I have the same exact system. All I got it for was CarPlay I didn’t need the extra that other systems have. And it wasn’t expensive like others.
Same reason I got mine as android auto was all I needed, it's still holding up right now
Did any of you had audio problems at first? I installed mine yesterday but I don’t get any audio output. Did I miss a setting?
@@marahauser6059you have to be in aux from your original system if not connect an audio cable to the Linux head unit
@@marahauser6059use bluethooh
Hi, cool helpful video. But can you tell me. I see you have your music showing with your maps. So I guess you can listen to your music while the maps are running. But can you listen to the radio when your maps are running. Thanks
Is it always laggy when browsing around android auto? Like i can see on the video? Or it gets smother?
Thanks you
Linux is an operating system
Linux is a guy.
He gave his name to an OS.
My whole reason for watching the video was to see how the Linux system matched up with my BMW (F30/335i) because I wasn’t sure if the power connector plugged into the back of the screen or control unit. The fact that your entire install was done off screen (blocked from camera view) didn’t help at all or answer any of the questions you posed at the beginning.
How did you code your car from the 6.5 to fit the 8.8/10.25?
Great video, looks excellent value. What is the sound quality like bluetooth through the linux system?? (I'm assuming you have the Harmon Kardon in your 1er??)
is there any hack to install apps on it?😅
I'm not sure but I would lean over to no as it solely runs off your phone
@@MickyleMcgowan yeah but running on linux it might be able to support installing other apps through a laptop
Hello my friend, does it goes automatically to android auto when you start your car (one you’ve already configurated it) or do you need to press android auto in the Linux menu each time you go in the car ?
You need to select android auto/carplay every time you start the system
Dang. Is there a way around this? Maybe in the factory settings to default to one of the options?
What version did you purchase? As there is different versions available at different prices ?
Can you mirror the phone screen to the car screen? iPhone airplay?
Can you help me please , when I put it in reverse no camera image popping out , i have a manual gearbox ( how you wired the camera?)
When you start the car, go to factory settings on your new screen, then do a hard reset so that it recognizes the OEM camera and that's it.
When I put in reverse nothing happens, 🤔 any ideas why?
Thanks for the video!
How long does it usually take to boot up?
With the current android screen i have its like 20-30 seconds, might make the switch to this.
interested on this as well please!!!!
This take about 3 o 4 secs
Question for you. I have this same system. Wondering if there is a way so when you turn on the car it just defaults to wireless carplay so you don’t have to get the menu where it shows wired carplay and android auto etc and then you have to tap wireless car play. Would be nice if the car could just be set to default to wireless carplay.
I have it and when I start my car it automatically connects my iPhone to CarPlay, everything is in the factory settings, go in there and put the code 8866
Nice vid, exactly what I was looking for! The scrolling on Android Auto looked a little slow and jerky though, was it any worse or better than on your old android screen? Also do you find the screen hard to see in the sun as its glossy? I don't know why these companies insist on making them with gloss screens, it's so annoying.
Thanks for watching bro 👊🏾, the screens really responsive tbh I can't fault it, I wouldn't compare them as the android system is very different with the Linux one it solely runs off your phone, in the direct sunlight it's been spot on
its an android auto thing, had the same. Changed phone to iphone and carplay is flying
My controller doesn’t work on the original system when the engine is on but does on the new one ?
The newer works
What is the boot up time?
Hi Mick, Did you need to use the AUX in the end ?
No it just plays through the system as normal you still have to select aux on the Idrive but you don't need the physical wire
@@MickyleMcgowan
Thanks bro 😎
Can you disable the camera screen at 6:05 to show up if you dont have a rear camera ?
yes you can
Do you have issue to parasitic power drain after installing this screen?
no not at all, there was no issues
Thanks for the very informative video! Looking for an alternative to Android head unit as well. Just a few questions. Does the backup camera image pop up as soon as you start the car and put it in reverse? Or do you have to wait until the Linux system has started up? How much time does start up take actually? And what about your DVR? Normally that requires an APK to be installed on the Android head unit. How does this work on Linux?
Hey bro, glad this video helped, you don't need to wait so if you were to put the car in reverse straight away the image would pop up, for me the system always starts up straight away, no apks were needed
@@MickyleMcgowan Great news, thanks! So what is the startup time of the Linux system, more or less?
