These kind of videos is another reason why im glad i joined the insider club you guys are saving me money so i can buy more tackle. Keep up the good work
Were these lines wet during your test? I've noticed a significant gain in distance with S8S when it is wet. The old PowerPro has a bumpier finish, being only four strand, which also could make a difference. Fly line manufacturers have been adding texture to lines (Airflo Ridge technology for example) to reduce the surface contact with the guides, plus the ridges hold water which acts as a lubricant. As a consequence, ridged running lines outshoot smooth running lines.
I would like to see the difference between both lines after they’ve been fished for a couple outings. In my experience almost all eight carrier braids out cast 4 carrier braids after they have been worn in a little
Damn i wish i would've know that a week ago lol. Just got 150 yards of onyx colored slick V2 on my BG and its about $10 more than normal power pro. Great vids though brother keep em up. I certainly appreciate it.
I be done a semilar test and it turned out to be the spool that was the issue. I had my reels lined instead of lining myself and it wasn’t coming off the spool correctly. I spooled a reel up with one line caster it reeled that line to another reel respooled with a different line and casted with the same reel to get the accurate difference. Just a thought.
it makes sense, its just like shark skins competition swimming suits, that have micro ridges to create turbulence around the body that decreases drag in the water, and also, super slick racing tires, that generate greater traction on the racetrack. i guess that since the line guide is smooth and the 4 strand line is rough, it has fewer contact points to create friction, than a smoother 8 strand line..
It makes sense as a smoother surface would have more continuous contact on the guides. This is why they charge more money for those "sharkskin" fly lines because the contact with the surface is reduced.
The slick lasts a long time like the original and I'll be so happy when the spools on those reels finally go low enough I can get rid of it. I have found the same result on distance. Additionally, the color stands out more than I want it to (like the J Braid).
John Moore, the suffix although one of my top braids and all I like on my casting gear it is double the line size of power pro the 10lb braid in Suffix is at a 4lb equivalent mono and the power pro is a 2lb equivalent. That’s where the difference comes from.
I used power pro spectra for 20 years and I recently switched 3 rods to the super slick. The super slick is too soft and flimsy for a spinning real. No doubt that it has more wind knots. I’m junking a 300yd spool today. JUNK
In my experience, Yes! I have recently tried the super slick on my casting gear and after 2 trips I took it off everything I had put it on. The super slick is a somewhat flat line on a bit heavier pound test as odd as that sounds and the line twist is horrid and casting seems to fan a lot more.
@@liquidleblanc1920 also, in my personal experience, not only 8 strand braid (regardless of brand) does not cast as well as 4 strand, but also digs more in itself if it is not spooled super tight, like when you are casting a top water lure and reeling in some slack line. i found rougher 4 strand line to be more forgiving in that situation.
What rod length and what size weight were you throwing....also what action rod? Just trying to compare it to what I throw distance wise at home. Great video. Keep up the good work.
Fish usually bite your lure 10-20m away, long rod & good reel already giving you a good cast distance. what we want is about no line burst when cast, i lost number of lure. That's why i looking to try pp zero impact
Although the manufacturer claims the line diameters between Original, V1 and V2 are the same, I noticed Super Slick V2 is thicker than the Original Powerpro and V1 is thinner than the Original. Your testing results totally make sense that thinner line goes further. I think V2 will be shine in terms of abrasion resistance.
Hello, I am very impressed with the channel and your professionalism. I wanted to ask if you happen to know if POWER PRO has a SUPER SLICK wire with a thickness of 0.41 millimeters? Thanks in advance

I’ve just started using the 832 and I really like it. It feels much rounder and smoother but maybe that doesn’t help with casting distance. My favorite braid is Tuff Line XP.
Very good braid but if you look at the line size between the two the suffix 10 lb braid is double the size of the power pro 10 lb!! Absolutely Love the suffix on my casting gear though 100%,, Seaguar smack down is the same size as the power pro though and very smooth.
So interesting, i personally don't like and use power pro. I have been buying the 8 strand sufix 832 and I love it. not power pro but and 8 strand none the less. You would think the 8 strand being more round and slicker would go threw the line guides smoother and cast farther. Interesting. Cool video man. Gives me allot to think about
Yes!!! Finally someone has proven what I already know. The Power Pro original out perform the Power Pro Slick. The Power Pro original is better for knot tying. Now grant you there are times mono or fluorocarbon are better. When comparing the two Power Pros, the original Power Pro is better and cheaper (unless you get it on sale). At Salt Strong you get a discount, oops, I not sure if I was suppose say that. Anyway, thanks guys, great video. Salt Strong, Texas!!!

