😍loved my first interaction with your site, and learned a lot, I am a couple of years from flying but I want to thank you in advance while I focus on my weight loss (355 to 260). I am practicing with a 260mm windfoil to start learning the basics. I have my hang one cert. for hang glider but PG is on my bucket list by 70, currently 66. This would have to be the best intro to ground handling/paragliding I’ve seen. Great job Mark. You don’t don’t teach A’s and C’c in high winds? I always launch just as you’ve shown but I’m often told by others on launch that I should be using As and Cs. 🤔

To be fair A's & C's works fine took used to do it that way many moons back but find it a lot more simple my way because I can control the glider better, roll and pitch are easy this way.
Mark you make ground handling an art form, after 30 years of flying i still found this interesting

Excellent as usual thanks. I haven’t flown this past year, so this is a good refresher and sets me up for next year. The cobra landing is a new one for me and ‘Step Right, pull right…RELEASE’ will be embedded in my mind. I also recommend to everyone your video on windy top landings.
A final note: I always leave my glider connected but a quick reminder to all, no matter what the conditions, never fly without connecting your speed bar!

I remember watching version 1 when I was converting to paragliding from Paramotoring. This video is even better. Ground handling in strong winds would scare me. Your video provided me with the proper tools I needed to feel confident and safe. I felt I now had good techniques allowing me to progress and discover my limits in a safe manner. For me it made quite a difference while I was training. Great stuff. Your work is well appreciated.

Never even thought of flying but I just watched this entire video and couldn't stop you had my attention the hole time as if I were actually going to try this. I did learn that staying com is a big part of it. your ability to install convinces in a student is amazing

That was a great refresher, thanks so much for doing the video thing. I’m a new pilot getting rustier by the day here on Vancouver Island . As I sit here in my garage working on the bikes ,listening to the pelting rain, your video made me stop everything and sit down and go to class. Too much fun, made me feel like I had a good wind day. Your new mic works so much better. Looking forward to travelling to your area someday.

Been flying for a few years and this was by far the best instruction on ground handling in general but cobra launches and -landings in particular. I mean, I’ve done my ground handling but never really thought much of it. But come a few weeks ago I was at a great launch in strong but flyable wings and I couldn’t fly. Why? Because I couldn’t cobra up in a safe way. I’ll just have to practice more :).

First time I heard (and see) Cobra landing. Genius! I always tend to use the breaks at that point instead of walk the wing as you show here. Thanks!
I’m a new pilot (18 months flying) and I fly on the beach where is laminar wind but also sometimes is really windy, so this techniques are critical (cobra launching, the C’s to the hip, run to the wing after landing, killing the wing with the C’s,etc.).
A good place to go to have this kind of exercises is in Ground Handling Challenge site.

great video, .13.44, that plane seemed very close to the ridge, were notams in place, looks to me like it didn't have to be there. I've myself have been caught out like this, random aircraft, very scary situation when you think about what if's

Hey Marc, i just ordered my glider in 1,5 week I will pick it up, my course is starting March next year, i really like to do some ground practice with reasonable weather to gain some control before i start. Looking to your teachings I don’t see any danger as long I stay on the ground. Of course it’s my own responsibility but like to here your advice. Well thats fab news that your are taking up the hobby, get some lessons with a pro ground handling so he or she can sign you to ground handle solo and still be insured.

Whoa you didn't connect the speedbar that can be a costly mistake. Maybe filming 3rd time is the charm. Gosh uk has amazing flying hills. In Oregon it's covered in tall trees or private property. Cheers

Thanks for the great videos! One thing I'm having a bit of trouble with is the influence of twisting your hips when kiting (facing the wing). How much would this influence the wing?
It helps a lot if you can face the way your going for sure, just twist and face the way your walking and you will find it much better.
I saw the V1 before this .. and it was very good ... and I have to say .. you resemble the correct kind of teacher .. you do not assume that your student is reading what is on your mind .. you actually teaching the exact step by step and move by mope of the techniques you teach ... sadly I can not afford flying to where you are and enroll in your course .. am confident you are the teacher that can make my dream come true ..
I want your advice on something .. if I may ... what do you think about buying some old beaten up 1000+ hours wing .. not to fly it .. but to practice ground handling with it .. would that be an affordably option for a person like me?!! ...
One more thing .. if you ever come to Jordan (Middle East) .. remember you have a fan here :-)

Yes I totally understand not everyone can afford super nice gear, yes buying a beaten wing will work for sure, infact it will be so much harder because it will be beaten and tired that if you can master ground handling with it then when you do one day get something better you will have it easy 😂

@ the groundhandeling I love your explanations and follow you for a wile now. A Q: how you get for instance the wingtip touch the ground to get it u again? And what is the effect to open your body to the side? Please react in a PM .

Not 100% sure what you mean, I think you mean how to get the wing back up from the tip touching the ground!! If yes then all you do is move your body towards the low wing tip while pulling that same break, so if your facing the wing and the right side is touching the ground..... just walk right while pulling with right hand, that's it!

@@leavesleyaviation Hi Marc, sorry for my English. What I mean is, how do you manage to deliberately get the tip to the ground. I was looking over and over your videos but can’t analyse it from the pictures. When I am practicing by under walking the wing and breaking I can manage. But the tip on the ground happens in my case spontaneous 🤔, i know i am doing it myself but do not know how? And I want to play more and have better controle here in Holland. I am a licensed pilot, but never learned this at the flying school. And when I am in Austria/Italy, in the mountains i want to stay as long as possible in the air. ( can you blame me, as from the flat Netherlands 😁😁) What you explained was obvious an very good explained in your tutorials. Thanks upfront for your time and effort.
@@lraaij7104 Ok understand, so when the wing is above you, if you pull left hand the wing will go to your right, just before the wing gets close to the ground stop pulling left hand and maybe pull a small amount of right hand “But not for long” you will see the wing tip will stay there with gentle inputs at the correct time, I taught 2 pilots from the netherlands just before christmas, if you can find them on here rainout will show you as he was getting good at it before he left my school.

I would not know what to say buddy, 30 odd years ago I learnt all my stuff on my standard wing then moved onto a free style u turn for a while but here in the UK we don't have the best situations for aero.

What do you do to the controls to tilt one wingtip down before you show the correction procedure?
Just simply apply a brake and the wing will start to fall the opposite side.👍🪂
