Something I learned this year was to stop trying to gift something that fills a hole in their life, but rather an exquisite version of something they use all the time. It's helped me sooo sooo much and will probably help a lot of other people, too.
I am proof of how awesome your channel is. Do I care about interior design? NOPE. Do our lifestyles overlap? DOUBTFUL! If you have a target demo, I’m not in it. But when I saw you had a new video out I was like YEAH, CAROLINE IN THE HOUUUUUSE
@@Caroline_Winkler It’s your comfort being yourself. I recently started out on TH-cam (music stuff) and I’ve been dying to get into more personal stories, vlogging etc. Your channel is a huge source of inspiration and encouragement. It’s just so damn good.
@@Caroline_Winkler hi, Caroline! Just wanted to warn your people that the telegram hoaxsters are misrepresenting you and pretending they are giving gifts in your name! I think you’ve warned us about this! Thanks for being adorable you, and merry Christmas, everybody!
The letter mention made me cry- I’ve done this for so many people over the years and only ever gotten two and each time it was one of the most impactful moments of my life and definitely the best gifts I’ve ever received. We underestimate how special this can be to people, especially in a time of year that’s so fcking hard for many 💛
A friend gave me a letter once, around 8 years ago. No special occasion, but it was a hard time for me even several years after my dad passed. It was something he simply decided to give to people that he really valued. Absolutely nothing fancy about it, he used black paper to make the envelope and some random paper for the letter. No special lettering. But it was heartfelt. Not long or particularly poetic. To this day it is one of the gifts that has meant the most to me. Just thinking of it is comforting
I like to gift my mom pedicures or facials from me. She works late and usually can't get to the nail shop, so for her birthday and stuff I'll do that and she actually says I do a better job than her nail tech! I also have detailed her car, organized her office and prepared her meals for dinner for a week, all as Christmas gifts.
Amazing & very thoughtful!!! In occasion my daughter will pop into my house & she’ll do the dishes…I am always blown away…like how did she know that doing that chore for me would mean so much to me??? 💛
@@skiyogagirl I love that your daughter blesses you that way! Honestly for what you parents give us children, it's such a small thing. And also, my mom is kind of hard to shop for LOL if she wants something she'll just go out and buy it so I love providing a service as opposed to something she may have duplicates of 🤣❤️
I'm so suggestible. Since watching this video I've bought 2 tartan blankets, the glass candlesticks with taper candles and 2 of the board game. Also just ordered 2 tartan table runners 😂
Ok, two things: 1. These are actually some bomb ideas. Will defs be stealing. 2. You are far and beyond my favorite parasocial relationship. Hearing you talk legit sounds like hanging out with a friend, which goes a long way in brightening my day. Have a great holidays and enjoy some time off!
The best gift to myself has been this channel, I re-watch videos all the time. Even though I've done my Christmas shopping already - we do potlucks and Secret Santa since a few years now - I do like the idea of a personal letter as a gift. You only hope to get it so right they'll actually keep it forever 😅
@@Caroline_Winkler yes exactly! It was more of a demand than suggestion from my mom 🥲 but it's worked out great. Pro tip to anyone reading, make sure to switch up who organizes the potluck every year to keep it fun!
I'm grateful for this channel. Your journey with quitting acting and relinquishing a big portion of your identity to make room for the new self is so relatable for me, and it's comforting to know that there are others in their thirties who are still figuring things out but who are flowing with life and finding their way. It gives me hope.
Caroline: Just yell group hugs!! Your family will love it! Me: Got it! *Gets tackled by little bro, gets awkward pat on the head by dad, mom asks if I’m okay, and the dog is packing his bags as we speak* Happy holidays everyone!!! Seriously Caroline, thanks for being you and always bringing a smile and thoughtful conversations to this channel. You are one in a million and I wish you all the best and continued success for 2023❤
Caroline, I stumbled upon your channel last night. I must say, I've never stumbled upon anyone who's more like me until I stumbled upon you. You actually show your personality and bring humanity to TH-cam that sometime gets lost. Thank you. Keep going.
We live in a condo building and got our next door neighbors and friends a christmas ornament that literally said "I wish you lived next door to me" It is now hilarious because they get to explain that the people who live next door got them that ornament. Maybe I just have a weird sense of humor.
