scared in the books. Perhaps the only part they got right is him leaving Bella for her own good. For her soul. You forget he pushed Bella. He dosnt. In the book he destroys the piano which he hadnt played in years untill she came into his life when Carlisle agrees to change Bella. Hes so scared of destroying her he forgets shes scared off losing him. That she made her choice in book one.

This is not Twilight. This is fanfiction. You do not understand Edward. Everything that makes up Edward and his personality is his age, the era he was from, his experience, his years living with Carlisle, his understanding of the vampire world. Edward cannot be a NEW vampire. Sorry but this is stupid.
And a next thing. You cant "investigate" twilight vampires. They’re too OP. Theyll see, hear, and smell you before you even get close. Bella was only lucky Jacob was a simp and his destiny was to become a werewolf and stand against the Cullens. Next

Am I the only one who prefers to completely ignore the Edwella romance and focuses solely on the vampire lore? That's perhaps why I've read the novels only once, but have enjoyed The Official Illustrated Guide many times over. I'd much prefer a novel series exploring the history of the vampires. Who was the first vampire? Do they still exist? _That's_ what I'm personally interested in, not the teenage romance.

In a sentence, the main problem with Twilight is that it’s pretending Bella is something that she’s not.
Bella is framed as quirky, generic everygirl when her behaviour is selfish, narcissistic, impulsive, reckless and self-destructive. She isn’t just an ignorant teenage girl who makes mistakes, the problems with her character go deeper than that, but the story never acknowledges it. It treats her like she is a helpless victim of circumstances beyond her control when we can clearly see that’s not who she is.
So one possible fix is to make her more likeable and relatable, for sure… but that’s not nearly the most interesting one. The interesting angle is to understand how twisted a character she is and play into it. Emphasise her personality flaws, embrace the destructive nature of herself and ultimately make the story about the reader trying to understand who the real monster here is. You could do something genuinely Shakespearean here with a ravenous wolf who barely controls his rage and a serial killer with a heart of ice yet among them, it’s the outwardly innocent girl who is the most monstrous one of all. Make their love story engaging because we understand why they shouldn’t be together but because they are terrible people in their own ways, they can’t help themselves but indulge the vanity of their obsession with one another.
And even if you wanted to circle around for a redemption arc for either of them where one recognises they can’t go on like this, either or, that could work as a resolution to the story too. But generic good girl and generic good vampire get everything they ever wanted? That was just never going to work… except as the wish fulfilment that the series was from the start, but I guess that’s why it’s such a missed opportunity lol.

I believe the author has creative ideas of a depth that are above what is deemed acceptable by her religious paradigm and they all come out in her side characters, which are numerous and almost all more unique and complicated than either Bella or Edward. She feels safe within the limited sphere of the chaste love story and needs to keep it there. But she needed an outlet for these repressed ideas given life by side characters, and unconciously, they make her apprehensive on some level to this day. Otherwise, we would have other books with their stories. The only side character story she ever did (Bree Tanner?) was another human girl no one cared about. Wasted effort.
I also feel the Jacob chapter in breaking dawn showed she could write expanded perspectives well but chose not to.

There could have been series for The Shapeshifters and Volturi. More depth could have been highlighted on “the children of the moon” aka The True Werewolves. If Twilight was rebooted as a series then they would b able to expand and explore all the characters and the world. Maybe even show more creatures within the universe, just like the Vampire Diaries franchise, especially with the spin off Legacies. That a hell of a lot more creatures The main 3, vampires, witches, and werewolves. We’re getting far too common. That I would love to see and watch. I’ve even said before that because of the graphics within Beautiful Creatures and Warm Bodies, makes me think they’re in the same universe. 2013 The Host included.

