Lyta was used by everyone she ever called an ally and that was even before the Vorlons turned her into a weapon of mass destruction. Psi Corps, the Vorlons, Sheridan and then Byron. Hell, even G'Kar wanted to use her as a brood mare to make Narn telepaths. The tragedy of Lyta Alexander is that she could never find anyone who didn't want anything from her and saw her as a person, not a weapon.

Except for Zack. However his personal feelings are in conflict with his duty as head of security.
Lyta is a walking nuclear weapon. Zack knows that, even though he likes her personally (perhaps romanticly but he has been so friendzoned that he won't even attempt it) he won't disobey his bosses to just keep her happy, because Lyta isn't safe to have around, but much more dangerous to leave in untrusted hands.

The "oldest of the old," or, as we say in America, "Mr. President."

      Blatant plagiarism of The Eurythmics

I think previous seasons DID show Patricia Tallman’s strengths in acting - season 4 really brought out her range. But most of season 5 managed to make her very one-note, spending most of it in orbit of Byron. I don’t think that’s her fault.

It's my understanding if that Claudia Christian had stuck around for season 5, the plan was for a Lyta/Ivanova/Byron love triangle.
I think Ivanova's absence definitely weakened the Byron/telepath arc in general.

I do wish that the other characters actually acknowledged that they really, really, owe Lyta. Instead, Sheridan threatens to send her to get examined by Bester cause she blows up the Shadows homeworld (and it's highly likely that she couldn't have stopped herself from doing so even if she wanted to), let alone I don't think she's even mentioned in Sleeping in Light (to be fair, that was filmed before season 5). It's blatantly obvious that even a simple 'oh, thanks for literally saving us repeatedly' would be appreciated. Zach does try, but it doesn't help that there's such a huge difference between the two. The training/indoctrination put into telepaths is going to be hard for them to shake. And of all the people who try to meet them half-way, it's Lockley of all people.
A telekinetic, as mentioned in season 1, are incredibly rare, even by telepath standards. You'd think that Psi-Corp would have special interest in the kid.
As obnoxious as Byron is, I can see his point. He's not doing himself any favours, but then, neither are the alliance, Sheridan etc. Delenn took on that telepath kid for example in season 1; as difficult it would be to give them a space station or ship to do their own thing in, let alone a colony (I'm sure Mars is independent but it'd be difficult enough to manufacture a dome for them to stay in). And even finding a life-sustaining planet for them to stay, how'd that work out? Forget about any potential nasties out there, what's stopping Psi-Corp swooping in and nabbing them?
And the bullies etc. JFC. Byron, again, tries to do the pacifism route, again, I can see his point. Why bother aggravating them, when you can just get them to back off and leave you alone? But, don't those idiots realise if he wanted to, he could do far, far worse to them?
"For the next two weeks, you will not be able to have an erection. Try to mix with us again, and for the next two weeks, you won't be able to go to the toilet." You'd think that that might make them take the hint.

How many of these people are gonna show up here?
How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?
It depends on the tune, now give me a straight answer or get ready to feel the beat!

Its not the nicest thing to say but JMS has a hard core crush on Patricia Tallman so much so they did have relationship in the 2010's. JMS says he saw her in one of the night of the living dead movies and that is how she got on Babylon 5 for the Pilot. JMS spends a lot of time talking about her eyes in some of the DVD commentaries. Babylon 5 is the little show that could but I'm not sure if this Telepath story would have been any better with Claudia Christian. I don't see Ivanova working in this storyline any better than Lyta.

I think one of Byron's huge handicaps was the amount of crying he does in the series. If your actor cannot cry well, and he does it in near half his episodes, you've got a dud character.

Did... did Marvel steal the idea that this special "evolved" form of humanity was actually engineered to be weapons for their stupid Ultimate line back in the day from B5?

I never liked Byron at all. Call me a softie but I always thought it should have been done this way and you can see some of this was in the show already.
Zach sticks up for Lita to Sheridan et al, and they started dating because of it, Zach kinda did try to go on a date with her a couple times. Lita being on an Earth controlled station starts a sort of Telepath underground railroad of sorts moving them out from Earth controlled space to the outer rim space. This causes tension between her and Zach because she's responsible for so many people but he is head of security now. Zach decides to help her and they get caught then Sheridan gets involved. Situation blows up and the new council thing Sheridan was leading has to take a vote on how this is going to be handled between the main worlds on the council and the non-aligned worlds. Earth telepaths officially recognized as "free" and this directly leads into the Telepath war. Psi Corps wants to control telepaths and is using Earth Gov to make it happen and the rest of the universe allows them to chose their own destiny. All the while Lita was at the forefront being the most powerful telepath in existence that is known due to Vorlon augmentation.
But.. no have her fall for boring Byron. Ugh.