Caroline, Your speeches are always great, so keep them coming :-) For years I have asked my daughters to write me letters for my birthday and/or mother's day. It has been great for all of us to express and receive these heartfelt notes. I love that you suggested this. Particularly LOVE the tall candle idea and the Chameleon game. Also, the eucalyptus arrangement you have in the background. Happy Holidays!
aw i hope you try chameleon with your daughters! i bet you guys will love it. and thank you!! every time i think im tired of eucalyptus i fall in love with it again because it lasts so long without wilting. cant resist a low effort plant :)
I have a friend that sends me handwritten cards annually and it's such an incredibly lovely gift to receive! I treasure them deeply. (also, I LOVE your hair in this video! You're almost making me want bangs despite my phobia of them ever since I had ugly short bangs in 7th grade lol)
I hope you send cards back to your friend. We used to do this for years, and finally stopped, because no one ever wrote back. Not even a signed card. (Note: this comment's just a coincidence. My wife and I are doing Xmas cards now and talking about this very thing.)
@@BillPeschel I absolutely do! Just wanted to comment from the receivers perspective, as I think some people might feel awkward sending this type of thing and not be sure if it's wanted you know? It's definitely something I have to remind myself of sometimes.
something I really like to do with parents of younger kids is buy them a gift card to a nicer restaurant and tell them it comes with complementary childcare. A zero stress date night is literally priceless
My college aged child gives me a written letter for Christmas every year and I love it for 2 reasons, first is because it’s so meaningful and thoughtful and second, I don’t like people spending money they don’t have …. The letter is better ❤ (sorry for the run on sentence 😅) love your videos 🥳 carry on!
I love going from an Angelica video to a Caroline video and noting the MAJOR increase in confidence, authenticity, personality and all other good things.
As someone who is old enough to be your mum, I have everything I need and so do my mum and husband. I buy myself something nice and tell my husband he can give it to me Xmas morning. I buy him something he has specified and give to him on Xmas morning. Mum and I do 'an experience' together. Ok, there's no surprise factor but we all get something we want (rather than unwanted 'stuff'). Hi from Australia 🇦🇺 xx
LOVE the suggestions, especially the “group hug” one. We celebrated our family Christmas early and there were some stressful moments that were smoothed over with a group hug! It brought on some tears (the good kind!) which led to more hugging. Truly awesome and just what was needed!
This is gonna sound so lame but honestly one of my fav memories of my life was at a music festival and there was a children's performer (Fred Penner for my Canadians out there) doing a show for a bunch of us nostalgic millennials, and in the middle of the show we all did a giant group hug with probably 200 people and it was amazing.
Your style is quite different to mine, but I love your advice and I love your personality! You need to start your own show. I hope a network picks you up some time soon. You embody so much of chic, responsible city living and you're like Friends without the group, lol. Well done and thank you for your videos. Merry Christmas!
Omg “like friends without the friends” I love you But actually this is such a kind comment. I’m so glad you enjoy these videos, your comment and kind words have made my morning
If this was a few decades back, a network would create a sitcom for Caroline to star in. (with a different name since their was a Caroline sitcom in past).
sadly networks tend to be very controlling, they would have to be willing to let her be in control of every creative aspect of the show, i think she's doing alright by being an independent creator.
You are so…fun. I look forward to your facial expressions more than content…sometimes. Your sarcasm and slightly twisted aesthetic fits our family perfectly. You would fit right in! Group hugs and all! Merry Christmas, Safe Travels, and Happy New Year to you and yours.🎄🙏🏻❤️
Finding your TH-cam channel was an early Christmas gift for me, Caroline! You bring a lot of enjoyment to all of us so thank you for the gift that keeps on giving. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season with your family and can't wait for all the fun things you'll be doing in the New Year here!
the tartan blanket reminds me of the one that my parent’s have had forever. now I want my own after seeing these! great ideas here, thank you for another heartfelt/fun video+happy holidays, love!
OMG, part 2 of the room makeover....and on 12/24....a Christmas gift! I can't wait to see the completed space! Caroline, I discovered your channel in August of this year...you've brought this middle-aged, often times overwhelmed Mom, wife, and social worker a lot of inspiration, laughs, and reminiscing of a time in my life when I was single and LOVING it! (I love my current life, too, lol!) Merry Christmas to you and I wish you continued good things in 2023!! XOXO
Merry Christmas! The best gift is time with someone. For my 79 yr old mother this year I bought her velvet hangers and we are going to redo her closets together and hopefully declutter them too. She's one of those women who changes her shoes and purses with every outfit... I've never understood it, LOL! Thanks for all of your great ideas!
Caroline, thank you for your videos. This one literally saved my last-minute trip to friends (I had neither ideas nor energy to figure out the presents). I am so glad I bumped into your channel! You support me a lot without even knowing this ☺
Caroline, GIRL! Was on my way out the door to START Christmas shopping. Now less stressed. Great ideas. Just ordered some of them for family and friends. Some random gifts, a few questionable gifts, a quality time gift ready to go. Stocking stuffers done! I also purchased the Chameleon Game, sounds like fun. Will definely give the group hug. We need it now. THANKS SOOO MUCH. YOU'RE AWESOME!
