I must be living in a cave as I have never even heard of the Millar brand. At first glance they reminded me of a Mainland uke but their sound quality and clarity is wonderful! Something about the first sound sample I fell in love with. It is different from any of my other ukuleles. I haven’t purchased a new ukulele in over three years but it may be time. Thank you for another great video, Alex. Wes
Thanks Alex, really love the rosewood model. Was dieing to hear the sound sample, so thanks for this. Millar defiantly make ukes that you wish you had. Roll on Christmas. Been playing this video right in front of my wife. Here’s wishing. Have a great weekend.
This was another great video Alex. If I was primarily a Strummer that plays it home or in ukulele groups I would choose the first model for its looks and sound when being strummed. If I was a performer doing gigs I would choose the second model for its sparkle in the high end and projection. However, I play primarily classical pieces or chord melody arrangements for my own enjoyment at home so the last model would be my choice for its full and balanced sound and individual note clarity when playing. Keep up the great work.🙂
That point about the Bolivian rosewood / Pau Ferro is really interesting. The wood Millar use really looks like rosewood with that dark colour but, then again, I've never seen anyone make an all solid rosewood ukulele or instrument in general, so there has to be something to it. Millar really are a fantastically quirky company. I've seen a uke from them made from all solid Cypress. Can't really get more original than that, can you?
Alex, I know this vid is 2 years old, but I gotta ask: how does Millar get a string to loop over the bridge and saddle instead of twisting it? Inquiring minds…
I may have found my Uke, the CD 260W! THE nut width of 35, how is that with chunky fingers. Is there another with 38 you'd recommend that is similar sounding?
The nut width is narrow but the neck profiles are chunkier and have almost a flat point on the back... I like wider nut widths and I've owned two Millars now without complaint
A lot of people feel that way about the rope binding. One useful bit of feedback I can give is that in the flesh it looks great because its so consistent... lots of big factory ukes do rope binding and it looks really sloppy up close.
How would you say these Millars compare with Anuenue? Which one has a warmer sound? Talking the AKK - I hope I got that right. The mid-range mahogany one. Or even the moonbird, which seems to be in a higher range?
I've been asked this before. It's a great question... The Millars mainly sit between the £300-700 price point and they compare favourably to many against the Kala, Snail Flight, Ponos because they feel more like a really polished workshop made instrument for the price. When you move up to stuff in that £500-1200 price point the standard is understandably higher and the Millars hold their own against things like Big Island, Romero Creations, Rebel etc but the names I've just mentioned feel a bit more 'polished" in how they are made. I would include the AnueNue AKK in this... The moonbird is at least £500 more expensive than the equivalent Millar model so it's an unfair comparison really... sound wise the Millar wouldn't shame itself however, the neck and aesthetic of the Moonbird is probably a step or two above the Millar.
Oh I have found a New love , Millar Rosewood . "Tall dark and Handsome " I have a twist on your three words to describe your Uke . How about a tune from your repetoise that suits the Uke . I kept thinking 'Sitting on the Dock of the Bay' .for Tall dark and handsome . What think you .?

Haha I do that too... gentle product placement on the TV youtube app.
Thanks for watching
I love the Bolivian cedar, Bolivian rosewood!
Thanks Alex. Love these videos!
Also my ukuleles are brilliant from you guys! Thankyou!

I would love one of these instruments. A bit out of my price range though. They sound amazing. Thanks for this Alex.
The satin finish ones are lower in price, may be within your price range.
@@SmallUkeBigWorld Thank you
Alex you are a very patient person. I really like low G tuning with unwound strings. Is this possible? on a millar uke.
Absolutely, I'd get something a bit higher tension like worth CH-LG 😉
Love your videos.
Thanks

Love the Millars - for me, I'd prefer a 38mm nut width. Thanks Alex.
That would be glorious
I really appreciate your videos 😊
Thank you!
The Acacia back is really beautiful - the rope binding could be more restrained (that's just me ) but it sounds lovely !

@@SouthernUkuleleStore I think this one sounded best, more sparkly ! Thanks , always , Alex !

@@SouthernUkuleleStore and what if compared with the ANUENUE AMM3 one (cheaper than the AKK....)? thanks
Which one would you choose for a low g? :-)
The Cedar for me...

I think the CD260W just edges it.
How about a Millar pineapple mango?
I've not seen a pineapple from this company... Great idea though.
