How to Read a Geotechnical Report
Speaker: Dan Gonser, P.Eng., Geotechnical Manager, Stratford and Kitchener, MTE Consultants Inc.
Moderator: Bill Garibaldi, Senior Project Manager, MTE Consultants Inc.
Yes, we have all seen Geotech Reports. But have you ever really read one? Sometimes it seems that these reports are simply appended to tenders before they go out the door. Geotechnical reports should be used to inform both the design and construction of a project. In order for them to be useful, some thought needs to be put into how you are going to be able to use the information when you are designing the project and how it will be used by the contractor when completing the project.
Dan Gonser, Geotechnical Engineer with MTE Consultants will identify what you should discuss with your geotechnical consultant when you are beginning the planning for your underground infrastructure project so we can get the information we need for both your design and construction. Should the geotechnical investigation be done only once, or should it be phased as the design progresses? What can we learn from those borehole logs and what is important to consider for underground infrastructure design.