I watched the first video I found of you randomly the one thing I immediately thought was she’s very talented, she is going places. Please don’t lose yourself in the process, you are a breath of fresh air. Now i am binge watching.
I love giving gifts but I’m not a huge fan of getting them especially rn since I’ve been trying to declutter and only have things I really love and I have a hard time getting rid of things people have given me I rather go and do something with people and maybe get film for my camera so you can take pictures and kee those memories
I stumbled across your channel about 6 months ago and have stuck with you ever since. I enjoy hanging out with you. You don't know me and we will never meet, but you make me feel at home at your apartment, and as a passenger in your car, like we have been friends forever. Keep doing what you're doing. You could be reading the phone book for 20 minutes and you'd make that fun and interesting. Never change, and Merry Christmas 🎄
Great ideas! The letter is the best! I do remember when my Aunt said she loved reading my card and she was so appreciative. The experience is also great because we just don’t spend enough time with those that we love. Thanks Caroline! We sometimes forget and need these reminders.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Chameleon!!! Played it w my girlfriends at every gathering and also gave it as a gift, and she loves it!! Plays it at her family gatherings, and everyone has a laughy time!
The candle gift that I choose this time of year is a 100% beeswax (typically) pIllar. I love that the air quality in the home of my friend or loved one is not polluted by paraffin, which I despise. I think that natural products are the best gifts you can give someone. Good for them and better for the planet. About the Weleda Skin Food... I've tried using it many, many times, but the scent is way too strong and I am allergic to it, sooooo, if you have a scent-sensitive friend, this is not the gift. My picks from this list - not that anyone cares - is a set of non-toxic tapers with a beautiful candle holder or two; a shared experience; and the tartan blankie. FREAKING FINALLY - PART 2 OF THE BEDROOM MAKEOVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!!! I have truly been waiting.
I am so glad I found your channel when it was around 20k subscribers. To see you grow and succeed is fantastic. Your videos always cheer me up and get me in a good mood, so have a great new year's eve!
The past several days I've been a sentimental wreck, in the Greatest way possible. When you talked about Emotional Gifts/Experiences, the Tears were flowing 😭 One of my son's gifts is extremely Special for him, together with a framed handwritten poem by me. The Tears will be Flowing 🌟 Also, I can attest with Caroline, the Tartan Throws - they are Everything & More!! You'll fall in love with the entire website!! Wishing You and Your Fabulous Family the Merriest of Christmas & Happy New Year! Cheers to You, Caroline 🥂
Was totally thinking about you while I was at the Salvation Army today looking at art. Freakiest selection today ~ wish I could add a pic 😂 Love your channel ❤
I second the heartfelt letter. My husband and I have been together since we were young teens and had a period of long distance relationship and a few military deployments. I treasure the letters he sent me then and I asked him to pen me one for Christmas this year ❤
Man!!! You’re so much fun to watch Caroline!!!! I absolutely love hearing you talk! I’m loving you and Jess in the podcast btw! Happy holidays and see you next week 😄
I just wanted to let you know that I adore your content. Although I started coming here for interior design tips, your authenticity and sense of humor are what keep me coming back for every video, regardless of the topic. Like, when you referred to gifts that don't need wrapping as "raw dogging," I started laughing so hard that I nearly spit out my drink! On a side note, the gift ideas were great too... Anyway, have a wonderful holiday!
Tartan plaid....girl....I'm into it! I gifted myself the sweetest tartan coffee mugs and a tartan scarf. I like that you had tartan behind every gift idea too! GROUP HUG everybody!!!!
I swear one of the best presents I’ve ever gotten were these super cheap ornaments with pictures of my dogs my friends printed out - still put them up every year!
This! I feel like gift giving isn’t hard other than the societal pressure for big flashy things (or if someone just sucks and hates everything always lol)- literally just pay attention to what the people you love care about and enjoy
I love a speech 💖 My brother is the group hug starter in my life and it’s seriously the best gift you can give 💖 Thank you for focusing on small businesses!!
This was such a good video😂I had already planned on giving out cards well letters. Even though the Christmas spirit had been knocked out of me by grief I still feel it’s important to tell people what they mean to me while we’re all still here.
These suggestions actually don't suck!! Love each and every one of these items except for the particular scarf colour scheme but the scarf idea wasn't bad. The letter suggestion provoked some thought for me too... someone came to mind but I am not there yet to give them something like that. Merry Christmas!!! My favourite were the super tall candles. How frickin elegant. I must get some.
