At the time in the 70's, hardly anybody knew that Kasey sang the first version of this song. Debby Boone got lucky.
Simply the best version of this song. Cisyk has a beautiful voice.
I admit I have never been a huge fan of this song but there is no doubt that Kacey Cisyk had a beautiful voice and of course all one had to do was turn on the television in the 70s and 80s and you would hear it via all the commercial jingles! I never understood why Joe Brooks denied her the single cut..or rather the backing and promotion of it . Debby Boone was adequate but it was not like she was some well known singer. She really only had the family name recognition.. Anyway, this to me will be the rendition that was tops

I don’t know, so so much emotion in her voice I feel like drowning when listening to it, but yet, simple and beautiful… the real great song well deserved to the Oscar.
Just found this and its amazing such a great voice 7/10/23 US she definitely deserve credit for this .

Casey Cisyk was the original singer of this song; what a classic!
Not taking anything away from Debby Boone but this is the one that should have Hit No. 1 for 10 Weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100 from October 15-December 17, 1977 because it was directly from the Soundtrack of the Film.

Kasey's version is the "Real Deal" for me. It was her voice I heard in the movie, it is her voice I hear today. This is the "definitive" version of the song "You Light Up My Life". I am glad to hear she eventually got credit. Thanks to the original poster for putting this version here to enjoy. RIP Kasey.
I will admit first off that ever since I was a 8 year old when this came out it has never been one of my favorites and as a self proclaimed chart historian I still am in awe that Debby Boone brought this to the top for 10 weeks and still is one of the biggest songs of the rock area.... Now having said that, Kacey Cysik had
one amazing voice as is evident since she was one of the most profilic session singers of the era!. Just so sad to pass away so young
I will be singing this version on the cruise for a 50th wedding anniversary and I pray that I don't start crying!

Досить сумна історія ошуканства - у Kвітки вкрали Оскар за виконання цієї пісні, а вона навіть не намагалася захистити своє право в суді. Виконавиця, яка (покроково повторюючи інтонації Квіткиного голосу) переспівала цю пісню, як свою - так і не змогла скопіювати глибину душі, яка солов`їно щебече в Квітчиному голосі.

This was the original singer whose voice was used in the movie. Didi Conn lipsynced to her singing. At the same time the movie came out, Debbie Boone recorded this song and it became a huge hit. Debbie copied Kasey's version. Have you heard her sing another hit? No. Anyway Kasey received $60 to sing a demo. She never received credits in the movie. Years later she sued and won 2 million. You can check her out being interviewed and talking about it on youtube. She unfortunately died young. I just moved and opened the box with the long playing record that I've had for decades. It took 6 weeks to get a hold of it from a top RCA exec because it was an embarrassment for the company. Unfortunately, the record was damaged in moving, I just threw it out. Very happy that it made it to youtube :-)

Yes she did sing in Grease. And she did not have a very good singing voice in Grease. Maybe as a comedian singing a song, she could have gotten over. But she really did not carry her singing line in Summer Lovin very well

@StormyTrooper I don't think she had a record deal. This song was given to Debbie Boone and that was her one big chance. She recorded multiple commercial music - ford, etc.
