My 1st time listening to you &……I really like what your approach! You don’t scare me like many others; living in fear is not a good thing for me. You are great. I just closed my eyes & listened…..& began thinking of ways to live, save, prepare more smartly for the future. As a single mother on a very limited income, every penny counts. Thank you for your positive spin on doing life in the days ahead. I began following you as of right now!
We paid cash for our 1939 house 3 1/2 yrs ago, paid cash for our 1 vehicle, my husband and I live on $900 a month. That's insurance ( house & vehicle), 1 cell phone, utilities, groceries, household items, animal feed...it CAN he done! Rest of my income goes into savings.
Once again, Zack - great advice. I was raised by parents and grandparents from the depression era. In 2020 I realized there was a lot of information that I had forgotten and began to remember. All 5 of your things are excellent advice and right in line with living through lean times. My parents believed that enjoying life was as important as survival. I'm glad you are putting this information out and not dwelling on the doom and gloom that so many TH-camrs are doing these days. Yes, I know that most of them just want us to be aware of events, but a few of them need to lighten up a bit. Here's a big 👍
Live and be more grounded with our roots where we are!! I am very new to the country life homestead life. Just moved to the country last June, lived in the city all my life. Got chickens this Year, hoping for pigs next. If we can provide our protein and our veggies OH MY WORD. I can only dream of the money we would save on our grocery bill. Praise God me, my husband, and both my daughters know how to hunt. And plan to teach my son to hunt when he turns 12. To God be the glory for everything he has provided us with
Spot on! I have been doing all these things. I’m looking for a local farmer for meat, which is the only thing we can’t do here on our rental property. I feel blessed that I don’t always have to look at my grocery receipts, or budget in my head while shopping. Thank you for your encouraging words, I look forward to all videos from Stivers homestead ❤
Hey Zack & Jenn, one thing I’m doing is I made a list of our top 10 favorite veggies. We’re going to focus on those foods to grow this spring/summer. Of course I’ll be expanding our orchard by 4 trees/vines again. And add to our herb garden. We grew too many ‘new’ things & didn’t grow enough of the important foods. I am very proud of the pinto bean haul but Marigold & I won’t do it again, it was fun this one time. We harvested 5 five gallon buckets of pinto beans. Good list, good video!!! Blessings, debby
I threw 5 pinto bean seeds in this last summer to see what would happen. I ended up with 2lbs of beans. We have an area in our garden dedicated to a couple of new/fufu things.
@@utopicconfections5257 my daughter wants to try black beans. We’re only on 5 1/2 acres but there is always room to try one new thing. BUT, I’m focusing on green beans, English peas, winter squash, potatoes (both sweet & regular) & a variety of leafy greens, cabbage, broccoli…we did not preserve near enough for a 3 generation farm!!! Merry Christmas!!!, debby
We are doing new raised metal beds this year. We decided to educate ourselves on what is best for production and minimal problems in our area. I want to also focus on PERSERVING. Love that so many people are starting to think the same, we are no longer the crazy people lol
2 months ago, our spare fridge went out had broth stored in the freezer, I had to can 32 qts of broth lol took from 6 am to 930 pm, next day got up early and canned the last 14 qts. Now that it took up most of my canning jars, i am gonna open them all and boil them down and dehydrate it to a powder, takes up less space lol. Also buy frozen veggies on sale in the bags, they are pre blanched, i have a 7 tray dehydrator, so i get 7 bags of what ever veggie i want, peas, butternut squash, etc. Dehydrate them at 125 for about 12 hrs, most will fit in 1 mason jar plus half of another, vacuum seal it easy to rehydrate for what ever you need, i have 2 4x8 beds this year planted with garlic, but if you cant do that, buy garlic on sale, (you will need a lot), peel, chop in food processor and dehydrate, you can leave it at that small size or I put mine in a spice grinder and make powder, makes for great gifts too! So much more you can do with store bought if you can not grow. Get some of those .99cent bunches of onions, finely chop the them, (dont want them or garlic dehydrated inside lol) during the winter i dry them on the counter in the kitchen, bay window works well too (for the green onions) let them air dry. if you have a garage or balcony you can set a dehydrator out there to dry onions and garlic. also can buy the chopped frozen onions and dehydrate those. Buy tomatoes on sale, i core them, freeze them and keep them in the freezer till i have enough to make sauce. Improvise it will work
My husband and I have planned out our finances before the year end as well each year. It helps to keep thing on the right path and we reach our goals much better when we both plan them out.
One of your best videos, Zak. We are in tune with the first 4 encouragements, but that number 5 really got my attention. You are absolutely right about that and I appreciate the encouragement. Merriest of Christmases to you and your family! Thank you so much.
