I've seen many great ideas for jewelry storage that goes on the wall, but I've never made any. I really like your first idea using needlepoint canvas. Thanks for the easy and inexpensive storage ideas. We love you!
I really like the fact that you show what DOESN'T work as well as what does. It not only helps us not go down the same dead ends, you also don't come across as one of those Perfect Pinterest People who make the rest of us feel inadequate. Thanks!
Hi Norrine. I made a huge jewelry organizer 7 years ago. Initially I had 4 jewelry boxes but had to go through all four boxes quite often looking for particular earrings. It added time to my morning routine getting ready for work. So now my organizer is hung up on my bedroom wall because if I don't see my jewelry I don't wear it. Most of my very large collection of earrings are dangle earrings so I designed my organizer to work best with these types of earrings. I used a 4 foot x 6 foot decorative, thick, wood frame (which was free) and stapled burlap to the back of it with a stapler gun. I bought the inexpensive burlap at Wal-Mart and it was 60" wide so I had to cut it down just a little. I did fold over the burlap where it was stapled so it wasn't too thin in that section. Now the burlap did have to be stretched out while stapling so it would look good and provide a stiffer backing so it was a two person job. I stiffened the burlap with mod podge after stapling it to the frame. I like the sealed burlap because it holds onto the earrings securely and they don't fall out when I'm adding and removing earrings. The organizer is still hung up and in use 7 years later. For my lever back earrings I just added safety pins to the burlap and that allowed me to easily add and remove those types of earrings. I don't use post back earrings because they irritate my ears but if I did I would have attached another strip of burlap with a safety pin and that would have held many post back/stud earrings. My jewelry is organized by color so it's really easy to find what I'm looking for. Because my organizer is hanging on the wall its also really easy to return the jewelry to it's original spot.
What a fantastic idea I’d love to share your design with my viewers… if you wouldn’t mind sharing a picture of it. You can send it to norrine@craftydashorganizer.com along with whatever name/info you’d like to be acknowledged with!!
Awesome ideas! Just an added thought about the first one you did- if you are concerned about the flimsiness of the mesh with the frame around it- just add foam to both sides! It will stop it from being flimsy and give you a bit of extra space if you have more than one sheet on top of each other (if that makes sense!) Thanks for sharing! Love your ideas! Can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve 😉
I agree, foamcore on both sides. Plus, if you start with long frame sides first on one side, and start with short frame sides first on the other side, you will brace and stabilize the corners. ☺️✅🙏
Love the binder idea. I used my favorite sweater that was a little worn out but I didn't want to part with it so I started using it for earing/jewelry storage. I hung it from a hanger in my closet. It's handy because you can see all your jewelry at once. I hang it at the end of the rod so it's always easy to locate. Thanks so much for your channel. I love it!
What a cute idea! And a great way to use a loved ones item for a practical use. Can you send me a picture?? I’d love to share this with my viewers and give you credit! You can email it to norrine@craftydashorganizer.com
Love your idea for earring holder. I made mine a little different. I used a Dollar tree wire waste basket, and a tall candle holder, glued. Waste basket on top of wooden candle holder, and hung my earrings on holes in waste basket.
My hubby is a leathercrafter. He has punches that just punch a single hole. I use a tiny one to punch holes in my leather earrings for the wires & such. They come in various sizes. They would probably work for punching holes in your foam. They’re like a hollow pipe, sharper on one end. You just position it & give a couple taps with a wooden mallet. 😊
A great idea! Now, how about grabbing a padded mailing envelope while at the $Tree to slip your page of jewelry in for travel? Or run buy Joanns for a short piece of quilted fabric to make a really cute travel envelope? Yeah, and then keep an empty page so you can choose your jewelry for your trip without having to rearrange what's in the binder. Sometimes I even amaze myself!