I do understand where you're coming from tbh, eventhough I'm a twilight fan I do agree with what you're saying. I wouldn't go as far as to say it was boring, I particularly enjoyed the twilight movies (I can't keep my focus on books having adhd and all) I prefer movie adaptations.
However, you have to bare in mind that all the books apart from Midnight Sun, The short 2nd life of Bree Tanner and the other book called Life and Death... is based on Bella's perspective so where seeing the story play out through Bella's eyes hence why the story is focused so much on the relationship between Bella and Edward, also this is why the movies follows suit and why the narration is Bella. Midnight Sun is told through Edwards perspective so I'm sure if Midnight Sun was transferred to the silver screen we would most likely see more a lot of the Cullens lives and Edwards probably switching from past to present in Edwards lifetime, we wouldn't see too much of Bella nor too much of Bella and Edward together cuz story would be more focused on Edwards experience as a vampire, his lust for Bella's blood, blood lust control struggles, his thoughts, him hearing other people thoughts, more of his interactions with the Denali clan and the Cullens events of twilight we've not seen in the original twilight movie... they could even add some of the deleted scenes. Now if the movies was say told through Carlisle's perspective, Alice's perspective or even Aro's perspective we would've got a totally different take on twilight universe. Now the book titled Short & 2nd life of Bree Tanner is through the human turned new born vampire Bree Tanner's perspective including some events from Twilight Saga: Eclipse, now if they made a movie adaptation of that book you would see extra events of Victoria & Reily Beers and some scenes with the Voltori some scenes with the Wolves and some extra scenes involving the Cullans but it would mostly focus on Bree Tanner and there wouldn't be much of a movie cuz Bree Tanner is not the focus of Twilight her life was short cuz she was so young and turned into a vamp then killed by Felix shortly after.... so what would be the point in making a movie about her?

    • @GiftOfDaGab_91

So, a bit of twilight education if you will.... I totally forgot but, the book titled "Life & death reimagined" is basically a retell of the original twilight books Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking dawn but all the characters are gender swapped, apparently people are saying it's better than the main twilight books... again, I can't read books so yeah the idea of a gender swap is fascinating

Twilight is a romance though. I feel as if you don't understand what the romance genre is so you're expecting more of it than you should. Everything focuses on Bella and Edward because that is what romance stories do, they focus on the romantic couple. It's not a fantasy with romantic elements, it's a romance FIRST with fantastical elements. If you're not a romance fan, it would seem like you're being suffocated with their constant pining, but that's actually the point. 😆

Not a fan of Twlight, as my cousins literally forced me to watch all the movies that and my classmates back then were the only reason I even knew this franchise existed. I didn't even read the books.
However, while I am not an expert I would've loved to see the shifters question Imprinting and actively try to find ways out of it, not just roll over an accept it. Because I don't care how you paint it, one of them imprinting on a two year old is wrong and as far as I am concern child grooming. And then there is poor Leah, like she got screwed by it. Somehow she was the bad guy for feeling betrayed?! How?! Why?! Her boyfriend (fiance?) left her for her cousin and didn't even give a valid reason plus COUSIN, of course she would be pissed off. I guess you could argue Emily got half her face clawed off but, then that's a relationship based on domestic abuse? Also, isn't the wolf supposed to be whatever the imprint wants? Because if so Emily screwed her cousin over. And just the whole concept of it rubbed me the wrong way. Let's not even touch on the fact that Jacob imprinted on a hybrid, which aren't they supposed to be natural enemies of vampires?! How is it even possible he imprinted on a HALF VAMPIRE?! From what little I got from the movies, that felt like a slap to the character, a poorly done consolation price because Bella just had to end with Edward and she had to have her cake and eat. She got with Edward and got to keep Jacob in her life. One thing I think would also help make Twilight better is to either fix imprinting or get rid of it. Again, I only saw the movies, maybe something else is said, done or shown in the books but just from the movies alone Imprinting is just wrong with capital letters, underlined and bold

It transforms naturally but sure let's just keep this train going for another billion years. They screwed up with the CGI baby too so it just adds salt to the wound. She was supposed to be a supernatural kid anyway in many ways but yeah I get where toire coming from truly. Like, we don't have to analyse everything. (It's especially funny since we consider Americans as just plain traitors, literally, and you slag off the team who weren't committing treason? I 100% agree when you say it has a lot of potential. I don't want to say anything negative about it nor the author because books are a deeply personal experience. But what I will say is that it has a lot of potential to explore so many more interesting stories. Like, imagine a book about the life of Carlisle, exploring the past. Imagine Jasper and Alice surviving and making their way to the Cullen family. I feel like the second life of Bree Tanner briefly explored this. Imagine a dangerous political drama about the volturi set in the 1600's full of excitement and betrayal. I believe Stepheny Meyer is really intelligent to come up with all of this, and her world building skills are incredible. I think Edward and Bella really, really explored a powerful love. I like his power to project himself into peoples minds not just read them. I would highly encourage Stepheny to switch up her approach a little bit, and write more books about more characters, exploring this world she created. I only have positive things to say about books, because they are a deeply personal experience. For me, a book I've read is more than just a book I've read... It's a memory. And experience within and of itself. Authors are very brave to put themselves out there, and readers make their own experiences. So more books means more experiences. More characters, more stories told, new perspectives, and even new lore and backstories. Twilight is very original and certainly has the potential to be something really great if not already.