I have been working my butt off here trying to get things prepared for what may be ahead. I've been canning, freezing and dehydrating bunches of stuff. I had a large garden this summer and a lot of the veggies and sauces I canned came from there. You all have been an inspiration to a lot of us. You keep us going, and keep us striving to do better for food security. Thank you! Here is a rundown of what I've been able to get stocked up on this year.... 5 qts Green Tomatoes for frying, 36 qts Spighetti Sauce, 39 qts Venison Sausage, 175 to 200 Venison Sausage Links, 9 pints Ground Venison, 25 qts Venison Chunks, 8 qts Venison Broth, 10 pints Venison Broth, 12 qts Beef Bone Broth, 27 pint Green Beans, 14 pts Apples, 7 qts Apple Pie Filling, 18 pints Ambrosia Pears, 10 to 15 qts freezer pickles And I have been dehydrating food too. 5 qts Dehydrated Cherry Tomato Snacks Garlic & Basil, Garlic & Basil & Parmesan cheese 9 qts Dehydrated Mushrooms (plus what we had already eaten) 1 qt Dried Celery Leaf Greens 1 pint Dehydrated Blueberries 1/2 pint Dried Dill For making dried soup mixes 1/2 pint Dried Parsley 1-1/2 qts Dehydrated Celery 1-1/2 qts Dehydrated Carrots 1-1/2 qts Dehydrated Sweet Peas 2 lbs Pasta 2 lbsBarley 1 ½ qts Dehydrated Mushrooms And I still am working on dehydrating Garlic (from my garden) for in the soup mix, and for making my own Garlic Salt and Powder, and I will still be doing a bunch of Venison Jerky as well in my dehydrator.
@@rusticgardenretreat4892 Thank you very much!!!! I am disabled and I am trying my best to get enough food for my mother, my husband and I. He is the hunter, and that is where all the venison is coming from. I do the gardening, canning, butchering, etc.... My mother is 85 yrs old, disabled as well, and has a hard time doing much. So as you see, food security is very important to me. I have others that depend on me, and I refuse to let them down. 😊
I sincerely miss my Chappel Hill deer sausage as they seemed to have quit making it at the start of the pandemic. You are very lucky to have a hunter in the family. I am limited by city restrictions on growing chickens or any kind animals within city limits. My kids were in Ag class, and we grew chickens and rabbits for competition. Fishing, hiking and camping are our favorite vacations hands down. This last year I planted 3 black bean plant and got over 3lbs of black beans. I'm focusing on a big bed of those
You are so right, having fun doesn't have to cost money. Sharing your time with the people you care about and getting creative makes everything else follow through. I've changed my in-ground garden into raised beds since I'm older and my body doesn't like all the bending and kneeling. I've also planned to expand my garden including a couple of columnar apple trees. They don't take up much space and will provide enough apples for my family, so I don't have to buy them.
The only thing I'll be worry about in 2024 is keeping the Faith, work toward electric use staying low & seriously increase gardens (food preservation).
HUBBY retired last month. We are going to pay off all debt in Jan..and pay those taxes..Thats going to help alot.He has army pension and ss will kick in in Jan.We will still have our small 401k investments. Not much but its what we have..
I don’t have a space to garden so I have three beds in a community garden. I grow a year’s worth of garlic and onions. It’s possible if you want it enough.
If I as a 70 year old can learn to can in the last 3 years, you can too. Watch Jenn and other TH-cam videos. Just type in whatever you plan to make. It's addictive, yummy and a great way to preserve your home grown vegetables.

Election year is always full of chaos. I work from October thru December writing out the first six months goals I want to get done each month. One thing in each month must be a task that will save me money or better prepare me for extremes in weather without electricity. It helps to have a WRITTEN list of goals that you look at on almost a daily routine as it will better guide your spending. It is easier to say no to yourself on an impulse purchase if you have a lofty goal in your mind always. It also makes prayers easier when you have a list to go to the Lord with to ask for his help in accomplishing IF it be his will for you.
Great advice. Bulk buy and downsize. I work too many hours to keep up with a huge garden but my amish lady neighbors grow great gardens. It helps us both. Definitely don't watch the news. And most definitely LiVE!!
Yes! My plans are only eat meals from home (except 2x Mo) I’m planning in hitting grocery store for deals on produce… still container growing as well…. No CC !
I am all electric, I have been trying to get this wood stove finished out, finally got someone to help me get the through the roof install of pipes, everyone else wanted 1800.00 to 2400.00 that was just labor! My neighbor and son are helping me for 300.00 being poor is hard but I just need 2 more pipes because I had to reroute around a ceiling joist . Hope to have it finished b4 harsh weather rolls in and we loose power. Just because I live in Texas doesn’t mean we don’t see 2f days we do
I thank God I have a wpod stove so only use electric of the fire goes out during the nite. Candles and oil lamps are great too!! Put out some heat too!!
