from what i understand is that their teaser blew up on tiktok and people thought they sounded good so suddenly tons of people (that were previously pretty unbothered) are tuning in for their debut

I love how their video is giving back room vibes and tbh as a Korean I don’t rly GET newjeans vibes but I can see how a lot of ppl do cuz of the slick black hair and like the 5 member aspect but their vibe is different in my opinion. Newjeans is more y2k tamagotchi vibe but Illit gives me more dreamcore- another world vibes either way I love them!
Newjeans has become incredibly influential in K-pop, reintroducing a lively, non-edgy concept and style. So whenever K-pop fans see something that's not hip-hop or edgy, they say, "They look like Newjeans, or they copied Newjeans' concept." Despite Hybe mentioning in an article that ILLIT will have a pluggnb style of music, and Newjeans hasn't even released any songs in that genre yet, people still drag ILLIT by saying they copied them. Newjeans has moombahton and jersey club style of songs using Y2K as concepts. ILLIT will havr smthg like dreamy and magical concepts in pluggnb genre.

the hate on r u next? was so overblown in my opinion. i thought the voting and ranking system were shit as well, but most of the dissatisfaction just came from people who felt that their favorites were unfairly criticized. clearly their opinions didn't matter more than the hybe producers because the illit girl with the most fancam views, weibo followers, hit tweets, and all that is one of the girls that received hate because she was "rigged" into the group
funnily enough, illit's first real "noise" outside of the crickets of their post-show preparations was because of the hate they received during fashion week. there were hit tweets after hit tweets asking how rookies can attend the fashion show when even instagram influencers of 20k followers were invited. after that, their song snippets went viral and here we are. never doubt the power of a braindead hate train not understanding how good promotion actually works. it feels like sometimes kpop stans don't want artists actually promoted well when that's the appeal of a big company in the first place
its good promotion/doing your job if its the company promoting one of your faves. its payola if its not. duh.

The member you picked out was Yunah, who is the eldest member (and i believe the leader? thats what i thought and kprofiles is telling me thats the case, but dont take it as gospel). She was incredibly talented and it was obvious from very early on. I'm having a bit of a mental lapse but I think the show tried to paint her with having some attitude problems, but even the portrayal was very minor stuff. Shes very passionate and emotional from what I remember, her like sobbing after every person was eliminated along with Chanel. (note this could all be me crossing her with other contestants because we're so far out, but I think im remembering right)
I love the debut, I was excited and while Youngseo was my bias frontrunner i was still a big fan of Moka and voted for her a lot, and none of the girls are not deserving. Anyone saying wonhee didnt deserve it was insane, she was very popular and has a really nice vocal tone, idc if people think other trainees were technically more proficient at something (there were), people have to like you as an idol. its part of the job description. and she was STUPIDLY popular, and has a pretty fun goofy side.

ILLIT is a girl group which is composed of 5 members :
Wonhee (Korean. She was born in 2007), Minju (Korean. She was born in 2004), Yunah (Korean. She was born in 2004), Iroha (Maknae. Japanese. She was born in 2008) and Moka (Japanese. She was born in 2004).
The girl group was formed through a survival show called "R U Next?" which was a collaboration between JTBC and HYBE.
The group debuted on March 25, 2024 with "SUPER REAL ME" Mini Album.

People keep saying they are copying new jeans but both this group and new jeans are copying “pink parentheses” music just how pretty much now for the past couple of years kpop lost its originality and copy pasting black artists music and style but in a watered down way. I’m not gonna hate on the groups because it isn’t their fault and I still eat up the music music regardless but I’m stating facts that for a while now kpop groups have been copying western artists especially black artists style and music more than ever and sadly groups don’t have any identities anymore
So I’m just gonna say if you like that style then listen to the original in “pink parentheses” music