Enjoyed this craft. I bought a canvas (for painting). It has its own frame already. I covered it by glueing a single layer of a paper napkin over the canvas. I chose a pale lightly patterned napkin so the earrings didn’t disappear in the pattern. Initially, I was going to use a matching embroidery thread and do lines of running stitches to hook the earrings over but I decided just to use a needle and poke holes in the canvas. Because of the frame, you lose some surface area along the sides but you could easily attach hooks etc. into the frame for rings, bracelets and so on. Obviously, this doesn’t go into a folder, but I’d stands up - with help, or leans against the wall on a shelf.
Great ideas. For the holes in the foam, if you still have old school eyelet setter and punch( ones used with hammer or a grommet set), will work great for the holes you need in the foam core. And agree with other comments, 2 sides of the foam and stager the joints will be more sturdy.
I had a friend lose ALL her jewelry in a break-in. She said her whole house was ransacked and the only room untouched was the kitchen! Now she keeps valuables in the kitchen! I'll have to tell her about this idea. Anyone would assume recipes were in them if they saw binders in a kitchen.
Sorry for what your friend went through. When we travel, we used to keep valuables and important papers in a vacuum bag, inside an empty food box and buried it in our deep freezer. Not a permanent storage place. We don't have much in expensive jewelry. Just sentimental. The paperwork, mostly because of a fire or earthquake. Lived in the pac northwest for a while.
I too had all of mine stolen. They were on display because I am a visual. However, I am trying to come up a solution for easy access, and still look at them, yet out of robbers view sight. Some form of this with blinds might work somehow.
As always, great ideas Norrine! I like the canvas better too. As always Norrine, thank you for sharing all of your hard work, creativity, talent and inspiration! Stay safe, healthy and positive! God bless you and your family! 🙏❤🇺🇸😊
I used the plastic canvas without a frame long time ago for all my jewelry. Being an Avon rep, I have lots of earrings. The problem I had was putting everything back on to the canvas and not tossing them in a pile & then I had loads of earring to put on the canvas. Your system looks a lot stronger. Thanks, Norrine for all the wonderful ideas.
I tossed my jewelry into a little dish next to my bed if I didn’t feel like putting it away then after it got full I put it away but then again, I should’ve just been wearing it bc now I look at all I have and I wear the same necklaces daily... I need a change 😂
I have been mentally working on a similar idea using fiberglass window screening in a wood frame to hang on the wall. You have inspired me to get that done.
I have used the idea of plastic canvas in a wooden frame for my earrings. Took two matching and added a piano type hinge to help display and stand. Not the best for motor home travel. I Will Be revamping to the binder concept! Perfect!! Thank you So Much.
I use 3 ring binders for organizing paperwork for purchases for my home. One for small appliances, one for Large appliances, one for outdoor purchases. I use sheet protectors, write the name of the item & purchase date with a permanent marker on the front.. I put the sales receipt, warranty info & info on all repairs in the protector. It has saved a lot of money buy having all the paperwork I need for repairs. I can easily see how old an appliance is. I also have a binder with landscaping receipts, which tells me the names of all my trees, scrubs etc. I included a drawing of my lot showing where everything is planted.
What a great idea this is!!!! I never would have thought of that. And I also love the canvas better than just foam core, so I plan on making some of those. I can't thank you enough for all the time and wisdom you give to all of us. And you are such a fun person! How I wish you lived closer (I'm on the other coast...)!!! Have a wonderful day!
Nice!! I made a stand with card board and strips of cotton lace edging to hang my earrings off of but I really like the idea of putting them in a binder to keep dust off them. Thanks for sharing.
I like the design with the plastic canvas but I would add another foam core frame on the back and overlap the joints found on the front. So the across legs would be wider and the up & down legs shorter. This would make this so much stronger and allow more clearance for the earrings. Also might add a card stock page between earring frames. And finally, If you have one, use a drill to make holes for the binder rings.
Another idea, is replace the inside pieces of a photo frame with a piece of plastic canvas. Either hot glue it in or just use the tabs. You can hang it on the wall by gluing ribbon on the frame to make a hanger. I've done this, it works great!