Love you guys!!! ❤❤❤ You both are inspirations to us all!!! You're not fear mongering, you are matter of fact, and positive. I love that. Makes me feel better about the future. Thank you for everything you guys do!!!! You are awesome!!!
I totally agree on plenty of this vlog I just went thru my Roku app and cancelled a few ..and also check thing out that we need the most ..and I started saving seeds ..so I will be planting seeds I saved and I have gotten better in growing veggies … I buy when the foods on sale I try to buy enough for a good while I do have two humongous, deep freezers. I even learned to freeze my bread and that works out very well so I’ll buy the bread when on sale and I’ll freeze several loaves,…I keep up with the vehicles on their oil changes and things like that because I heard that helps save money. .. when you’re home put in a little bit more so I have my husband and my father-in-law that are kind of ill so they don’t like it cold so we will not usually air on for a good while unless it’s in the 90s but other than that we’re open the windows, put the ceiling fans on ..
If you are new to gardening, I might suggest that if you have family members that live near to you but in a different growing zone, you might share gardening produce. My daughter lives 30 minutes further south and is closer to the water table. We find that some things grow better at her house than at mine, and vice versa. It also helps with extended family members sharing information about what is on sale in a given area. Sometimes the instore sales in my area are better than what is in her area.
I know where you are coming from. I retired 2 years ago. I tried doing gardening every time over the past few years the rabbits squirrels and birds got my garden. So i found a local gardener that I brought tomatoes from have enough for a couple years. But I also have a order in next year for green and yellow beans and will can those. Being i can't grow them i buy them along with squash. So there's always a way to get veggies. Also bought half a beef for 2.35 a lb.from a local farmer. Also got gifted a half of beef my nephew and I are going to grind it up tomorrow for hamburger for our family
I'm so happy I moved my family from Washington State to Missouri this past year.... My husband is struggling with the move still but I think that we will be feeling better about it with what we are facing....
My friends live in MO they said the electric went sky high? Did yours? It did go up in Michigan, we are working on some solar or wind. We are doing it not buying from a company.
I think people can get caught up in all of the election stuff especially since it starts way too early. LOL but I think there are definitely options thank goodness!
Great video! Like the way you look at life and not going for all the negative. I’m gonna hit that subscribe button. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.
Great video Zach! Materialism is so rampant and crazy. We have been debt free for about 30 years, it is so empowering. Of course we have done without many material things we really never needed in the first place. But our society is based on materialism. Get away from it, sell those things and pay down your debt and pay YOURSELF to manage your money. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year! 👍🏻😊🙏❤️🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
I see a very reduced government in our future I agree with you Zach. We are grateful to have our well no cost for water and solar. I love helping out the kids and bought them a Corsi dehydrator for Christmas. My granddaughter’s wonderful husband is home from deployment, the boys behavior is so much better. I chose the carnivore way of eating to heal my body I am feeling so much better, I have Oxalate poisoning from eating vegan and drinking my superfood smoothie’s. Love hugs and blessings everyone. ❤
I had never heard of oxalate poisoning. It might be why I don't tolerate spinach anymore. There are more and more greens that I find myself saying no to as I get older.
Zack, I am new to your channel and I am an old guy and I know what you speak about but you can't close your eyes to what going on so enjoy your holidays and we will think about that for now ok thanks
Another thing thats ofter not talked about becasue it's "contravercial". Hunting anf fishing. Meat prices are rediculous. I'm allowed up to 5 deer and a bear wher I live. We grind a good amount, there have been years we haev not bought ground beef from stores adn just relied on ground venison. Thje steaks are hard to beat and the stew meat is amazing. Offer it to others. This really is the year to tag an extra deer, or freaze a few more squirrels. For those that don't hunt but may want some meat, there is no harm in talking with a hunter you know and asking for some, offering to help cut it up or whatever. SOmetimes a hunter is willing to know down another deer if they know itll be used. Fishing: We go run some limb lines, and jugs heavey for a few weeks and stock up on some good old catfish. Add in some mountain trout and. Meat proteins eat up a food budget quicker than anythig nelse tha tI know of. Saving money there can be a godsend especially if you have farm raised animals in the freezer to add into the mix. .
This advice you’re giving is what most people were already doing since the economy has been bad for over a year. To buy a truck, camper and not to mention the vacations you guys have taken wasn’t exactly frugal living
Lol! I wish I had something g to sell! The good news is, I have no payments as of currwnt and I finally paid off my credit card at the beginning of December 🙌🙌🙌🙌 Now I just need to have the money for an Emergency fund, chicken coop, cheap truck, fence, etc.
I got hams today for .89 a lb. Even though I should be baking for Christmas I will also be canning ham, making ham broth and canning that too. I know ham will not be .89 lb again for a long time .... if ever

We double sized our gardens at the ebd of summer. Bought a big greenhouse. Also created a new garden and going to grow popcorn.
