The man you noticed was missing, Avi, had to leave the group. They were maintaining such a fast pace with their music and he was overwhelmed. He now makes his own music but at his own pace (10/10 recommend btw).
You cant really go wrong reacting to any of Pentatonix music. Even their live music is amazing, and watching a few of those might help you see how Kevin does the percussion.
Also, Scott and Mitch have their own youtube channel (Superfruit) and they make music for fun. I love their Rihanna Medley

Ok so as much as I absolutely love this cover you really need to react to something more hype like their Daft Punk Medley. Complete vocal techno-wizardry. It won them their first (of 3) Grammy. Also New Rules x Are You That Somebody with the new bass Matt Sallee. It's fire 🔥

Only one member changed. Avi, the bassist (bearded guy in beannie) left the group in 2017 on friendly terms and helped look for replacement. They found Matt Sallee, the bass in The Sound of Silence. Thanks for the reaction. Very time pauses at least for me. Subbed!

There has been only one change. Kevin the "beatboxer" sings, plays 3 instruments (two at Carnegie Hall before Pentatonix: cello and saxophone) and also plays piano.. In his spare time he graduated an Ivy League School and speaks 4 languages including Mandarin Chinese.

Just want to say one thing about Avi leaving - I believe his mother also had cancer at the time and he was flying back and forth from their concert locations to be with his mother then fly back in time for their next concert. So the combination of everything was just too much. I appreciate that he helped them find Matt. Matt is not Avi, but he is Avi approved. :o) And Avi's solo stuff is SO DIFFERENT from Pentatonix and SO GOOD. His covers are amazing. I believe he wrote all the lyrics and music to his original songs as well as performing them. I could be wrong. But when you listen to them you can see how much he needs to be in nature and you do NOT get that in cities or theaters or on buses or in airplanes. I am kind of amazed that he stayed as long as he did, in a way. LOL

Okay, 3rd PTX reaction?? I’m subscribed!! Let’s Go!!
A lot of us have been listening to this group for years and forget what it’s like to hear them for the first time and can not remember how it can be hard to understand how unbelievable it is to know that they do all of this with their voices. I feel ya though. It’s hard to wrap your head around. Guess you’ll just have to react to some more 😆
I think a great video watch would be their “Evolution of Michael Jackson”. This video is LIVE!!! You’ll get a great look at just how sick they are with transitions between songs, and just how amazingly talented and integral each of their part in this group is.
(This is an older video with their original bass member, Avi.)

Sorry that many of us Pentaholics' can get a bit over protective when it comes to Pentatonix criticisms.
But if you want views and subscribers, we can help you.
Should check out the 3 videos of the 3 songs that won them Grammys.
Daft Punk, a mashup of the electronic duo Daft Punk. Won them their first Grammy. Then the other 2 songs are Dance of the sugar plum fairy, and Jolene, an original by Dolly Parton, featuring Dolly Parton herself.
To answer your question about Kevin, the group's beatboxer. In the studio, as well as, occasionally on stage, Kevin uses a beat board, a flat panel that records his stomps and or taps. He sometimes has it on the ground, or wears it on his chest, under his coats/shirts.

There has only been one change in personnel over almost a decade together. Scott, Kirstin and Mitch are the original three who have been best friends singing together since Jr. High. When they entered the 'Sing Off!' competition, they picked up Kevin (the beatboxer, who also plays cello and has a beautiful tenor voice) and Avi, the Basso Profundo. In 2017, Avi left the group, having been physically worn out by the constant touring, and to spend time with his Mother, who had cancer. No bad feelings at all - Avi actually scouted for and recruited Matt to take his place.

You commented about Avi vs Matt: Avi started with the group many years ago when they first formed to participate in the show "The Sing-Off" - basically an a capella contest. They won the contest in the show's 3rd season. As they gained popularity, the touring schedule become too hard for Avi, who was dealing with a sick parent. Reluctantly he bowed out of the group but not before finding them his replacement, Matt. Avi left the group on friendly terms. He now has a separate career as a "basso profundo" on his own TH-cam channel. And this is indeed a rare recording where Kevin not only gets to beat-box, he gets to sing - as a tenor. You might not have yet run into his videos where he plays cello. Kevin is a multi-talented man.