You could also add bits of elastic to hold bracelets and hairpins! This would be really useful for cosplay conventions, you could put all of one character's jewelry on one page, sort of like a dream board. you could also sort your jewelry by color or style, a different page/ binder for each. I really love this fantastic idea! Thank you for sharing your great ideas with us glad you are feeling better, we missed you.
I made one of these several years ago and it has been fabulous - EXCEPT that I just glued a sheet of the plastic canvas into a photo frame. It worked really well.
Awesome idea! I was thinking that if you made jewelry to sell at a craft fair it would be a good way to display everything! Thanks for another great project Norrine!
I used to sell jewelry so make sure you put some weight on anything you have on your craft table bc a nice gentle wind blew my earrings off my table...also you can make a display case out of a picture frame or use pushpins and cork board to hold necklaces or extra earrings you can paint the cork board or use felt or hang necklaces from little statues you elevate or tale the binder and make sides for your table to enclose the items on both sides of table
Love this! Use a zipper binder and make it a travel case! Also, as a fellow "curly girl", I would love to know what your hair routine is! You're curls are amazing!
I let it dry on it's own... and then just add a little product to help control the frizz. I have been using REF products most recently - but my hair gets "used" to product quickly and stops working often... so I have to change frequently. I'm always on the hunt for new things to help my curl stay calm. LOL
What a wonderful idea! My house was broken into last week and I lost almost all of my jewelry. On the plus side, I make jewelry, so I can remake a lot of it, except for one-of-a-kind items. I like the idea of keeping it in the kitchen, very clever.
Did they steal your costume jewelry as well? I don't have expensive jewelry because I don't care about gemstones but I'd be gutted if my fabulous, costume jewelry was stolen. I spent years looking for and purchasing my pieces at garage sales and online.
@@LovinglfDesigns Yes, I had vintage peices missing, one pin I had since I was a kid, it was a gold coloured cat with green rhinestone eyes. The other ones I had collected the last 45 years at flea markets, estate sales & yard sales.
Very clever. It would be great to mix and match the two types for what's needed. I felt like this video was a "Challenge the Crafty Organizer" You are so creative, that would be a fun thing for you to do every once in a while!
I used the plastic screening without the frame, but will frame them as you did, then put them in a photo box. There easy to grab, the box is pretty and I don’t have to dust them🤣. The poster board will make them sturdier. Love your ideas ., thanks for all you do.
I have a picture framing shop and end up with long strips of foam core all the time. I’m sure if your viewers went into a frame shop they would be able to get strips for free. I love it when I don’t have to throw them in the garbage and the get a second use. Thanks for your videos.
This gives me an idea to make a smaller one for traveling. Normally my jewelry that I'm going to wear while on a trip gets thrown in a bag. I've tried the pill box but you are limited on what you can bring. This was a great idea!
If punching the holes for the binder is a hassle, you could sit each page loose in a magazine file. Love the idea. I choose my jewellery by colour, so I would have a page for each colour.
I wonder if cross-stitch fabric (especially if you have it) would work. Especially with some fabric stiffy. and if the awl type tool would work as hole punch.
For the holes instead of using a hole punch, you could use grommets. It would give a nice decorative touch, plus make it more sturdy. The kits that come with the tool & some grommets aren't usually super expensive--around $20 & it come in handy for other things--like even adding a hole in a leather belt.
Brilliant!! Thinking I can make a smaller one to bring on a 2+ week vacation. One of the most frustration things for me is untangling jewelry (which takes a long time) when I could be taking in the sites. Thank You!😁😊😀🙃
Great idea, Norrine. I have gotten rid of most of my jewelry. I never change my rings and don't even wear earrings, since I don't want to lose them when I have to wear a mask.
love this idea! it will be great for my earrings. it will let me free up some drawers. I have icecube trays in drawers to organize a ton of earrings...time to purge some of the old ones.