I didn't know I needed those glass candle holders in my life until now, they are gorgeous!. Also, very looking forward to the second part of the makeover video. I had wondered if you'd just forgotten about it.
Finding your channel early this year, then watching it explode has given me a lot of joy. I can’t wait til you have your own line of products 🤞 Merry Christmas 🎁
I think food is always a good gift too. Especially if you make them one of their favorite meals/desserts. Or just a basket full of all their favorite snacks/candies
Have a brother who doesn't drive anymore, so travels by foot everywhere. So I got him a SWISS TECH coat that blocks rain and WIND. Gonna be a long winter and it's a real gift. Sister got LED candle set early.
Caroline, Let this comment stand as my holiday greeting to you: Best Wishes for the Winter Solstice as well as a great New Year in 2023. Your channel is fun and interesting to watch.....so much the better, that you're doing something you enjoy with room to evolve and grow along the way. Happy Holidays.
I'm so happy to have found your channel. Definitely first joined for your awesome design tips and humour, but 100% staying for your honestly, self awareness and overbearing eye brows. I could sit and listen to your speeches all day. Thanks for these tips. I actually have a couple of those little glass candle holders - they are pure joy!! And i do the lip thing with the same lotion too! Best moisturiser for lips ever - although i look half dead when i first put it on, with those damn white lips.
I appreciate you 😄 So relatable, and I had a long career in entertainment that I transitioned out of and appreciate hearing your journey out of theatre and comedy to have created this interior design and vlogging world of your own. Thanks for sharing your creativity, humour and vulnerability with us!!
No way, but I have those tall candle sticks… All I can think of is how easily they would tip over and burn down my house!! the best gifts I’ve ever received are their heartfelt cards. My son has written me… Thanks for bringing this up, Paige!
I want to gift solely quality time/experiences unless I've heard something they actually do want/need. If I don't have a clue I go for things that eventually is used up and doesn't clutter. So candles, skincare, food/snacks is perfect for that. You're so right the pressure about gift giving is huge! We imagine this MOUNTAIN of gifts under the tree every year but I really wish the norm would be a few thought trough, slightly more expensive and good quality :) So that's what I'm aiming for. Gift cards feels boring but I think it's great! I rather want someone to spend a little extra on themselves and me being able to pitch in. Also I'm probably going to send a handwritten letter and some candy to a long distance friend for christmas :)
08:45 I have the same cream. It's legit a great cream, especially for very dry skin like mine. Before heading out I would also use it on my face and not feel the cold air that much (it sort of acts like a barrier). Try it!
Re: A little bit hurtful gifts. My dad hates mint and he has hated mint my entire life, and I knew this. My immediate family knew this. The extended family somehow did not. This came out one year around Easter, and all of his gifts from the extended family (and some of the immediate family) that Christmas were mint-themed. It was glorious.
That's perfect. I got my Mother a small bean bag frog as a child (I'm now pushing 50) and she raved about it... it's so cute, how thoughtful... etc. etc... so every year since then for every birthday, mother's day, Christmas... every gift giving occasion she has recieved some sort of frog related gift. This has been going on now for well over 30 years. She hates it... and I know this but she won't tell me out right. Now, she has begun re-gifting me back onr frog item at a time. It's a game... we laugh about it... our family enjoys the "what rediculous frog item did she find this time" aspect of this game. They send me suggestions. It is so much fun.
Something I learned this year was to stop trying to gift something that fills a hole in their life, but rather an exquisite version of something they use all the time. It's helped me sooo sooo much and will probably help a lot of other people, too.

Usually these videos are still cheesy but you genuinely had beautiful and hilariously perfect suggestions. Thank you!!
You are so cool. Love that you say "duh"...takes me back lol. Your facial expressions are hilarious 😂
Caroline, thank you for your videos. This one literally saved my last-minute trip to friends (I had neither ideas nor energy to figure out the presents). I am so glad I bumped into your channel! You support me a lot without even knowing this ☺
You are a hoot! Now that I have watched you the rest of my Saturday may begin! One more thing, I love group hugs! They are the best and so much fun!
YOU'RE AWESOME!
doh! glad this video caught you just in time. "questionable gifts" make me think you did it right
I watched the first video I found of you randomly the one thing I immediately thought was she’s very talented, she is going places. Please don’t lose yourself in the process, you are a breath of fresh air. Now i am binge watching.
Love the thought and time you put into this. It’s a true gift in itself. Thanks.
Haha for some reason the pointing with the pencil and speech in the end cracked me up. Love everything you do!