WELL SAID SIR WELL SAID!
Thank you! You had a lot of great information ❤
Great mindset! Keep on keeping on!
I think this is a great list! Thank you and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎉
Love you guys!!! ❤❤❤ You both are inspirations to us all!!! You're not fear mongering, you are matter of fact, and positive. I love that. Makes me feel better about the future. Thank you for everything you guys do!!!! You are awesome!!!
I totally agree on plenty of this vlog
I just went thru my Roku app and cancelled a few ..and also check thing out that we need the most ..and I started saving seeds ..so I will be planting seeds I saved and I have gotten better in growing veggies
… I buy when the foods on sale I try to buy enough for a good while I do have two humongous, deep freezers. I even learned to freeze my bread and that works out very well so I’ll buy the bread when on sale and I’ll freeze several loaves,…I keep up with the vehicles on their oil changes and things like that because I heard that helps save money.
.. when you’re home put in a little bit more so I have my husband and my father-in-law that are kind of ill so they don’t like it cold so we will not usually air on for a good while unless it’s in the 90s but other than that we’re open the windows, put the ceiling fans on
..
I think your top 5 are well thought out and spot on.😊
Thank you Zack.. we needed that! 👏🏻.
Excellent advice!
First time listener thanks for a great video!
Also got gifted a half of beef my nephew and I are going to grind it up tomorrow for hamburger for our family
broth both freeze dried & canned & also vegtable broth also canned chicken -turkey-pork & beef yumm
@@ghents565 No, thank God I don't live in the city and am in an rural electric co-op!
This is great. Thank you 😊
I think people can get caught up in all of the election stuff especially since it starts way too early. LOL but I think there are definitely options thank goodness!
Great video! Like the way you look at life and not going for all the negative. I’m gonna hit that subscribe button. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.
I hope you reach your goal this week.
Merry Christmas 🎄❤️⛄️
Happy New Year 🍾🎄❄️
Very good advice young man
Very true Zach! I’m not watching tv and finding something else to do!
So true. Live well :)
Excellent advice, thanks for the reality check!
I just got 9- 4 lb bags of sugar on sale for 99 cents. Lots of canned veggies were on sale 88 cents.
This was a great video. There are so many things that are fun to do that are lie cost or free
Same I thought about our boat
Great message. BTW, have you looked into solar panels to help your electric? I don't know if they replace electric or off set.
Zack, I am new to your channel and I am an old guy and I know what you speak about but you can't close your eyes to what going on so enjoy your holidays and we will think about that for now ok thanks
i agree prices are going up. make quilts out of old clothes. right now making a jean quilt the old fashion way.
Good advice to all!
Saving money there can be a godsend especially if you have farm raised animals in the freezer to add into the mix. .
i have homemade chicken-turkey-pork-beef - bone & primerib broth & it is easy to do & sooooo much more delicious
This advice you’re giving is what most people were already doing since the economy has been bad for over a year. To buy a truck, camper and not to mention the vacations you guys have taken wasn’t exactly frugal living
Is sitting in the dark with heat set at 60 going overboard? 😂
Great video brother. Great info. Thanks
Im hearing of lots of part shortages on electric grid supplies like transformers. Long wait list.
Lol! I wish I had something g to sell! The good news is, I have no payments as of currwnt and I finally paid off my credit card at the beginning of December 🙌🙌🙌🙌 Now I just need to have the money for an Emergency fund, chicken coop, cheap truck, fence, etc.
Amen!!
You are so right
Now this is a good video❤
Who doesn't just love this family 😘🐻❄️🌲
Great advice!
Amen
Thanks! ❤
Great inf9
I got hams today for .89 a lb. Even though I should be baking for Christmas I will also be canning ham, making ham broth and canning that too. I know ham will not be .89 lb again for a long time .... if ever
I dont even want to see 2024. Gonna make 2020 look like a day trip to disney
Just pray to that spirit in the sky.
❤Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life. ❤
good advice
Making a herb garden thats more productive and planting at least a few trees.
Loved this video! Life is to be lived.....GOD, family and taking care of business. However, if you dont place a bit of fun time in there, you can go a bit crazy! Agree with everything you said. Love this channel, GOD bless
Hey, I was wondering what is the best okra to grow for pickling.
It amuses me greatly to see people act like anything is going to be different with the election than it was in 2020. Has anything with the ejection process been changed? No. They will install the person they want to install.
If you want to make the World a better place, tale a look at yourself and make a change❤
Sensible advice without all the political bs, thank you
My electric and utilities have not changed in the past 12 years. I always plan and budget for food to be higher because we have 2 teenage boys.
Growing food for your animals to minimize feed bills.
