    There is another one. If your brush doesn't draw check if there is an empty texture into the "Texture Properties" Section (The lowest button in the right bar). If there is an empty texture - remove it.

    Hey, I know it's 3 years later, but thanks for making this. I'm not even new to blender, and I'd already found all 6 of those stupid things elsewhere, along with probably 6 more searching top to bottom for this issue, I've spent the last 2 hours trying to solve this, creating new test files and everything.
    Right at the end of your video you threw in that stylus' throw off the texture painting, I was testing a stylus earlier today, and that was the issue. I restarted blender and it works now.

    Here's another tip that worked for me. I was able to see my painted textures only in Solid Mode. They were not visible, nor could I paint on the model in Material preview or Rendered modes (but I could paint on them in the image editor, they just wouldn't show on the model). I Deleted all of the UV Maps under Object Data properties FOR THAT OBJECT (for some reason there were several). In edit mode I cleared all seams, then I made new seams and unwrapped again.

    Thanks for these tips. I still can't make it work, though. So, after one has checked all six things and still can't paint? What next? For example, the pen does not make any mark, even though I was able to make a couple of accidental marks 2 minutes ago, what should you do? Maybe the best option would be to export the uv map, and use it in Gimp or Krita to try and guess where you want to paint. Sort of like painting blind folded. Thanks. Blender 2.93 on Windows.

    Thanks for the great tuto, it would be great if you cut everything to pieces, i'm sure there are only newbies watching this like me, and boy oh boy from our perspective everything is so easy to confuse, forget since there is alot to take in. When explaining it would be so good to find the root of every action you make, for an example you spoke about adding buttons to your favorite, how do you do that? I have been searching for 20 minutes where to find the flip button but couldn't find it, since you had it in your favorite you didn't show us where to get it. Probably you showed it at the end of the video but again (Alot to take in and easy to forget) So i didn't bother.
    Thanks alot for your efforts, keep it up!

    • @JHansenArt
      @JHansenArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are two reasons this might be happening that come to mind. The most likely is that your UV wrapping has overlapping islands. Try "Smart Project" and turn up the margin. Your bleed might also be turned up too high. Try somewhere between 2 and 5 px. Hope that helps!

  • @quadgon
    @quadgon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One thing that I don't understand, and maybe you know why and how to fix is, how do you paint using stencils with a Texture slot that's got an Alpha set to zero?
    What I'm trying to do is to paint minute details using a "dirt" brush on a transparent layer a top of another colored layer. Nothing happens. I have to have a colored layer with alpha set to one in order to pain the dirt details on.
    This is frustrating as this is how I'm used to working in Photoshop, where I can manipulate the background colors and the dirt separately after I've painted it in, where as with Blender I have to "do it right the first time" so to speak.
    Strangely enough it's (of course) really simple to paint and smudge on a transparent layer, but when I switch to stencil it somehow is dependent on "physical" layer to paint on.

    I have a different issue with painting and although this video was certainly helpful, it did not solve my problem.
    I made this character in blender that looks a bit like the minecraft guy. Very blocky, yet with smoothend edges.
    Now i can paint his chest, but not the sides of his arms. I can pain the top of his head, but not the sides of the head. Whenever i want to add colour to his face, i get nothing, unless i paint the top/bottom edge of the face, but then the entire face gets painted. Long vertical lines that are painted on his face.
    I think this has to do with the unwrapping, and that my model did not get unwrapped properly, like his face is a single line when unwrapped.... or something like that.
    Do you have a solution to this?

    • @JHansenArt
      @JHansenArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I sure do! If you are getting long vertical lines, then the scale of the unwrap is 0 in one direction. In other words, your "face" face is unwrapped at a straight line. Try selecting your whole mesh, pressing U, and choosing "Smart Project" and see if you can fix that unwrap :) Alternatively, if you send me the blend file, I can try and unwrap it

    Allow me to add another one that i keep falling for:
    When you paint something, then change the Blend Mode to Erase Alpha in order to erase what you did and forget to change it back to the original mode. Basically you'll be erasing instead of painting and it usually wastes some considerable time and nerves before i figure it out!

    Texture painting wouldn’t work in these cases:
    o The wrong object is selected. You can switch to the object you want by hovering over it and pressing “Alt+Q”.
    o You have no texture or the wrong texture set in the texture slot (Texture Slots dropdown menu in the header - Do not confuse with “Texture” which concerns the brush texture)
    o If the brush has a black texture (it does nothing). Make sure that you don’t have a black texture set to the brush (in the header or under Brush settings).
    o If the Brush is not selected
    o If the brush has a Blend mode that wouldn’t show (make sure it’s set to “Mix”)
    o If normal are flipped and “Backface Culling” is turned on under “options” in the header. Check this by activating “Face orientation” in the overlays menu. It’s preferable to go in Edit mode and flip the normal.

    texture painted a whole face and came back after saving and it wasn’t there … super demotivating tbh. is there any easier way to create faces for models without literally editing the character ?

  • @ted_van_loon

    Hi I am having some problem where also with all those things checked it does not draw anything. the object is set right, the faces, the texture in the drawing interface and in the shader, the uvmap. I am using the left mouse button. and in old versions this always worked, however now since 2.9.3 it just doesn't work on any object anymore.

      I updated blender and everything works now(updated from blender 2.93.4 to blender 3.0).
      I really spend much to long to try to figure it out, and should have tried to updating it more early. however it resulted in me finding this place where tutorials are about teaching instead of exactly following the steps.

    Nice video, but i have a problem, i've painted my texture and it's showing in eevee but not in cycles,why??

    • @JHansenArt
      @JHansenArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooh that’s a tricky one- it might be that you are using nodes that cycles doesn’t support, try connecting your image texture directly to Material Output with nothing in between. Also if you send me your blend file I can take a look at it :)

    Wow I think I was going crazy belive me or not I'm using blender for over year, and have really weird problems with texture paint from time to time I think I knew all of them till now but today I was searching for solution for yet 1 more problem and I cant belive what the fk was that, Maybe a bug and it looks like a bug. Ill explain it now. I was unable to paint whatever I do I know what I do i change textures etc everything even was desperate to try and change Evee with Cycles and back absolutely nothing help/changing textures in shading tab multiple times everything creating new images. I know its not from UV also. or from normals too. And you know what fixed this? on The texture paint tab on the left part of the windows (image editor) I removed the image there with the X and put exactly the same image there and WTF it worked. Its some kind of refresh or I don't know what was that but I was trying to fix this for an hour... Forgot to mention this is Blender 4.0 and still bugging texture paint.

    None of that worked for me. I am new to blender and this is killing me. It was working initially, then stopped. The difference is that i changed the uv ... could that have changed something ?
