    'Nobody can figure out how to run a clutch anymore' 😂 One of the best theft deterrents too is to have a manual car!

      before or after they leave it in gear on the start, and drive through your garage/trailer wall?

      Thank God for Prostock & competition eliminator. 👍👍👍👍 but Promodified needs to be manually shifted with 3 or 4 speed lencos

      @@magnus5356 Buy a Saab and it's mandatory you park it in gear to take the key out. lol
      You have to press the clutch to be able to turn it on though

    Outstanding explanation, years ago in the circle track world there was a rule that said right side window clearance must be 13 1/2 minimum. Me thinking this is for escape purposes checked that i could fit out of my window. UMP official at a race told me i needed the other 1/2 inch. I asked him why? This is when he got huffy and threatened to send me packing. Thankfully a few minutes later he came over to my trailer and told me i have 1 week. Then he asked if i had tried climbing out. I said all the time that's how i get out of the car inside the trailer. Then he said with or without your helmet.. low and behold helmet didn't quite fit. I thanked him and gave him praise..

    Thanks the description makes perfect sense and logic. After the cuts are made the area is cleared as a module.

    This is my new favorite channel, Very impressive shop. As a fabricator mostly off road and road track, I can see you build a quality chassis. Great explanation on the rule change that would benefit our off road and track chassis. Any tip to help keep our customers safer and save a live when minutes are crucial is a win win for any race class.

    Always informative Tim, thank you for taking time to explain these things so clearly, I too was scratching my head when you referred to "must not be attached", I remember the old days in situations like this NHRA provided an illustration of what the wanted, thank you again.

    We r in process of updating our 2018 built chassis now, and we too were scratching our heads like wtf??!! As always Tim n his DIY vids makes sense vs NHRA tech wording. Thanks Tim Mcamis race cars!!!!

    Excellent explanation love your thought process. Even though I’m a stock car guy I came across your channel a while bank and enjoy your honesty and willingness to help everyone. I wish we had more people like you in our part of the sport. I really like the thought of leaving room for the Hurst tool, like you stated every second counts!

    That is definitely a good idea. I agree that you’re “cocoon” of carbon paneling that basically becomes modular when the bars are cut is a huge step in the right direction for any caged car.

      If you're putting a cage in an S-10, it's gonna do things Chevy could have never imagined...good luck and be safe.

    i have a few things. are the cut away in the corners of the panels big enough to really get a jaws of life in to where it can cut thru the tubing in one pass without resetting. the lower front and lower rear look like it might be a tight fit.. especially with any upward deflection of the rocker bar .. idea 2.. instead of carbon fiber panels.. aluminum panels that have beads rolled toward the outside. so the drivers side is smooth. the beads are rolled with the final angle of the attaching point bars starting in the middle and working their way out like a fan.. so if the cage is BENT.. the panels can expand without ripping loose of their 2 sided attachment points the panel is going to shrink as the beads are rolled so its going to start much larger. each bead will have to be drawn on after the previous bead is rolled, starting in the middle and working both ways. this allows the drivers legs to be protected from outside debris and from bumping the cage. (edit: visualize Sunburst pattern) this may take some creative rolling. or some creative bending. it also gets rid of the possible broken carbon fiber .. (thinking of possible broken carbon fiber next to the driver makes me wince) wraps of yellow and green tape/paint for jaws of life cut locations might be an idea to implement also. or just green areas where the builder has designed in room enough to cut thru at..
    off thread. i have wanted hydroformed tubing for the front and rear bars to the drivers cage.. stretch out a bendy straw. stick a smaller straw thru it as a guide to keep the corrogated section collapsing straight . this inner is only welded in at one end.. this reduces the G forces on the drivers in a front or rear end impact.. reducing the straight arm football tackle effect.

    So they are talking rigid attachments right? What about the use of Nylon attachment points, For going forward? If there is a need. The nylon is strong and flexible, and light. They can either cut or bend the panels out of the way. The advantage being its a inexpensive material that can be quickly removed in the case of an accident.

    given the reason, why not put some red tape or a marker on the X bar, a "cut here" line that guarantees fast removal.

    When you do something new like this on the first car built to the rule changes does an NHRA tech inspector come to the shop and tel you yes/no this will pass tech or do you guys just send the car to the first race and hope it passes inspection?

    Tim, do you have any FEA to show where the high stress areas are in a given chassis, preferably a high torque( horsepower) example? I'm certain there are a few of us out here with that level of curiosity.

    You could leave relief areas for the jaws to cut and put two yellow marks to show the safety safari where to make there cuts.

    I've lately been comparing NHRA vs. FIA cages. Why is the construction, especially for side impact, so different? Also, are modern cage designs done with computer stress modeling (FEA)? Thanks for your channel.

    Maybe that section should be bolted or locked in with pins. Why not hinged and latched, something like a ...... door? It's getting difficult for the big boys to get in and out.

      Lenco transmissions are dated now...PS is almost all automatics these days. Clutch be gone!

    Can't have cars with clutches anymore . It discriminates against one legged drivers . Or any mentally challenged racers unable to use both feet and both hands ( not to mention chew gum ) all at the same time .
