no he didn’t climb Everest. he was told by other professionals and Bear Grylls himself to stay at base camp while the others ascended the mountain to possibly find Michael’s body. the body from the photograph turned out to not be Michael, but Spencer decided that if they could not find Michael, they’d recover the body from the photo in order to give that family peace

He sat in a warm tent eating meals, drinking coffee and speaking to the real rescuers on Mount Everest. Sad story and undoubtedly traumatising for a young man and I respect the vulnerability and honesty. If anyone ever watched an inkling of this guy on British television you'll see he's an absolute Silver spoon asshole with barely any source of emotion for anyone but himself. Even in the movie he can't even strain out a tear because he's emotionally a fucking dry river bed. His brother is an absolute warrior to climb everest at 22!
Grief and time effect us all differently especially when as children we model the adults around us Spencer clearly says that the family didn’t talk about it or cry openly in the Disney documentary. I too had a view of Spencer before this film that was probably similar to yours but think he showed a very different Spencer. I think he did the right thing to stay at base camp not putting others or himself at more risk. Think this title was click bait.
@@sweigh72 You are absolutely right in regards to grief affecting us all differently. He definitely come across more human but bare in mind he is on a huge platform Disney movie. I watched the documentary and it was not good. It felt forced and no emotion whatsoever. Listening to him here you'd think that he actually climbed on Everest to look for his brother. But no, he just sat at Basecamp. That's ok I guess, it's best to know your limits but I didn't enjoy the documentary. Full respect to the Sherpas that went there on the mountain, facing real danger.
He paid someone else to risk their lives to find the body. He went to basecamp. After 18yrs on everest , the suit worn by his brother surely would have lost its vibrant color ? The photo showed it looked alot fresher than 18yrs..
Such a sad story I never knew that about him , I applaude him for doing that for his family and himself , I hope he does get his brothers body but I'm sure it would be very difficult for him to see , 💔 my dear friend is training to climb mount Everest and I coudlnt be more proud ...and worried I would have loved to hear his opinions on the stories that suggest his death was preventable and the expedition wasnt planned appropriately
Yal act like base camp is at the bottom? It’s a week long hike to get that far…. It’s just the first camp before u can’t breathe & helicopters can’t fly… that has to be pretty dang high
The documentary hit my heart hard. I believe that Michael will be his family’s guardian angel. What a beautiful, courageous person. Blessings to him in heaven and his family on Earth. I wish soo much that his body would be found. I wish his little brother would keep trying to find him. If the purpose was to touch peoples hearts, it worked, I could not stop crying. His legacy will be remembered by the world and my soul felt such love for, as if I knew him somehow. 🙏🇨🇦❤️🌈🌎🌺🌸💐
It helps when you have alot of money and privilege to go get a body. You don't see this happening for normal people ,this is only done for those that have the privilege and money to do so.Disney isn't out there recovering all the other bodies
At least it show people how many lives were actually lost on mount everest. I never knew how many climbers and sherpas died while climbing everest, I found the documentary really informative.
@@emmziekins I agree, I think it's great I was just pointing out how much it costs. Its also not easy to do.Sadly it can't be done for all those lost.Spencer himself has brought alot of awareness but a great legacy would to also try bring awareness to safety measures and giving people the right training as well.He would be really good at that and it would help save lives.
Most bodies are too high to safely recover it's actually against the law to let the bodies rest there if they are easily retrieved the problem is people have also lost their life's trying to recover people's bodys even flying to retrieve them is almost impossible
I believe if you attempt this you have to realize you may die in this process and remain there. You can’t just expect a bunch of people to die to recover a corpse. Bottom line that person is gone. It’s just a body. I wouldn’t want anyone dying trying to get mine. I don’t climb. I skydive. If I somehow end up somewhere crazy - leave me there. My choice to engage in high risk sports.
