  • In 1972, the Faraday School kidnapping shocked Australia as two plasterers, Edwin Eastwood and Robert Boland, abducted six young girls and their teacher for a $1 million ransom. Four years later, the exact same thing happened at Wooreen School.

They really were. Has that ever been explained? It read like a joke, which you'd think is the last thing a ransom note writer would want, when trying to be taken seriously and get their money.

Other than the fact that the guy who did it got out of prison, that’s probably about the happiest ending we could’ve hoped for from a story like that. Glad none of the kids were harmed!

It should not be understated Robin Smith's heroism in the second story. My Grandad was a councillor at the time and had a gun licence. He was sworn in - given a weapon and made a police officer for one day. He was hanging out the car firing at the tyres. Pretty insane, he also told me that one of the truck drivers unfortunately was traumatised and never was the same. There are caves in the bush they were caught in, it's thought Eastwood was trying to get to them.

This reminds me of the Chowchilla California kidnapping of 1976. For those that don't know its when three men took a school bus driver and 26 children hostage and buried them alive in a box truck for 16 hours.
The three kidnapers were given life sentences at first but then there sentences were overturned because an appellate court ruled the injuries of the victims wasnt serious bodily harm because the bus driver and kids just had a few cuts and bruises. But the men were resentenced to life in prison but were eventually paroleed and are out of prison today.

This type of crime should be sentenced more harshly. She stole tens of millions of dollars from her own community. Because of her greed her community suffered. Why treat someone with complete lack of respect and compassion for her community, with kid gloves. For every Million she stole she should be in prison for without the possibility of early release. Just because she’s a woman and had no priors doesn’t mean she should get leniency. Throw the book at these thieves. Had she robbed a bank she would have gotten way more time. Stealing is stealing doesn’t matter how you do it. I hate people like this. Complete lack of morals and integrity, only stealing money for her own personal benefit and gain. Then blowing it on a hobby that you rarely break even on if you win.
