I watched "Move to Heaven" and it was a sad and sobering glimpse of reality. Folks such as Gil-sshi help those in their final passage. There is 1 important question the interviewer didn't ask: How are you doing? And by that, I mean mentally. This work has to be mentally draining and emotional to a large degree when dealing with various deaths all the time. I hope trauma cleaners get help to cope.

“Move to Heaven” is a beautiful movie. One hopes that at least one person respects and care for your personal items at the end of your life. It is a must see movie.

This is so sad.... many die alone. This happened to my beloved late brother and it broke my heart. You never know when you will die alone whether young or old.

This is definitely not a job for everyone. But for those who does it, thank you. There are so many people in the world who has nobody. If I was one of those people. I would be very sad no one ever finds me and puts me away. You do make a difference, even if you don’t see it.

It's true. Chasing after material things. You can't take it with you. Seek after eternal things where moth and rust cannot destroy.

Very sad, andeducational. Always check on yr friends and family, this is rude and neglect on many levels. Not only there belongings are behind there lonely soul of residual energy remains. Everyone should have to be looked after.
This Cleaning service is awesome and very responsive along with respect. Others really don't. 💙💕💙

This breaks my heart. How can you have your whole life ahead of you but suicide is the only option?! That’s the real pandemic, not just in Korea but around the world. I hope more people will find joy in simpler life and building strong personal connections with other humans rather than the focus on wealth and materialism. Praying for the souls of all who’ve died.

Unfortunately just the idea of having a financially stable life is already a challenge for a large part of us, it is not even a question of pursuing wealth and materialism. I sympathize with those who are living paycheck to paycheck and whose mental health is affected by the issues we face today when all we want is a stable, comfortable lifestyle.

The lonely deaths that these guys clean up aren't just people who die alone but die so alone and so isolated that what the cleaners encounter is usually a reeking decomposing corpse. It really isn't a job for the faint-hearted at all. The guy who that essay which inspired this show actually did an interview which you can find on YT called Cleaning up after 'godoksa', lonely deaths in Korea (channel: KST by The Korea Times).
It is sadly becoming an issue in many gentrifying societies. In Japan such deaths are called kodokushi. Just a quick google of this term will yield some similarly sad and disturbing stories told by the cleaners and loved ones left behind.

does it all get thrown away eventually if they don’t have family to claim them? do they donate the things that are still usable? do any of the workers keep things they find?

I think a few things go with them to the afterlife. In Korea they have building that have the persons name and pictures after they died. I’ve seen some that have a little piece of the persons jewelry or favorite thing( it could be a medal, phone, letters) placed next to their picture and their urn.

Im chronically ill and bed ridden with complex illnesses..
Being 50 , ive noticed im fading away quite fast ..
..so with help of my partner , we are selling, disposing , giving to charity , passing things on to relatives .
It takes time, but its so satifying .
I cant wait to get it complete.
My stuff is a burden to me .
...so the thought of giving some of it a new home
    ..makes me very happy.
    " putting affairs into order"
A very important chapter in everyones life .
Doesnt matter what your age .
Try not to have too much stuff ..
..and keep organised , label things ..
    .
I label stuff so my partner know who its goinb to
    ..when im gone.
Im trying to make life easier for her ...
Just wish i had done it sooner .
Its never too early to write a will, or organise ,
    ..minimalise your possessions .
It will help you so much in later life
..or when you get seriously ill.
    Try to plan ahead .
For your family and loved ones sake.
Write passwords for important files, lapyops , phojes ...
    ...so they can use them.
They also may want to close all you shopping accounts ..
..to stop anyone hacking your things .
Write down list of who you waht possessions to go to.
    Think about your pets .
Put a cat dog flap on door so that they can escape if
    anything happens to you.
Find one person you are friendly with and give them
Copy of your keys ...thats if you trust them.
Alot of people ghink ghey are imortal ..and refuse
    ..to face all this.
But you would be surprised how much it lifts the burden
    ..off your shoulders .
Theres nothing like being organised .
Bless you all..and those who pass over .
Thank you for evwryone who helps them once they have passed.
Thank you for caring about yheir things ...
..and closing up the end chapter of their life .
    💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

That's not the point tho. It's just that it was once an individual who used those materialistic stuff and, that gives off a morbid feeling that they are no longer alive.

The point is that we are all going to die and many of us will be alone when death comes . These tiny unfinished items are the reminder of our own mortality and our own helplessness when that time arches up with us.We were all with hopes and dreams and may were somebody's darling and we were all young once. Then we become decomposing cadavers. And within 2 generations we will not ,for the main part , be remembered. Those packs of gum and bottles of vitamins are testimony to the fact that it's as if we were never here.

No, thats because east asian societies are very behind when it comes to mental health, there is lack of spirituality now too, looser family bonds and the hive mindset of people + extreme expectations and perfectionism in school and work.