From my experience it's been instant, it'll always start on the idrive side so you have to tap the screen or hold down the menu button
@@MickyleMcgowan That sounds good, thanks!
Just bought one like this, but the upper part of the screen is cutting the ui a little bit, do you know if this is adjustable?
Is this on the Linux side or the Bmw side?
@@MickyleMcgowan On the linux side, when i enter spotify for example, the top part cuts the icons
Does this screen work with Idrive know and steering wheel buttons?
Yeah so you can use the steering wheel controls with the unit also you still have full use of the original idrive system
Hello I have the same screen. My idrive screen is stretched. Can you tell me how to code it so it's not stretched? I already have bimmmer code. I'm just not sure what options to choose.
Did your idrive work stright away? It's just a blank screen for me
@@BG-xo4jm no at first it didn't. That block harness(I'm not sure of the actual name) that plugs into the back of the box with cd player was not fully pressed in. I thought it was but after I push a little hard I realized it wasn't. The fit is a little different then the original so it takes a little more force to push it in all the way.
@@HoustonisFiredid you fix the coding if you did how did you do it
Is the startup instant with the Linux screen. My old bmw had an android screen and it took a while to boot up each tome which bothered me and if its not as fast as my oem screen then I probably wont want to upgrade
Can defo say it's instant, you automatically start up on the BMW side so it's like the OEM system, I used to have a android screen and that was annoying at times
@@MickyleMcgowan thanks. I just installed mine but it wont connect to CarPlay for some reason. Just says connect and then says remove device
Hey, I'd like to buy the exact same linux screen for my 2 series (F22) - I'm trying to find out from the aliexpress seller about the aux thing but it's not getting anywhere :D. Does the aux have to be plugged into the jack in the centre armrest or is it all behind the screen wiring? Thanks
No aux is needed it'll work through the harness
@@MickyleMcgowan Cheers
I just installed one of these identical to yours. Thanks for the video as I couldn't find the pin code for setting it up. I'm having audio issues with mine, the head unit seems to only put out mono not stereo so I don't get all the sound (e.g. vocal tracks missing)
@@stevieboy1984did you fix it?
@@EpicGamer-wo5xw yes I did thanks. There was a cable that I needed to plug together in the bundle of cables and now it's all good!
is this 8.8 or 10.25?
10.25
How did you coded from 6.5 to 8.8?
I used bimmercode to do it
Hey! What settings did you use coz I have the same challenge but the screen is showing half black!

what happened to your compact?
I sold it unfortunately, I do want another one down the line
Hi Mick, is it possible to mirror your Handydisplay to the Linux Screen?
Hi Mick, nice upgrade. Could I use this to replace the stock screen in my 4 to have a bigger screen?
Hey thanks bro yes there's 3/4 series options on the page also if you have a look on my channel I used to own a 4 series and I made an android screen video
I ende up getting this one but if it doesn't work better if I cant find an update for it I'm sending it back for the android system with split screen more features. Also can you please let me know if you were able to update the firmware?
What wasn't working on it? No I've left it as it is and I haven't had any issues
@@MickyleMcgowan the right and left speaker be acting weird I think it's shorting out or it's the harness
You fixed it?
Can you use the speakers for the map voice? I can't hear them, I didn't install the AUX, could that be the problem?
Yes you must instalki AUX cable
Hey, when you are using android auto and getting a call from Someone do you answer the call from Android auto ? And if yes does it use the oem mic ?
You can use the screen or the button on the steering wheel to answer and yes it uses the OEM mic
Hi man, great video!!! I just bought the same Linux Screen. Have you updated the software yet? Do you know the password for the WiFi network of the screen? Best regards!
Hey bro thanks for watching the vid, I haven't updated it at all I just installed it and left it how it is, I didn't have to enter any form of password so I'm not aware
What's the difference between the Linux and Android ones? Any issues with the mic?
Linux runs off your phone (android auto/carplay) and the android screen uses android os
I bought the device but no sound is coming out. Where are you based on? If I come can you fit it for me please
Same here. No sound or idrive screen
Did you figure you issue? I had to make sure the connector that goes to the screen was completely inserted. I had to put duct tape on it to secure bc it doesn't stay in by it self. I also had to reconnect the large plug I don't know the official name of it but it wasnt fully inspected into the box.
@@HoustonisFirego to factory settings. Type 8866 and look for “aux switching mode” and make sure “automatic” is selected.
Did u get this sorted I have the same issue
