    I've carried for many years and I carry everyday. I've used and tried several holsters over the years. Some guns I carry do ride in kydex. And some ride in leather. I do like how good leather wears your gun evenly, over time. Some kydex I've tried have ripped the finish off my guns and left bad scratches the 1st time I've inserted and removed my handgun. My main 2 carry guns currently are a Glock 23 and a Ladysmith 642 S&W 38 snub. The Glock is a very early gen 3. It came to me with the black finish pretty well gone in spots. It was carried daily for years in a kydex Blackhawk hip holster. I like and use the Blackhawk holster and actually like the massive holster wear. And I don't have to worry about scratching the gun when I carry it. Nothing left to scratch LoL! I carry my 642 in a new Galco Concealable Havana brown open top holsters. I love wearing and breaking in leather ! I've probably tried almost every style of holster there is. Galco leather is my favorite, hands down. Best leather there is !

    You need to get Staghorn grips for your 1911 to be like Longmire

      I bought from Premium Manufacturing Group a pair of synthetic stag grips. They are great looking. But not as pricey as real stag,Elk or any other horn grips.

    I have a similar Galco with a thumb break and the old leather and suede paddle for my P226. Must be 25-30yrs old? Looks and works the same as the first day I snapped my Sig into it. A bit pricy but works great and has lasted almost forever!

      Same here. I'm in a Longmire binge right now, and my '94 is leaning nearby (Longmire uses an actual 1894 model.)
      My leather belt holster (a belt-slide that is not a Galco) holds a Remington R1S Enhanced Commander in stainless steel.

    Will this one holster work with a 4" and a 5" 1911, or do you have to buy a 2nd holster for a 5"?

    How good would this pistol do in a hunting scenario walking through thick brush do you think the pistol is at risk at snagging a branch and falling out?

    • @jonathanjohnson8656
      @jonathanjohnson8656 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ever notice how the state troopers use their elbow to ensure no one can get to their pistol? With practice you can keep your pistol secure and still use your hands to move branches from in front of you in most cases. Also I believe there is a tension screw to adjust how tightly it's held in place. I could be wrong. I would recommend that you get a cheaper kydex type to see if you want to spend the kind of money a galco would set you back for your purpose. Uncle Mike's sells some for under $20. I agree that kydex is a rather soulless type of holster and I've heard some say it can mark the pistol, so look into it before you put something nice in one. I use a hk usp 45 and it hasn't hurt mine but you might have a different result. Also, leather can easily be scratched and marked by thick brush so you may want to consider that. Sorry for the long response but in 30 years of ccw and living in a very rural area ( hunting/ fishing etc.) I've tried a lot of holsters and I thought maybe I could help you a little bit. Good luck with whatever you decide to go with. Hope I said something that was helpful.

    If you wouldn’t make your girl wear a kydex collar, than why would you make your pistol make a kydex holster? Leather is love!

    The only reason why they use Paddle hosters in movies is because they are easy to take off and put on.

    • @theoverunderthinker
      @theoverunderthinker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      that's why people use them in real life too: easy to put on and take off. if you don't need that, you can get a holster with belt loops instead, but some people need to get them off and on without taking off their belt in public or semi public (like in your car or when you get to work)

    Anyone looking to move from one state to another..NC isn’t the place. You can do a lot better somewhere else. Just FYI .galco makes good stuff. Last I had was a glock 33 /Fletch combo. The gun wasn’t right for me..at that time,but…The fletch was great.

    It’s garbage! The 1911 rides high, the paddle is too narrow, and it has NO retention! This holster is unsafe for CCW and if you get into a scuffle someone will probably disarm you or it will fall out onto the ground. I’m a 20 year LE Officer and to advocate this holster for anything other than television novelty or range use is unsafe. The guy doing this review is not experienced in such things and needs to be considered opinion only, the wrong opinion!

    • @BrennanHammons
      @BrennanHammons หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, especially about the retention. I’d like to have a leather OWB holster for my 1911, but it seems kydex is the only way to get lvl 2 retention. A hybrid of the two would be nice.

    • @stevepauley2437
      @stevepauley2437 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Funny how @ 2:28 he shows and demonstrates the retention. Plus, what’s it been, like 200+ years, we’ve been using leather holsters.

      Braaah why y’all cops always interpret the wrong ideas and let alone let everyone know your one? Also this is perfect for hunting, open waist band, sticks out enough to un holster for rattlesnakes and hogs.
