A glaring omission from this review is the superb comic performance of Sir Michael Hordern.

And Trevor Howard. They both had memorable performances. I love Howard's line: "I once had a chap brought to me who'd been caught stealing from the Mess. I ordered that each alternate finger nail be removed, and do you know, I still get a Christmas card from him every year."

Wonderful video - thank you. I'll be watching this film soon as Michael Palin is just one of my favourites!!

I re-watched this last night. It's very expensive looking, just the opening montage in Kenya must have cost a bomb. I can't imagine the film made a great deal of money for Handmade. The art direction is excellent. Trevor Howard revisits his role of Sir Henry at Rawlinson End. The scenes are all very short which means it whips along, however at less than 90 minutes it felt short and ends a bit abruptly. The acting is excellent all round. Especially Trevor Howard and Michael Hordern.

Hilarious film. I myself often pretend to be Charles Fortesque ... running a " refuge for fallen women" in Whitechapel. With a serious face, I am convincing. Gives me an unbeatable thrill.

Why isn't this film available anywhere? Is it banned?!?!

I'll be honest, I haven't seen it, but for Palin at his best my personal choice is Ripping Yarns. I put that alongside the very best of British comedy such as Blackadder, Harry Enfield, The Fast Show and of course Monty Python.

is there any evidence that Palin has intimate relations with the fallen women?
