Trail of Tears Acknowledgement Walk

The Seminole Nation of Oklahoma received an invitation from the Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationists and the Seminole Tribe of Florida to visit the site where the Battle of the Loxahatchee River took place in 1838 which would lead to the removal known as the Trail of Tears. This was a return 184 years in the making. The invitation was accepted. In April, Chief Lewis Johnson, the Seminole Nation Honor Guard and the Historic Preservation Department made the trip to Jupiter, Florida and took a commemorative walk to acknowledge the same steps the ancestors took.
