Mine just came in today from B&H Photo. Got it in army green. Love the roll top as I can custom fit it exactly how I need it. Fits my Canon C70 fully rigged along with my Canon R5C fully rigged. Multiple batteries, lenses, Atomos Ninja V+, sennheiser 416, Manfrotto tripods and sliders. Oh, and the most important part, food! I love this bag. I hope it holds up to the demands over the coming years.
Great video Ian! I just purchased the DV roller to further compliment my x70. Shimoda makes great bags as I own the Explore 60, 35v2, Action x25v2, x50, x70 & Urban Explore 20. Where could I find those very cool Shimoda branded gloves included in the video? 😊
Seen quite a few other reviews, as well from my own use, that zip-in top pouch can be very fussy and a nuisance to fiddle around with. Maybe future model can have just a single flap that zips around to separate top from main storage area. Like right at top of main storage area. 💡
I have the Explore v2 30 and I absolutely love it, but I am planing a bit more outdoor adventures this year and will need more room in the backpack and this looks exactly what I need. Does it fit the base core unit that comes with the Explore? I would say this would be awesome, to just change the core unit from one backpack to the other.
The bag is bigger where the Core Unit sits which means it will fit. But keep in mind it will fit best when packed so the rest of your gear holds it in place, so pack accordingly. All of our bags are made with idea of having a Core you can work around or a bag you pack with different Core Units. The X70 does not do this as good as the others because of its extra size but it still works.
Hi, that was local NY deli made hoagie :) I am not sure if we are doing any local NY shows soon, but if you email ian@shimodadesigns.com I can put you in touch with the NY team and it may be possible arrange a drop-in visit.
This particular size is a 70L bag - so no it's not technically Carry On friendly - with that said I flew from Tokyo to Vancouver with the X70 as Carry On (return) with no issue. It doesn't look that big when packed accordingly. We do have the X50 or X30 for more reliable carry on dimensions. I think a Phase would rest comfortably in one our packs (wish I still had one:) - ian
Just bought my first ever shimoda bag, the X70 & its exactly what I expected, a superb bag and look forward to using it going forward. One question though, did you remove the 2nd padded handle? I only have one on mine which is at the top above the shoulder straps.
I read the DV inserts are framed. Is this frame intended to protect gear or to provide additional stability and stiffness to the bag? Given the long trips I plan to do, maximizing wearing comfort is most important. Nevertheless, I'd be using most of the bag for camping gear rather than photo/video equipment, so I'd be more inclined to use it with a smaller insert. As such, does the XL DV insert provide more wearing comfort compared to the L version, or even to any smaller insert, or are the differences negligable?
All Core Unit except our smallest (S - DSLR) one have frames (as do the backpacks). The Core Unit frame add structural support and distribute weight better in the insert area.
Hi team , I had bought the shimoda x70 starter kit from AMAZON US shimoda store and to my surprise didn't find any helmet holder and rain cover. 😭 Now I am in INDIA and not sure what to do.
The helmet holder will be in the upper compartment sub pockets. And it doesn't come with a Rain Cover. If the helmet holder is not there you should contact the Amazon store you purchased it from. If you have any other questions about your purchase, your best to email directly - ian@shimodadesigns.com Regards
@@ShimodaDesigns please check your Website product specifications as it states that it does comes with rain cover and other add ons I had confirmed with your support the same.

@@ShimodaDesigns What about 5 foot 5? Also does the Medium mirrorless core unit work with this one or would it bounce around given the difference in depth? Keen to buy but these two questions holding me back.
Just curious are the shoulder straps and waist belt on this pack heavier duty and more comfortable than those found on the x50? From the video they appear to have ample padding.
Hello. When I use DV Extra Large unit could I storage 30×15×15(cm) tent on roll top? I couldn't find the size(cm) of roll top except the information that it have 7L. I understand that roll top will shrink when we fasten the buckle.
@@yu5561 Hi, If the diameter of the tent is 15cm and 30cm wide - it should fit. I am sure it will compress a bit on the sides to fit. The tent sounds pretty compact, so another option is to stuff it in the front panel pocket without the stuff sack. I often do this as it IMO it uses available space better (gets in to unused corners). Regarding the L vs XL - if you can fit your gear in the Large DV, I would choose that one. It will give you more options... which is ideal if camping.
I love my X70 big time!!! Im in January traveling again but now even on business class large limitations to what I can bring with me. Onboard its limited to 1 bag (+ headset) with maximum 4 Kg. I then again get 8 extra Kg to check in. I was planning to send my Douchebag Big Bastard and a Peli air. Then bringing a douchebag Hugger backpack and the X70 onboard. Now im looking at maybe sending also the X70. I will make sure all is padded well inside in all directions. But I was wondering if you or anyone have any experience sending the X70 as luggage? Keep making great products :-) @shimodadesigns
If you mean just 'checking in' luggage... People do this all the time with backpacks and I have myself at various times (mostly on development trips with Shimoda bags). The only advice I think that is worth mentioning is tighten the shoulder straps to the max, and do up the sternum strap buckle. Also use your strap keepers to keep loose webbing in place. Finally wrap your belt around the front of the bag to keep the bag tightly packed. - Ian
@@ShimodaDesigns Thanks. Should I include the rain cover and attach it in a way so im sure it stays on? The trip require a 3,5 hour stop over so it will be moved around several times.
@@RuneWold Not really sure what you mean but the rain cover attaches via the belt and top handle - you can also use it unsecured (it's elastic). If you need frequent access to the front and top of your bag, just attach it via the belt.
@@ShimodaDesigns I was thinking if I should leave it on when sending it but I guess if customs want to open the backpack they will leave it loose and the chance it will fall off. The case should be strong on its own 👍🏻

At :46 is the Large DSLR Core Unit.

where and when can I purchase this in the uk?
Can I use just the Medium size core comfortably? Using this bag for more camping gear for multi-days rather than large camera gear.
The bag will likely be more comfortabke as the weight will likely be less. 👍