I feel what you are saying, but none of what you said in the second section, "Eclipse of secondary characters" fit in Twilight. As Twilight is all about Bella and Edward. the Triangle between them and Jacob was not resolved very well, so maybe fix this. But if you want a side story of Alice and James, this would be a spin off, along with The Volturie. Just like it was done in Vampire Diaries, spin off Originals and then Legacies.
back to the triangle, Bella uses Jacob to return back to humanity, she is love broken when Edward left. But it is on an extreme level. the same with Edwards over bearing demeanor towards Bella. extreme. But when you look at anyone going through a first love break up, they all go through an extreme period. Some end fine, while others go through what Bella went through, withdrawal, and many lead to death.
But She never loved Jacob, so at best, Jacob is stuck in the friend zone. Many guys get stuck here, watching the girl they are infatuated by, hang out with someone else, and all they dream about is, if they get a chance to be her love interest, what would they do. and it happened to Jacob,
So we are in the Fix it stage. back to the Vampire Diaries, This series is 9+ seasons long. So it has plenty of time to look into every characters back story, and what happens before and after each transformation. While in Twilight, it is just 4 books, which created 5 shows a couple of hours each. you do not have the time to do a full character scenario for each character. They did a good job introducing each character with the fix movie time allowed. So I push you back to going back to making spin offs and stop trying to fit everything into Twilight, which is all about Bellas Life story leading her into being a vampire

we already know that other storylines in Twilight are much more interesting than Bella and Edward's, maybe the twilight series will focus on them instead of the love story between this couple.

Carlisle Cullens technically didn't join the Voltaire. He did live with the Voltaire for a few decades, but was never an official member of their coven or a member of the Voltaire guard. you have to remember that this was a story that grew from a dream that Meyers had one night and felt she had to fill it out, to help it grow. Then she marketed it to teen girls, who would be the only group of people who be interested in this kind of drama. The only problem with your ideas is that they have nothing to do with the central theme of the stories. That theme is that an awkward teen girl falls in love with a hot guy. He leaves her out of love and concern for her. She begins to mend her heart by hanging around another hot guy. The first guy returns, now she doesn't know who to love, but there's plenty of danger that going to befall people she cares about because of her, you know, since it's all about her and her feelings. She finally figures who she really loves, and the danger is averted only for something else to pop up and be dangerous, which is all a part of life. It's all teen girl drama. I think you're ideas are really good, and as a story-teller myself, I like them, but they just aren't all that relevant to how a teen girl will decide who she loves the most. Honestly, I think you're ideas would SERIOUSLY improve Twilight, again, they just aren't right for the theme Meyers was going for.

Being a teenage girl is very scary. That's why it's popular, unlike the many erotic stories out there re vampires. People hate Twilight just for being what it is, very simple. Simple stories are allowed to exist but an expanded universe would be nice.

What does religion have to do with anything? Stephanie Myers took a dream she had and turned it into 4 books, 5 movies, a novella about Bree Tanner, etc. I look at it this way: she made money writing those books (not to mention writing “The Host” and THAT became a movie), the books become movies, she gets proceeds from every sale of books as well as a percentage of whatever the movies make based on her books. Everyone makes money so everybody wins. The guy who played Edward - I saw him in the 4th Harry Potter movie. That’s how he made his film debut.

I like the third book because it dug into characters’ back stories. We learned why Rosalie was nasty to Bella & where the Cullens came from. Edward was whiny who made decisions for Bella. Bella was a wet dishrag. Charlie was great but poor guy had a boring codependent daughter. My fave parts of the books were the backstories. Stephanie Meyer had some good moments but ruined them with Bella’s existence