You can use a picture frame and cork board material. The cork can be covered with card stock or fabric. The cork is easy to puncture and it’s lite. It isn’t that expensive and you can use it for multiple projects. You can get a picture frame from Dollar Tree with/without a kickstand.
Very interesting!!! I have been searching for a good diy for all the costume jewelry that I have. This gives me a good start, but I will find a way to use wood. I was already thinking of separate panels (your "pages"). This is my confirmation. Thank you so much!!
OH! That will be so strong and beautiful! Please share pictures if you do. You can share them on my Crafty Organizer page on Facebook: facebook.com/groups/730125317461615/
This is a cute idea! I kept thinking though that I would be scared that something might fall off of the boards. My thought was that you could cut the boards slightly smaller, and slide them into one of those plastic page protectors maybe? It would also solve the problem of trying to punch those holes...THAT looks difficult.
@@TheCraftyOrganizer oh, that's a good idea too! Or, and this JUST occurred to me, get one of those that has the zipper on it. Duh. (Also, I imagine you could probably use a drill to make the holes if all else fails. ) I know your Crop-a-dile failed, but I have a Crop-a-dile Big Bite...I wonder if it can handle the job? 🤔
I had 2 other DIY jewlery systems in the past that are also verry easy to make. I thook a canvas to paint on first decorate as you wish than put nails in the upper wooden thing (cant find the name for it 🙈) but nit al the way trough on the nails i would hang my necklacesses and bracelets. Than for earrings i got a photoframe thook out the glass again decorate the way you want i put in scrapbook cardstock in de background and painted the frame drill smal hols in de back board like a pegboard so you can hang earrings in the hols. My daugther still usses te systems i think its now over 5 years ago that i made these and wen you get tired of them or redecorate your home, you can redecorate them and its feels as new again
Perfect, I’m going to try both! And binder idea is wonderful bc I like to cover my jewelry, and ofcourse conceal it bc I live in house share/landlord situation so we might have guests or workmen or need to come into my room for repairs/ emergencies...it’s easier to move my binders to all different places in my room! I have the perfect decorative one binder in mind with butterflies and flowers all over it! I have so many ideas now! ❤️
Your bookcases you have are awesome. Thinking about getting me a couple to use at my condo. There isn't very much storage so using some bookcases is a good idea..
Binders are so cool, especially for a 🤓 like me! Such a great space-saving option. My only issue is that I feel I need mine to be openly displayed, in order to use them (out of sight, out of mind). Nonetheless, this is a great option to consider❣️
Hi! This is beautiful and so timely! Another you tuber that I watch is The Posh Paper Lady. She posted a video yesterday about making a binder! I can see combining your videos for gifts!!!! Amazing video as usual!!!
I found cd holders at my local thrift shop. Some are wall mounted and I have one that stands alone. They are great for organizing and displaying my earrings, those with hooks instead of posts. I’ve also used decorative grating from Hobby Lobby, cut to size and stapled in picture frames which I hung on the wall. Both work very well to organize earrings in small spaces. I couldn’t figure out how to upload a picture. Sorry

Dollar tree foam curlers placed in a box. Instant ring holder. Also I used foam board inside clear sheet protectors in a binder
Love this idea. Will have to make one for all my earrings. I just got one of those finger blades and excited to try it out.
I love mine!!!!!!
Hi Norrine, thank you so much for this wonderful idea! Just what I need to organise and keep my jewellery in xoxo
Love this.
Very clever. It would be great to mix and match the two types for what's needed.
I felt like this video was a "Challenge the Crafty Organizer" You are so creative, that would be a fun thing for you to do every once in a while!
OH!!!! I like that idea! I love trying to dupe things!
Can't wait to make one! Thank you!👍🐬
You’re welcome 😊
I used the plastic screening without the frame, but will frame them as you did, then put them in a photo box. There easy to grab, the box is pretty and I don’t have to dust them🤣. The poster board will make them sturdier. Love your ideas ., thanks for all you do.
