@@brettlarch8050I like how one thing Shadow has been reaffirmed on both in the games and this movie is that even though Maria has passed on, Shadow is never without her because she stays in his heart.

You could also especially see during the scene of them running tests on him that it clearly hurts his feelings or gets to him to.
I think alot of that has to do with the fact that she's a child. At such a young age, they're more open and caring to other people. It makes sense the adults would fear shadow, they know nothing about him.
Shadow and Maria‘s friendship, whether it’s in the Sonic video games or in this movie, that’s a friendship filled with true love (Who says true love has to be romantic? lol). Upon re-watching, this is still one of the most adorable scenes I've ever seen in a movie. Less than 6 minutes of screen time was enough to make me adore their relationship and get emotionally invested even though i knew what was coming later. Great acting, and great animation too.

4:14 gave me goosebumps when watching this in the cinema. As much as the soundtrack isn't a favorite overall, the "Shadow and Maria" theme is a real highlight.
This was so heartwarming. Maria and Shadow’s bonding (starting with the bunny drawing) just lifted my heart. Both of them were drawn to each other and cared for one another. It broke my heart when watching Maria’s death scene.
1:23. The fact that Shadow, stone-faced, perpetual frowner Shadow actually smiled, even if just a little bit, thanks Maria's display of kindness makes her loss hurt so much more.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Can we take a moment to appreciate Alyla Browne's performace as Maria, along with anyone in production who helped get one of the most treasured characters in the franchise right for the live action movie adaptation of Shadow's origin story?
I wish they gave Maria more background (like they did in the game's continuity) then just her encounter with Shadow. BUT they clearly made up that flaw by showing a deep development of emotional bonds between Shadow and Maria.
Personally, I think something might’ve happened to Maria’s parents to warrant their daughter moving into a secret government base with grandfather, which may be connected to Ivo being an orphan.
Until one fateful day, as they were escaping the facility because they were gonna take Shadow away. An explosion occurred and Maria was killed in the ensuing chaos.
@ same for me. But much far. I would know pain, loss, sadness and hatred if I lost my families and friends. I’ll vow revenge to those who took them from me.
“You’re my friend, and you can do or be anything you want. Not because of your powers, but because of who you are.” Gosh, I love that line! Shadow is so used to being what he was built for in the games. But here, Maria is telling him he gets *choose* who to be.
This scene is perfect! It gets the bond Shadow had with Maria since she was like a sister to him, and she was the only one who treated him like a normal person. This also shows us that before all that chaos in the Arl, Shadow was all smiles and playfulness