I don't know if you're aware, but Scott, Kirstie & Mitch all grew up fairly close to you in Arlington. They have known each other since they were children, began performing together in musical theater productions, then went to high school together and performed in the school choir. They formed an a cappella group called The Trio and performed at school functions and had a couple of videos go viral on TH-cam. Scott & Kirstie were a class year ahead of Mitch, and after graduation they each went to college (Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma, both majoring in music). With Scott living in L.A., he found out about the TV singing contest The Sing Off and secured them an audition, so they reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation for it). But they found out that The Sing Off required each group to have at least five members. They recruited Avi through a mutual friend and found Kevin through his TH-cam channel. The whole group all got together for the first time just one day before the audition! Not only did they pass the audition, they won the contest that season. One of the prizes was a recording contract, so they all moved to Los Angeles and rented three apartments right next to each other...but just a few days later they lost the contract because the label backed out at the last minute, fearing an a cappella group would not be commercially successful. So they started recording their own music and posting it on TH-cam. That led to a contract with RCA...and numerous albums, millions in sales and three Grammys later, the rest is history. Being a native Texan myself, I'm really proud of what they've accomplished. But I'm also rather embarrassed to say that as a Classic Rock guy, I never heard of them until the pandemic began and I stumbled across their Hallelujah video. I have since become a dedicated Pentaholic and have gotten ahold of all their albums. Truly remarkable artists.

Since the Sing Off, which is when we first saw Pentatonix, there has only been one change up. Avi Kaplan, who was the original bass of the group, left, because he couldn't keep up with the schedule that Pentatonix had. He needed to be able to spend more time at home with his family. Avi's leaving was amicable, and he's now doing his own projects at his own pace (you should see Change on the Rise), But Matt took his place. Matt has a beautiful voice. He's not Avi, but then I don't think anyone expects him to be.

  • @mecfstraveler

One member is a Jewish man and two members are Christians and two members are gay. I know before each performance on tour in the early days they said a group prayer and the new guy is a Christian but they don't preach it they're just really nice people and that niceness shines right through. Can't put a label on decency in a person's heart, and you cannot say that because somebody is gay they are not a Christian . I just saying they don't advertise themselves as a Christian group . But they love the harmonies that come from choral type of music and a lot of Christmas music lends to that style. Since they all have backgrounds in acapella choir , except for Kevin, they love to do the songs with the really complex harmonies and you're going to find it in choral pieces.
The best way to avoid getting copyrighted or blocked is to list the article about fair use in the information under your reaction and put a link back to the original video and the next important thing is pause that video and make a comment then rewind back to before you paused so it can build back up again and let it play and then pause when something else noteworthy comes up. Wash, rinse, repeat . Pretty much across-the-board Reactors need to pause or they get copyrighted and blocked by Sony Music Entertainment.
Before Pentatonix went with RCA as a label they NEVER had a problem with people reacting to their music because that's how TH-cam works and this is where Pentatonix was born and they worked their butts off for years and couldn't have made it without their patrons and fans on TH-cam. they ended up becoming Grammy winning gold and platinum selling artists and to this day they talk about their dedication to and their love and appreciation for their fans because they say this would not be possible for them if it wasn't for the fans that stuck with them and funded them through patreon! They love their fans and they're very humble and do not like when fans don't have access to the music and reactors are part of TH-cam and the music created and aired on TH-cam ! Pentatonix members have been known to watch reactors and to tell them "Hey man, thank you so much for watching our video and reacting to it! We truly appreciate it!" After they became famous! . So we want to share it with you and us fans and the group doesn't want you getting blocked! it's the dang label doing it so pause, pause, pause. I'll try to be aware of songs that are getting blocked right now I don't think Mary did you know is dangerous territory because it's not the Christmas season. But when that time rolls around I can pretty much guarantee Sony Music Entertainment is going to start copyright striking people again for reacting to Christmas music if there aren't enough pauses and that fair use part of the copyright law isn't listed with a link back to the original. If you're not sure where to find that copyright fair use statement there are a lot of reactors to Pentatonix that have it listed and it's you could just copy and paste it verbatim! I really appreciate what you're doing thank you so much

