    20:40 You're gonna LOVE that gadget. I call mine Dr. Mu, mystic identifier of unknown values. It'll tell you what caps' values are, resistance values, if a transistor's any good, its orientation by way of NPN or PNP, its beta, and I think it'll even test inductors.

    • @classiccomputers6211
      @classiccomputers6211 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those multi function testers are incredibly handy. They do indeed test inductors, and some meters do MOSFETs and SCRs (not sure on that model). For the 20 or so dollars most of them cost, it's a very very good investment.

    Anyone telling you explanations are nonsense is just jealous that you have the knowledge to repair these. Someone is suffering butt hurt because you are better :).
    Seriously though, I am an engineer, and your explanations often make great sense. You follow things logically, and the results speak for themselves. You get things fixed. That component tester should automatically detect what you plug into it and then test it. Some will do caps, but mostly for diodes and transistors. 123 is the three transistor leads ( so you put the in 1, 2 3) and K and A represent Cathode and Anode of a Diode usually. Should auto detect though on most items

    To explain pole and throw of switches, it's fairly easy to identify. Poles describe the amount of switching assemblies and throw describes the amount of contacts from one end of the limit to the other. So, reading that schematic, you have 3 switches in an assembly with 3 different positions available on at least one of the switches (manual/off/automatic). Therefore you have a triple pole, triple throw switch.

    I really have to thank you for all the videos you guys put out on the pinball machines you fix. I have just been asked to restore an ol Bally Champ EM from '74. Although I am an electronics tech for industrial stamping press controls I have never worked on a pinball machine. The videos you did on the Circus machine has helped me immensely. The only issue I have is getting parts here in Canada. This one needs a lot of TLC as it apparently was overseas since the coin door has a 2 Franc label on the coin door. Again thanks and keep up the good work. I am using your Amazon link to try to help keep the videos rolling.

    I had a similar issue (to that bent IC pin) once with my Atari ST computer. It was incredible, I had owned it for years and it had worked perfectly, then one day it just wouldn't start up. I dismantled it and was amazed to find that a single pin of one of the IC's had straightened itself out (and was therefore not in the socket)! I was disbelieving, it couldn't have always been that way (as it worked great for years), but it looked like the pin had never been bent at all and was perfectly straight! My "guess" (comming much later when I heard about the invention of "memory metal") was wondering if maybe the IC manufactur process had accidently triggered the metal to want to restore its factory shape over time (it was either that or by some miracle it worked for years without one of its chips lol).

    I have an older model of that tester and it's great! Very accurately measures/tests caps, transistors and diodes. I use it to match transistor pairs when replacing the weird dual transistor in Rockola amps. My 480 you helped me with awhile back ... problem was on that board but a bad CPU! Was lucky I snagged a good used one.

    • @robertlipsett2535

      also does resistors scr inductors and gates and fets. there are only 3 inputs but any input with the same number is connected together, this allows spacing to put most components into the tester. good for doing a cap kit. you can test what you removed for your own information but you can also test the component going in to replace it

    Poles are the different sets/stacks of switches. And the "throw" is the number of connections each switch makes.
    I think poles were named that based on some of the usage cases. Like if you have a large motor relay, you'd need to kill at least 2 sets of connections when dealing with 220/240 volts (with a floating neutral wire) or 3-phase stuff, so multiple different circuits.
    And throw is easy to remember since that is the number of ways the switch gets thrown. So a DPDT relay has 2 switch stacks (DP) and makes connections both ways (DT).

    Well, it's nice to see people still appreciate a classic jukebox.
    The digital stuff is so cold. I miss aisles of records and even CDs.
    People still collect this old stuff.
    The music industry shot itself with crappy new releases and overpriced albums. Once in a while, I might get an album CD on sale -- unfortunately, it's at discounters because aside from Barnes&Noble and a very few indie record stores, they've stopped selling much beyond vinyl.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's 50 years after the composer dies, you can record their song for free.. if it's a recording that say Sony paid for though, I don't think they're ever going to lose the rights to it. So basically we'll never be able to play what we want for free.