Here though they're able to expand upon Shadows relationship with Maria and it helps make what happens next feel even more powerful than it did in the games because you can truly see just how much pain Shadow is really going through.
This shows how much Maria affected Shadow. She was the only good thing he had and it was taken from him 😢
john wick and his puppy
The first human to treat him with kindness and not be afraid of him. Maria didn't see Shadow as a test subject or an alien but as her friend.
@@cierandelle498
Yeah like how Rosie treated Balto with kindness.
The Friendship between Shadow and Maria is even more emotional then in the Game. I'm glad that i got the chance to see this again on the screen.
I love so much this moment 0:58
we're in a dark lab we find a strange creature floating in a sealed chamber, and what do we do? do we run in fear that it might bust out of the chamber and chase us? do we ask it what it is and why it's here? Nope, we draw a silly face.🤪
Beautiful music but heart breaking.💔😥
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Upon re-watching, this is still one of the most adorable scenes I've ever seen in a movie. Less than 6 minutes of screen time was enough to make me adore their relationship and get emotionally invested even though i knew what was coming later. Great acting, and great animation too.
Maria being a 70’s kid is quite a refreshing change from just being a kid from the 1950’s
Maria looks cute and seeing her and Shadow together is wholesome and lifts my heart!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Hot Take.
But this is the most interesting adaptation of Shadow & Maria's relationship.
Agreed, wholeheartedly. It's sweet, genuine, tragic and funny. Pretty much everything it needs to be.
0:34
Shadow: 😡
Maria: 😠
when my cat refuses me petting it
Absolute favorite moment with them. She pushed right back, teased him, and basically said without words, "You wanna try that again? How about hi this time?" No fear, all love, and wide streak of mischief.
2:30 biolizard cameo appearance
I knew that alien lizard monster looked familiar
Mario movie: "This is the perfect place to put Toadsworth, but we put a generic Toad with glasses instead."
Sonic movie: "We had to remove Biolizard from the plot but we still managed to put it somewhere else."
Oh my gosh. I never noticed that.
Yo no way, I've just noticed that too, I thought it was just some old kaiju movie footage but no. That's an awesome Easter egg
biolizard didn't exist in movie.
1:56 I love how even though he's awkward with the dancing and doesn't really know what he's doing, it's still a cute scene between him and Maria ❤
We all need someone like that.
The way they showed the friendship between these 2 felt so natural and just right. All the more reason to feel bad for them both 😭
0:37 I love how she mocks his scowl here
1:23 The song is called "End Of The Line" by The Traveling Wilburys. I wrote this in case I forget.
Thank you
And even though it did have some 70s vibes in it, it actually came out in 1989. Not 1974
I get it's uplfting but personally I don't think it fits the vibe of the scene.
4:14 gave me goosebumps when watching this in the cinema. As much as the soundtrack isn't a favorite overall, the "Shadow and Maria" theme is a real highlight.
It’s amazing that Shadow and Maria have a strong bond
This entire interaction is just:
Shadow: "Who are you?"
Maria: "You look dumb."
Shadow: "I'm not dumb."
Maria: "Wanna be friends?"
Shadow: "Ok."
Good Grief.
These scenes were my favourite part of the whole movie. I smiled the whole time and tried not to cry. Maria and Shadow put a smile on my face.
1:13 I almost cried when I seen shadow smile!!❤️❤️
🦔🖤❤️🖤❤️
They handle Maria’s relationship with Shadow way better than in the games.
Disagree
Agree
I think Shadow Generations and Dark Beginnings did a great job at expanding upon their relationship.
Not really, we just don't see them very much before the Ark disaster
But why did she get killed at the scene when the ship exploded
2:31 I love how they sneak in the Biolizard reference
...whoah, I never caught that. That's amazing 😂
Can’t believe I missed it the first time 😅
This was so heartwarming. Maria and Shadow’s bonding (starting with the bunny drawing) just lifted my heart. Both of them were drawn to each other and cared for one another. It broke my heart when watching Maria’s death scene.
“…Protect and watch over them, like a shadow.”
"I don't know what I will do without you" that line makes me feel shadow pain
1:23.
The fact that Shadow, stone-faced, perpetual frowner Shadow actually smiled, even if just a little bit, thanks Maria's display of kindness makes her loss hurt so much more.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
MARIA’S VOICE IS SO BEAUTIFUL I’M GONNA CRY🥹🥹🥹
“Idk what I’d do without you” I’m not crying you are!
@@lightyearpig12 This could be talked about in Sonic 4.
What other background of Maria has been omitted other than her being a sick girl that need to cells from an "ultimate life form"?
0:27 "Who dares to interrupt my NAP?"
😂
That’s me sometimes
This is my favorite scene of when Maria meets Shadow for the first time!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
God shadow looks so good. His hair/mane, his colors, his eyes, everything. Cgi department did an amazing job
This is my personal favorite moment from the movie; it makes me smile everyone I see it.😊
You mean "everytime"?