They did an emotional video with Avi explaining how he needed to slow down but didn't want to slow down the pace or success of the group. Another commented about his mother's health though not everyone knew that Avi's sister was their road manager. They would take off after every show and fly home to see her. Avi really enjoys nature and it is his source of comfort. Remember Avi was a friend of a friend and very supportive of each other. PTX will remain a group as long as Scott can focus and grow. Scott and Mitch met when they were 10 years old and Mitch met Kirsten when he was 7. They went to the same school. High School Drama Class created Pentatonix. Avi does his own videos and worked with others as well. Kevin does Crazy Beatbox while playing the cello. Kirsten and her dog Olaf have been in Disney films but the the Pentatonix Always comes first.

The guy you noticed missing in the 2019 video is the base from the original lineup. His name is Avi Kaplan and it was very very upsetting when he left because every member of this group is irreplaceable. Nobody can be Avi. But he had to leave because being away from family and friends nearly year round was really sending him into what appeared to be a spiral of of depression and I don't know if that's a fact I just know what it look like was happening and he started losing weight I just didn't look healthy or happy anymore. So he said he just could not keep up that pace that they have always gone at in order to get as much work done as they have and get as far as they have but he needs family friends have the ability to chill in the woods where he is at peace. His mother also was battling cancer at the time. It was heart-wrenching and the group was obviously torn up badly about it but there's never been any unkind words said and people have understood his decision. Now they could have thrown in the towel but Avi and their producer Ben Bram search to find a base that they thought would be right for the group and would be a good fit with their personalities because these people are together nearly every day of the year because they are always on tour. And that's where Matt came from. Matt does not have the same skillset Avi does and Avi doesn't have the exact same skillset Matt does. So we miss Avi at the same time I have learned to love another member and what they bring to the group. But sometimes I think we feel like we're bipolar going through this because reactors jump back and forth through their material based on fan recommendations and we're constantly revisiting the old days and it hits you again that Avi is gone from the group and the songs they did with him don't sound the same with somebody else singing obbys part which is just logical but we also have several years of new music that hardly anybody has reacted to. I think it's so important to mix old music with some of their new numbers. But that's just my style of doing it. I listen to all of their music and I am glad they were able to find a way to evolve and grow so that the group could continue because they're doing some really good stuff right now and last year they did a stadium tour or is it Auditorium tour? But they performed Madison Square Garden and they were absolutely Starstruck and sick to their stomachs shaking with nerves crying when they're trying to sing from the emotion of not believing they were really performing in Madison Square Garden. So yeah there is that one lineup change and it happened in 2017. but that is the only change there has ever been to the group and that one change was one change to Manny and I hope we never ever have to go through anything like that again because I don't know if they're going to get lucky twice.

It’s probably been said multiple times but you mentioned how smooth Scott’s singing is (the taller white guy) and you’re so right! His range is absolutely ridiculous though. With the original members Avi (“Jesus”) was the bass and in my opinion, he’s the best around but when he’s singing lead, Scott takes the bass part. It’s amazing that he can do that.

So many recommendations to make, so little time!
Kevin Olusola (the beatboxer) is also a soloist/celloist/mixer... I haven't seen a lot of his videos myself, but you'd probably like his YT channel, since you seem to really love his beatboxing. :)
Avi Kaplan, as others have mentioned, left the group to pursue a solo career, and was replaced by Matt Sallee. Avi also has his own channel; I'm especially blown away by his "Change on the Rise."
The two other guys (Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi) also have their own channel called "Superfruit" - their cover of "Rise" is amazing.
As for PTX... well, as others said, you can't really go wrong. They're ALL great! But if you want to hear them live, one thing you may want to check out is "Aha" live in Singapore. I'm also partial to their "Radioactive" collab with Lindsay Stirling. :)

For those who don't know who Mary is, she is Mother Mary who gave birth to Jesus in Bethlehem , the Lamb of God. You did this reaction in June. Since then I see calls to watch it from Voctave. Every year Mark Lowery releases a new version of Mary Did You Know with him as the lead. Mark continues to work on how to sing the song to bring out the meaning of the message. It would be fascinating to see you point that out. If they doubled the voices here, imagine Voctave with multiple voices in each register.
IMO this version is singing to Mary. When Mark sings, he is not questioning Mary because she pondered all these events in her heart as God reveals (present tense) Himself to humans, His children and all the earth, beginning with the stable. He blesses Mary to make Himself more relatable to us as our Father to all races throughout the world. If it is too much of the same song in one year, remember it and don't forget to do it next year with Voctave, please. You can tell it tired Mark to sing it the way he did (diagnosed with MS). Check it out.