100% agree!!! I’ve used power pro for years as I work in a tackle shop and even still have some on a few reels of course but the SMACK DOWN I have been extremely impressed with!! Only downfall is it seems to get a tad frizzy on my casting gear with the 30 lb but I’ve never had an issue on performance in doing so.
Luke...I'm a member. Do we have a video on your casting technique? I'm not casting 100+ feet, regardless of line. Appreciate thoughts from others as well.

It works like a golf ball.
Golf balls have the dimples on the surface to reduce wind drag.
Tight lines!

I'll be doing that test in a couple months after some use.
If the 8 strand weighs more than the 4 strand per unit length, then it might account for these discrepancies.
I like the 4 strands better

Very nice content. I love the testing of products to help consumers know what's best
Thanks for making time to leave the nice comment Ray!

in addition to possibly even slightly more MASS---- i wholeheartedly agree
You are the man! Love your line tests. Whichever ones the are. 👊💪👌😎🎣

Would love to see how maxcuatro compares to these two. Great distance test.
Same here.
Great video - wonder what impact a heavier casting weight would have?
Crazy results. I never would of guessed original would outcast superslick.
Same here, down right shocked. I’ve been using Sufix 832 and it seems so smooth but apparently that doesn’t help with distance. Mind blown.

Thanks for this info. Also, helps me because most of the time in the kayak I am siting in the kayak and trying to cast as far as you can.
Pretty cool video.
I like your scientific approach to testing

Your assistant looks a lot like a crane to me but obviously a good helper👍!!
Nice job and very good to know!
Thanks for watching!
Another great video!! Thanks
Wonder how they compare after some use?

If you like the traditional Power Pro try Maxcuatro
Same
Never had an issue with regular
Do to a reel buying deal, I got free super slick.
Im taking it off today
what if you add about 12 more feet to the green line? Would it make a difference?
Although i’m not using, you got informative and useful tips for every fishing buddies out there..many thanks..🐳🐳🐳
I wonder if you would get the same results using baitcasting reels instead of spinning reels.
In my experience, Yes! I have recently tried the super slick on my casting gear and after 2 trips I took it off everything I had put it on. The super slick is a somewhat flat line on a bit heavier pound test as odd as that sounds and the line twist is horrid and casting seems to fan a lot more.

Great video - question do you see the paint of the braid come off when spooling on reel?
Not much at all, the line coloring is on there good.
In my experience, moon shine fades a little quicker. I think what comes off is the material that glows when exposed to black light.
Great info 💪🏾🎣

Luke, please try Berkley Nanofil vs Ardent Gliss!

Abrasion test coming soon.

Have you tested Suffix 832 and if so, what did you think?

What was the weight of the throw (casting weight)?
Thank You Sir!
You bet!
I bet it’s because the 4-strand has less contact with the spool lip due to the shape of 4-strand vs. 8.
What reels are they
Luke you should do a weight test between the lines. Maybe the standard PowerPro is lighter?
It does feel a bit lighter

Nice test . Like to see one against 15lb seaguar smake down and any other brand braid . I think y’all would switch to seaguar .
100% agree!!! I’ve used power pro for years as I work in a tackle shop and even still have some on a few reels of course but the SMACK DOWN I have been extremely impressed with!! Do Fins Windtamers vs Power Pro Braid 4 Strain.
Will do
wow awesome man
i gave the like
I want my money back...
Does power pro have a manufacturer in china? Because I notice that they are made in china now. I doubt the quality.
lubricated fishing knot versus unlubricated fishing knot
The comparison would have been more relevant if you compared V2 to Maxvuatro, both same material 4 carrier vs 8 carrier.
I think you have to wet the lines first
What if you use a real reel?
I have both spooled up. Not much difference at all.
Luke...I'm a member. Do we have a video on your casting technique? I'm not casting 100+ feet, regardless of line. Appreciate thoughts from others as well.
Hey Mike, here's a link to the casting technique that I use: www.saltstrong.com/articles/dart-cast-tutorial/
hahaha....wth...old PP line cast furtherrrrr