Yay!!! Guest bedroom makeover wrap up!!! I'm so excited!!! Caroline giving us all the present we all wanted for the holidays!
The things I’ve gotten from friends that I’ve kept for over a decade r always heart felt letters
I love giving gifts but I’m not a huge fan of getting them especially rn since I’ve been trying to declutter and only have things I really love and I have a hard time getting rid of things people have given me I rather go and do something with people and maybe get film for my camera so you can take pictures and kee those memories
Even just brunch
I love gift cards that’s a top tier gift if you somewhere you like to shop or eat at
I stumbled across your channel about 6 months ago and have stuck with you ever since.
Freakiest selection today ~ wish I could add a pic 😂
Love your channel ❤
OMG the background jazz is just stunning I'm having trouble concentrating on your cuteness!
Giiirrrll! Been using Weleda for YEARS! As an esthetician, I cannot tell you how many people I have recommended that to! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 Spot on, sis!
Happy holidays and see you next week 😄
ahhh! im so glad you're liking the pod! we're having a jolly old time. so glad you listened ❤
Anyway, have a wonderful holiday!
this is my favorite thing to read. im so happy you're liking the videos. and raw dogging. thanks for such sweet words, and happy holiday!!
We love group hugs in our family! Super cute when the 3 year old initiates.
Tartan plaid....girl....I'm into it! I gifted myself the sweetest tartan coffee mugs and a tartan scarf. I like that you had tartan behind every gift idea too! GROUP HUG everybody!!!!
Weleda is absolutely the best product their rose face cream is amazing as well!
I really needed the group hug advice/permission at my grandpas celebration of life with my whole family this month. BEST ADVICE. Loooooove it so much.
Love the board game idea Caroline. As an avid gamer, I one hundred percent agree with this.
I swear one of the best presents I’ve ever gotten were these super cheap ornaments with pictures of my dogs my friends printed out - still put them up every year!
This! I feel like gift giving isn’t hard other than the societal pressure for big flashy things (or if someone just sucks and hates everything always lol)- literally just pay attention to what the people you love care about and enjoy
that is such a good gift. is it like an individual ornament per dog portrait?
I actually just have one dog - it’s multiple shots of him they printed from the photos I’ve sent them 😅
Adorable
This is the best gift guide I’ve ever seen. I think the group hug idea is going to change my life so thank you for that!
The "look at you, getting married and shit" candle thing was so funny. I love you.
I love a speech 💖
My brother is the group hug starter in my life and it’s seriously the best gift you can give 💖
Thank you for focusing on small businesses!!
Omg sooo excited about the guest bedroom part 2 vid!! The months of anticipationnnnn
This was such a good video😂I had already planned on giving out cards well letters. Even though the Christmas spirit had been knocked out of me by grief I still feel it’s important to tell people what they mean to me while we’re all still here.
People you love but don't really know how to talk to 😂🤣 yesss. Feeling this!!
Yay…can’t wait to see the big bedroom reveal! Wishing you and your family a blessed Christmas!❤🎄
I like your speeches! Merry Christmas and Best Wishes in the New Year!
I had wondered if you'd just forgotten about it.
rightttt im covettng them hard
Finding your channel early this year, then watching it explode has given me a lot of joy. I can’t wait til you have your own line of products 🤞 Merry Christmas 🎁
I think food is always a good gift too. Especially if you make them one of their favorite meals/desserts. Or just a basket full of all their favorite snacks/candies
GIRL this was so good. I'm going to incorporate the letter and group hug into my life. I legit got choked up when you mentioned it.
uk girlies - dunedin cashmere (not guaranteed xmas delivery) does the same tartan blankets for a bit cheaper :))
Happy Holidays.
the sweetest, thank you! happy holidays to you too!! thanks for such a warm note ❤
Definitely doing group hugs at both family gatherings this year. We're huggy people already and I reckon it will fly really well
Sharing your channel as an experience and emotion gift
Thanks for the great ideas! Gifts for dads are the hardest...but I think giving experience is the key here, too :)
The letter thing is an excellent idea. I wrote a letter like that to my aunt almost 20 years ago. She still has the letter.
Love the heart felt letter!❤
❤️❤️worth a try! Especially on tough relationships
I bought that tartan blanket - from that exact place! Love it! (oh and the Weleda too!)
i would like 100% of these gifts. but i like all gifts because someone took the time to think of me. esp food/wine gifts.
happy holidays Caroline!!
Your channel is one of the best discoveries I’ve made this year! I hope YOU have the happiest holiday too!!
I started using the weleda cream as a lip balm after your recommendation in a vlog, and it really has saved my lips this winter!