Kevin, is an amazing artist. When the group first started, Kevin wasn't sure of his voice, and didn't think he could sing at the other member's level. With coaching and encouragement, we get to hear Kevin's voice. Kevin's version of Cyndi Lauper's song True Colors, although his voice has a heavy electronic vibe to it, you can still hear his voice coming through. The whole vibe and visuals of the video are amazing as well. Thank you for a great reaction.

Avi Kaplan was with the group from 2012 to 2017. Then Matt Sallee took over from then to the present.

Avi is the only member who has left, otherwise the group has been doing this since they were in high school. They are truely amazing.

Glad you are doing your research my friend! Like I said PTX fans stick together and are loyal. Also you are looking at music from their Christmas Album. This is a much older vid. One 1 member changed, Avi (the Bass). He actually helped choose Matt ( the new Bass). Try to go in chronological order as much as possible if you can. You will better understand them. Kevin (the Beatboxer) sings beautifully. Avi (the Bass) is a classical singer and helped train him in singing. Kevin is extremely talented, singing, plays many instruments, speaks multiple languages fluently, classically trained in cello and beatboxes at the same time. There is A LOT, you have to learn. And we are here for you.

Check out their string of performances from The Sing Off TV show. They literally just got together, aside from the 3 leads. You can see them progress and get as a group. Kevin and Avi continuously blow away the judges. All live too. The original 3 were only 19 at the time.

If you have time, you can watch all their performances on Sing Off. If you like Queen, watch Bohemian Rhapsody. Avi left the group and is doing a solo act now.

Pentatonix was the Season 3 winner on the "Sing Off..." an a capella competition. There is a video that has all of their Sing Off performances...about a 1-1/2 hours all together. It shows how the group came together and shows their growth as a group. You should check it out.

You should try Superfruit. They are made up of Mitch and Scott from Pentatonix and are great! Try Empire medley, Beyoncé medley, Ariana Grande medley or their anti medley. All great.

Avi Kaplan left to pursue a solo career. They brought in Matt, forgive me I don't know his last name. However Matt's a graduate of Berkeley school of music and is classically trained. Kevin Oseulo, is a Yale graduate and had been accepted into Yale School of Medicine. His parents emigrated from Nigeria and spared nothing for his education. He plays a number of instruments, Pentatonic's found him on TH-cam. He also speaks I think 4 languages, one being Mandarin Chinese. I dislike people thinking he's "just a beat boxer ". The other 3, Scott, Mitch and Kirsten are the core group who met in high school.

If you want to know the creative process - check out some of the videos from The Sing-Off, season 3... That was basically how the group started out, & they won the season.
    And Kevin isn't just a beat boxer - he's a "beat-cellist" in some songs. That's a hell of a sound!

"Homey" (a.k.a. Kevin Olusola) not only beat boxes and sings, he has perfect pitch, he composes, speaks five languages (including Chinese Mandarin) fluently, plays concert level cello and saxophone, and has a pre-med degree from Yale. Yeah, he's a superstar.

If you want to see PTX at their most amazing, check out their cover of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" ... you may have problems believing what you're seeing/hearing!
BTW, they do a fair amount of 'religious music' partly because of their Christmas albums and partly because they like to do popular/'deep' pieces, so ...

They *don't* have a christian background; only two of the originals are explicitly christian. But - and i am NOT christian, but buddhist - christian music like carols and especially really early music is absolutely gorgeous and a joy to sing. (And carols done well always sell. PTX does everything well!)

You need to watch an evolution video so you can really see Kevin (the beatboxer) do his thing. You could do the evolution of Michael Jackson, evolution of Rhianna, or evolution of Beyonce.