@@Bola0cho dub
It's one of my favorites, too. It's just so deep and heartwarming.
Beat this, Frozen 3! Oh, that's right; you CAN'T!
I always find it interesting that Maria is the only Robotnik not played by Jim Carrey 😂
...what if she was? 🤣
Because Maria is a teenage kid girl.
@@traydaniel0403 Would still be hella funny if Carrey somehow pulled it off.
Ah nah bro now i cant unsee it 😂
This was Shadow’s happy days
Until one fateful day, as they were escaping the facility because they were gonna take Shadow away. An explosion occurred and Maria was killed in the ensuing chaos.
@ Maria was the source of Shadow’s happiness.
But now she’s gone, all he felt is anger and hatred for humans
@@nintendorakyamato1859 Maria was Shadow’s one true family. I feel like him some days. I would only know pain and loss if my family was taken from me.
@ same for me.
But much far. I would know pain, loss, sadness and hatred if I lost my families and friends.
I’ll vow revenge to those who took them from me.
“You’re my friend, and you can do or be anything you want. Not because of your powers, but because of who you are.”
Gosh, I love that line! Shadow is so used to being what he was built for in the games. But here, Maria is telling him he gets *choose* who to be.
THIS IS MY FAVOURITE PART BECAUSE SHADOW AND MARIA ARE SO ADORABLE AND CUTE BUT WHEN MARIA DIED I WAS LIKE 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Same
Now imagine how Shadow felt.
This scene is perfect! It gets the bond Shadow had with Maria since she was like a sister to him, and she was the only one who treated him like a normal person. This also shows us that before all that chaos in the Arl, Shadow was all smiles and playfulness
This is so fkn cute my heart cant stand it, like at 1:36, or at 0:35 he looks so upset, because everyone is just treating him like an experiment, the moment Maria sneaks in at 1:44 he immediately bolts it cus he wants to be a kid and have fun. THEYRE SO CUTE AHHHHH, he reminds me sm of my nephew my heart cant take the cuteness
I love how they included Maria as just an innocent kid who loves playing with her friend, I didn't think they would go for it, but I'm glad they did. She was key for Shadow's character
I also like how they made this version of Shadow have some humility and emotion to him as he always seen as quiet and reserved. And with how the only reason he became friends with Maria all the more was because she was the only one in the lab to treat him like an actual person since she didn't make him feel insecure and angst about himself as almost everyone had seen him as "alien experiment" a "threat" or a "freak." You could also especially see during the scene of them running tests on him that it clearly hurts his feelings or gets to him to.I also like how they made this version of Shadow have some humility and emotion to him as he always seen as quiet and reserved. Tbh I always remember Maria as Shadow's only friend. The movie abandons the whole part of them being only in space and have never set foot on Earth tho. Still its not a bad change
We’re killing a fourth film with this one 🔥🔥🔥
0:56 The whole audience was in awe when I went to watch it. I'll never forget that experience
That scene feel like a extrovert meeting a introvert, the perfect friendship somehow
Maria and shadow being together is so beautiful, I love it! 😍🥹
Maria is so sweet
Not just sweet, Maria is also cute.🥰🤗
Shadow and Maria, I’ve bet they made space movies like those at NASA.
It was the NASA Channel on TV, but now it’s on the app called NASA plus.
20 years of shadow in media: "I don't care, hes an edgelord"
5 minutes of shadow in this movie: "I'm so sorry I didn't care before, Shadow"
I never comment but Maria had so much egg man moxie and character traits it’s dope to see
There are two Godzilla references, this is already peak enough!
this was the scene that almost made me cry in the theaters!!!
They were so adorable. It took so much time for him to feel like home ❤
1:47, This reminded me of Penny and Bolt's "zoom-zoom." ❤☺

Oh I like Bolt it's one of my favorite movies and Bolt and Penny are awesome characters they should've gotten more to them.
2:31 is that the Biolizard?
It is and I can't believe I missed that 😂

You walk into your mystery, you step inside and hold on for dear life.
The lyrics of the song they choose for Maria and Shadow's backstory fits amazingly!
Man this is too good and pure. And it hurts so much.
Maria was the only human that was friendly to Shadow, it was heartwarming that relationship. And it was heartbreaking what happened to her, even tho it was predictable.

I loved watching this! In the games Maria was unable to go to earth due to her condition. But here in the movie we finally get to see her on the green grass where the game version of her could not. 2:50
This movie actually looks pretty good
You mean you haven’t seen it once??????? 😱
get ur butt to the cinema if the movie's playing in your country, I promise you'll love it.

Thank you for sharing the most heartwarming part of this movie!
0:36 I love the teasing little serious face Maria makes to Shadow 😂
1:46 Really Teddy bear 🧸
That was funny, 1:47 but Shadow has cute smile when he’s moving Maria on her roller skates. 🛼
I love the last 30 minutes of nonstop action but this 5 minute scene of Shadows backstory is easily my favorite part of the movie
Same. I loved the movie, but I wished we got to see more of shadow and Maria flashbacks. This was very sweet. It made me tear up a little. I think these movies have done a great job with its humor but also with its very touching and heartfelt moments too.
They were like brother and sister 😢

Not the "best" imo but my favourite movie because of Sonic related nostalgia and hyperfixation

Wreck-It Ralph - “If that little kid likes me, how bad can I be”

This is so sweet and love how Maria treats Shadow like her friend instead of how the scientists yteat him. I love that she told him he can be who or whatever he wants to be in his heart and he’s her friend and not what others think of him
3:44 oh fuck. The one time shadow gave me cute aggression. Why is he adorable in this film let alone this one scene?
This scene hits hard, because Shadow lost the one person who made him happy..

I never knew that I needed to see a montage of Shadow and Maria, but I’m glad we got one. They did such a great job handling this whole backstory.
