Historian Rashid Khalidi discusses the pending United Nations Security Council vote on suspending fighting in Gaza to allow the entry of humanitarian aid, and the future of Palestine. The Biden administration reportedly delayed the U.N. vote and pushed other countries to water down the language. This comes as Israel and Hamas leaders have signaled they are open to another truce and hostage exchange. Israel's relentless assault on Gaza has now killed nearly 20,000 Palestinians and displaced over 90% of the Gaza Strip's 2.3 million people. "The situation in Gaza is unspeakable," says Khalidi, the Edward Said professor of modern Arab studies at Columbia University. "We are talking about traumatic events that are going to scar generations to come." He also discusses how the Gaza war risks sparking a regional conflict, ways to pressure Israel, and how U.S. leaders are prompting anger from "whole generations" in the Arab world and beyond.

This would entail a rapid strike on the first "notice" of an Iranian military move that would not cost the U.S or Israel too much in military. The continual bombardment they say of Gaza is not so much to get rid of Hamas as it is to clear this area of Palestinians... (1) for greater Israel (2) a more direct access to the Gaza coast energy sources (3) the future possibility of a Ben Gurion canal

around Israel, so there is no diplomatic responsibility for Netanyahu. Bibi did great things for Israel - now a sustainable, dynamic economy. Someone Else
will likely need to clean up the internal politics (N. Bennet seemed very much on track for that) and somehow come to terms with the internal Palestinians,

The real hope of America? You can't be serious! The one problem the Palestinians always had was that they entrusted their interests to corrupt leaders. A refugee status since 1948? My foot! Did you never ask yourself why? Because their elected leaders always found reasons to disagree with any proposal of a two-states solution - the most powerful one was of course the steady cash flow into their pockets that the refugee status guaranteed. Or how do you explain the enormous fortune Arafat left his widow after his death? It was widely covered by the press, so you should know. How can one be so naive? It's really shocking how uninformed you are!

It’s not a “Hamas/Israel war”. A complete misnomer. In International Law, Israel is the “Belligerent Occupying Power” and Colonialist Power. Israel is a settler colonialist state, continuously expanding on the deliberate ruination, destruction and dispossession of the indigenous population. The Gaza Strip is a deliberately imprisoned and besieged ghetto, and fully controlled by a brutal occupier. The top UN human rights lawyer Craig Mukhaiber recently stated there was incremental genocide before October 7th. He also stated that from October 8th that it is a clear case of genocide. He gave many examples. It is between the Palestinian Resistance Movement and this settler colonialist state which committed genocide on 78% of Palestine in 1948, continues to practice many ethnic cleansing, Apartheid and colonialist crimes to DISPOSSESS the indigenous people

Yes. The US did not attempt anything to stop Apartheid in South Africa until the tide turned internationally. Plus Israel supported the Apartheid regiem with military assistance and strategies to control the population. It all comes full circle. Absolutely shameful.😮

Always a smart and sound voice regarding this long standing racist occupation and take over as well as many other issues around the world. Khalidis understanding of the issue is thorough and balanced and is so simply because of the many truths steeped within his points and it’s incredibly difficult to refute the facts. Those that attempt to only aim to serve their own selective tyrannical purposes and we all know what greater purpose that serves and has served - we need not look far in history to know what injustice looks like feels like tastes like and especially sounds like - all of it has LIES in its foundation. Please continue teaching and speaking and living the truth Mr. Khalidi.

By the way, the British did exactly the same with the Qawasim tribes of what is now Ras Al Kheima, after losing maritime battles with the Qawasim fleet in the 19th century. This was the beginning of the colonial war, in which Britain took over the gulf region.

@@moudzy1446 Well last time I researched from the Kingdom of Israel, I understood who are the real imposters and the real victims through ages. However, in the last 70 odd years the things could have taken a better course which Palestine and its Arab allies didnt want to. What happens now is basically what Palestinians sow by creating Hamas and raging wars. If someone doesnt toe your propagada line doesnt automatically become biased. Palestine and its allies including the supporting terrror groups should accept the two state solutions and let the world have peace.

@@manbeh4u Again, you really need to get your facts straight. Palestinians and the UN General assembly, and many others, accepted the boarders prior to June 1967. You can google Peaceful Settlement of the Palestine Question, United Nations general assembly. Also, this situation has been greeted over 100 years ago by the British. In my opinion based on my research, the only terror that exists in the world is created by the settlers colonialism ideology sowed by Britain.

... IF Israel's own reports of the IDF's killing of the three hostages is accurate, it was NOT an accident. It might have been inexperienced soldiers in a panicked state, but THAT is STILL not precisely an accident ... the hostages were shirtless and, as such, hardly likely hiding a large explosive (if we assume that they were actually Hamas operatives) ... the soldiers COULD have told them to strip completely and approach one at a time with their hands on their heads.
The soldiers WERE armed, after all ... ☮🔯☪✝☮

26:02 the essence : although the Jewish people have an incontrovertible connection to the land of Palestine it doesn’t change the fact that Israel is fighting a colonial war against the indigenous population. Israelis believe they (too?) are indigenous and not settlers. This belief is a need I think because it creates moral cover for their never ending aggression and theft of land.
Of course if you and your recent ancestors have lived and died in Palestine over time the belief strengthens but the colonial methods of oppression remain.
