The feeling of accomplishment when i managed to boot OSX for the first time was immense. I once built a "CommodoHackintosh". In 2010, Commodore USA released the "C64 Extreme", which was basically a laptop motherboard but installed in a new-style Commodore 64 case, complete with mechanical keyboard. WONDERFUL computer. • @Poweruser75
    @Poweruser75 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thanks for the retro look back. I haven't messed with a hackintosh in a few years. I do remember the days of hackintosh when it was hot. I think I had an Acer laptop at one point that ran everything really good. There's a chance I had to use USB Wi-Fi. I seem to be a big hurdle back in the day, that damn Wi-Fi. I had a couple of USB Wi-Fi sticks that were Mac OS compatible but you know it's not complete unless you can get all the pieces working. Sure is fine. Makes me kind of want to do it again. I do have a laptop right now, and MSI gaming laptop with dual graphics. I did find it challenging to hackintosh that particular laptop or ones like it because of the dual graphics. I may try again someday... For now, I still have my MSI gaming laptop but I have also acquired a MacBook pro from 2012 that I managed to push the latest Monterey OS on. It is an i7 with 8 gigs of RAM and a nice Nvidia graphics. So I dual booted it with Windows 11 to see what kind of games it would play running Windows full out on Mac hardware. It does run some decent games like getting over it. I know that's not the most graphical intensive game but the graphics do look pretty nice and they render clean. It plays other games of such style. I'm not in any way going to throw cyberpunk or anything that needs 2,000 gigs of RAM lol and a graphics card way better than what a MacBook pro has to offer. That light scribe technology was pretty cool. I had a Toshiba satellite that had light scribe capabilities and though it took about 30 minutes to render one desk, the results were pretty nice. If I do remember correctly the light scribe technology, you couldn't rub it off with your finger. There was a different style of technology out at the same time that did essentially the same thing but you could rub it with your finger and it was as if ink was smearing. I can't remember what that was called. It sure was fun being a part of all that stuff and being able to experience it and mess with it. I used to have a blast trying to find all the pieces of software to make the hardware work right. Hours and hours of looking through forums on a certain particular sound card model for the exact kext to make it work. That hackintosh was so finicky on some laptops when it was first being introduced as a possibility. I was all in it at the beginning stages right when Mac went to Intel and that made it possible. Of course no machine work straight out of the box when trying to do this the first time. I remember needing to go into verbose mode to find out where the machine was getting stuck and then I would run around on the internet searching all over the place for what that meant and when I finally got it and got the machine to work I'd start screaming and running all over the house making a fool of myself screaming about what I had done and my family looking at me like I've lost my mind. See ing the Mac OS startup welcome video WITH SOUND was icing... They had no idea...

      I mean, Windows Vista SP2 is more functional than macOS (though I'd suggest to install Windows 7 or 8.1, Windows 10 sucks) sooo if you manage to find drivers for all the hardware, it'll be an upgrade.

      Tons of people used BootCamp, software Apple wrote and supplied with every copy of Intel Macintoshes, to install whatever version of Windows they wanted. A lot of people used this dual boot setup for gaming and actual productive applications. Sad to say the ire you desire has long since expired.

      Actually this was done a lot back in the XP and Vista era, because PC laptops went through a spate of being shit about the same time macbooks were at their best. Windows ran better on them than MacOS did, from what I've seen. BTW one of these, with XP, was being shown off by a Microsoft rep at some trade show I went to.

    Would be cool to see you doing a 'proper' modern hackintosh 'vanilla' install with OpenCore and such on the same system, perhaps using Snow Leopard or the likes instead.

    Hi Michael. There is a way to install network drivers and sound drivers before installing idenib. You should see a button that says custom and you can install drivers from there

    8:37 that sign also means that, mac osx is running on hardware that isnt supported. its like when you boot into a mac os catalina install usb on a 2009 macbook pro that does not support catalina, and when you boot into the usb, you get that sign.

    Believe it or not, the Apple sticker trick actually was a completely legal way of using a hackintosh, and agreeing to the EULA for a significant period of time - as crazy as it sounds.
    I did the same thing with my HP laptop back in '07 , and everyone laughed, but who was using a legal version of OS X on unsupported hardware: this guy 👍🏻

      True, it says apple-branded, not manufactured by apple. You can put any apple branding on it and it's legal

    Can you try it with High Sierra or even Catalina? I've run Catalina on 2 GB of RAM before but I've never tried it with an IDE drive and I want to see how it would hypothetically go if you attempted it.

    I Hackintoshed my ASUS 2015 laptop and it was such an adventure, countless hours of browsing through different forums, having to completely disassemble my laptop to change the WiFi card to one that's compatible and all that, but I gotta tell you it was worth it, runs miles better than on Windows.

    Try using opencore in another project-video, it supports systems as old as Tiger 10.4 (Intel). iDeneb is a macOS “Distro”, you can do official macOS with no modifications with something like opencore, but you have to build your own EFI but it has its own advantages, one of them being able to control the drivers and the bootloader, the theme, etc.