The overprotectiveness I understood, but other bits made zero sense to me, such as Edward acting like she smells horrible, his attitude with being distant while at the same time wanting to be near her, I mean FFS they had apparently graduated high school what seemed like 20 or so times (that framed cap board), so you'd think they'd be use to humans by then especially since they were "vegans" (honestly calling them vegan just sounds dumb as it initially assumes they only eat plants, but later revealed they only eat animals, its like calling a cannibal who use to eat humans a vegan cause they only eat animals now).
I get Bella loves him, but her over reliance on him & his mere presence is definitely obsessive. Then the bit with Jacob, her trying to get out of her depression by attempting to rebound to Jacob (that is what she was doing), then him ditching her like Edward, then forcing this love triangle crap in, it all felt pointless.
Besides the introduction of the Werewolves (don't care that people say they are shape shifters, werewolves are humans that SHAPE SHIFT into wolves - and the fact that they turn when vampires show up, doesnt convince me that they aren't werewolves, ESPECIALLY when we were not shown what werewolves look like or how the hell they differ from them) and the introduction of the Volturi, most of New Moon felt pointless.
For the first film, shoving in loads of extra lore wouldn't help. Will say though, Edward saying "I look disgusting" just because he sparkles, that was beyond cringe. If he used his past deeds where he killed murderers for his reason for seeing himself as a monster instead of sparkles, that would've worked better.
Plus Stephanie could've used something else than simply sparkles to identify Vampires, cause seriously, people do wear glitter. What if Sunlight caused their red eyes to show, even if vegan, and they glowed when exposed to sunlight? THAT would've been an easier identifier and would've made way more sense. Sparkles could easily be explained away as wearing glitter (glitter does reflect light).
Later films after introducing characters to Bella's life could've been further explored, like Game of Thrones explored characters after introducing them. Like imagine if we got scenes where Esme and Carlisle are questioning Edward's decisions, exploring Rosalie's reluctance to accept Bella, Alice's troubled past with James, etc. And all those scenes wouldn't need Bella to be directly apart of them, simply shift focus.
Hell, even scenes involving Carlisle, Charlie, and Harry Clearwater and no one else would've helped show the fragile relationship between vampires and werewolves (again, don't care).
All that instead of the "i can't live without you, my life sucks" (New Moon) movie would've added way more to it an expanded the lore way better. Plus Harry's death would've been more powerful, as it seemed like he was killed by simply being picked up by a vampire who didn't bite him or doing anything serious to him, like he died from simply being touched. And since there was barely any screen time for him, his death was "meh" at best cause we didn't really know him. Its like if Jasper was killed in the first film, can bet that no one would care cause we didn't know him at the time.
And personally, killing James was frankly too quick. Imagine if he had escaped and became a near constant threat, and given his tendencies to draw attention as a vampire, probably would've gotten the Volturi involved and seen much sooner.

Expanded universe? Love it. Like, don't make the wolves or Volturi a subplot but their own distinct series! With their OWN distinct tones! Mystical for the wolves, gangster noir for Volturi. Changing what Twilight is, boy meets girl? Missing the point, it's a romance. Just make EXTRA films and TV series, don't damage the core thing itself. There's a place for chaste romance beside the erotic ones like Anne Rice. All characters are selfish, that's what a character is. Bella and Edward are functional because they fit like a jigsaw. Maybe not ideal, but who is? He isn't Prince Charming, the original complaint about him. I want documentary style TV series about EACH of the Cullens before Bella. Then it turns out each one is narrating in third person about their own public menace. Like a true crime documentary. We can play with genres without damaging what Twilight is. Like, do the Volturi make music? Castles have great acoustics. Is it like death metal with tons of screaming? Do they have siren voices, especially some of the women? Do they have theme parks or rent out villages to raid and maim like some corrupt humans do? Do they own the human legal system? I NEED TO KNOW. But leave Bella and Edward alone, without vanilla most other ice cream is too weird seeming. They are the foil to that universe, it's needed. It's refreshing to read something wholesome with values like self-control (temperance) and spirituality. Anne Rice is fine too. Two poles. Does Alice run a clothes museum? WHERE DO THE CLOTHES GO? Do they wear their old clothes to costume parties, as a JOKE? CONTEXT.
Sleeping is the most human thing in the Twilight universe, so to him it is sweet. Needn't be objectively. Jacob WAS dangerous to Bella, one character is a literal example of how with the face scar. Alice couldn't have seen Jacob losing it on time. I'd love a Willy Wonka style view of Twilight from Alice's changing visions, including Edward's envy when Bella originally married MIKE NEWTON. Oh to hear THAT conversation! Edit: what if Alice saw him later return to Mrs Newton and kidnap her or something? Or her marriage to him was unhappy? WE DON'T KNOW.