That is such a smart idea, Iris!!!! Thanks for sharing!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer lol, I’m just a lazy duster.
I have a picture framing shop and end up with long strips of foam core all the time. I’m sure if your viewers went into a frame shop they would be able to get strips for free. I love it when I don’t have to throw them in the garbage and the get a second use. Thanks for your videos.
What a wonderful idea!!!! Thank you so much for suggesting this!!!
This gives me an idea to make a smaller one for traveling. Normally my jewelry that I'm going to wear while on a trip gets thrown in a bag. I've tried the pill box but you are limited on what you can bring. This was a great idea!
you might like a Japanese hole punch for thicker papers / boards. I'm adding this too much to-do-project list. I have a lot of earrings :)
What a cool idea! I'm going to make some and hang them up to decorate my wall.
I liked the mesh. I would also like the mesh in a wooden frame
I have used screen to hang the earrings on, we had some leftovers from replacing old screens.
Both great ideas!!✌️🐞🕉️
Love them! I think the mesh is my fave. TFS! 🥰
If punching the holes for the binder is a hassle, you could sit each page loose in a magazine file. Love the idea. I choose my jewellery by colour, so I would have a page for each colour.
That is such a great idea! Thank you for sharing!
I wonder if cross-stitch fabric (especially if you have it) would work. Especially with some fabric stiffy. and if the awl type tool would work as hole punch.
I don't see why not! Or burlap... or even an old sweater!!!!
very nice, and cheap awesome
wonderful ideas!
Thank you! 😊
For the holes instead of using a hole punch, you could use grommets. It would give a nice decorative touch, plus make it more sturdy. The kits that come with the tool & some grommets aren't usually super expensive--around $20 & it come in handy for other things--like even adding a hole in a leather belt.
This is a really good idea. I did something similar to this years ago & hung it it my closet for my earrings. Works great.
Those are amazing ☺️
YAY!!!! So glad you like them!
Brilliant!! Thinking I can make a smaller one to bring on a 2+ week vacation. One of the most frustration things for me is untangling jewelry (which takes a long time) when I could be taking in the sites. Thank You!😁😊😀🙃
I Love this 💡😍
Great idea, Norrine.
Very cool 💎
You could freeze your glue sticks
To get rid of webs.😁❤
What???? I've never heard of that!!!!! Really?
Simply brilliant!💕
Thank you! 😊
This is a cute idea! I kept thinking though that I would be scared that something might fall off of the boards. My thought was that you could cut the boards slightly smaller, and slide them into one of those plastic page protectors maybe? It would also solve the problem of trying to punch those holes...THAT looks difficult.
Someone suggested just slipping the boards into a magazine holder! I loved that! No holes, still hidden, and easy to pull out!
I like that it is not metal screen. I always worry if that will tarnish jewelry.
I saw that idea - but was trying to not have to make people go to hardware stores! Didn't think about the tarnish aspect!!!!
That sounds adorable and perfect for those who like to see their jewelry on display🥰
❤️
I love it ❤️ It’s going to be so fun to decorate these💯❤️🌺🥰
Please take pictures!!!!
Great DIY! I liked the holder with the mesh best. :)
Thank you! 😊
You could have used the awl to make the holes instead of the craft knife too! If it was thick enough as you got it in closer to the handle.
Your bookcases you have are awesome. Thinking about getting me a couple to use at my condo. There isn't very much storage so using some bookcases is a good idea..
I just did an entire video going over the amazing uses for bookcases! And you can get them super cheap at most thrift stores!
OMG! And we didn't ever coordinate this time! LOL
I was just thinking about doing a jewelry holder because my jewelry is out of control lol!
You can send any unwanted items my way! LOL Hope it works for your needs!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer will do!!!
Sorry
So smart!!!!! You can email me pictures! I'd love to see the. Norrine@Crafty-Organizer.com
For foam core, a screw punch might work better than a hole punch.
I think you are right!
