  • The radiology industry can be vague and mysterious. Even those who work within the medical industry may not have a solid grasp of who is who. Here is a brief vignette that discerns the different roles within the x-ray department.

I did my undergraduate degree in Radiology and imaging tech. Then completed my master degree in Radiology and after 15 years in this field started my Phd .
I finished undergraduate for 4 years in radiology school then 2 years intr. and rotaion then in the master degree do the speciality .
I do the same of Radiology MD do in USA and i have the same designation here because we do not have the same speciality here "MD in Radiology" .
Its only depending on which part of the world you are in.

Clear and great information Sir! What about radiographer and radiologic technician? Do they have the same meaning as radiologic technologist?

Thank you for your compliments, Minh Tan Tran! Good question. A radiologic technologist can be referred to as an RT, a radiology technician (thought not preferred), or a radiographer. Those not not schooled a radiologic technology program are usually referred to as an x-ray operator, or limited x-ray operator. The one term that is never a compliment to an RT is "x-ray technician". Although it is never meant as a slander, the term tends to homogenize ALL people that work with x-ray and it implies that x-ray specialists are limited to understanding equipment, not clinical applications.

Thank you so much for your explanation! In non-native English speaking countries, we are sometimes confused about those terms and misuse them unintentionally.

Islam, unfortunately, you need an MD designation for diagnosis. I too have several years or so of schooling, but I can only shoot the x-rays (and educate others on how to do the same)
