His win in Fide is quite insignificant any of the top 5 could have won in another day of chess because of the format of the game and the long time format. Guckesh is just calculating deeply but that is a youth aptitude, it's not enough you need real talent like Alireza or Magnus. Discipline and calculation are the young Indian generation approach to chess but that is mostly work and skills not genius and talent.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, but I believe that while Gukesh's style might emphasize discipline and calculation, these qualities are essential in chess and can often be the foundation of long-term success. Talent manifests in various forms, and Gukesh has demonstrated his own unique brand of talent through his consistent performance and rapid rise in the ranks.
It's also worth noting that Gukesh's path to becoming the world champion involves facing Ding Liren, rather than Magnus or Alireza. Each player brings their own strengths and strategies to the table, and it will be fascinating to see how Gukesh's approach evolves as he continues to grow and gain experience. His journey is just beginning, give him time and you'll see... my money is on Gukesh this time.
@@ChessofLegends Discipline and calculation are essential in Chess yes, but they are not exceptional and can be learned through work to a high level. On the other hand talent comes from birth and elasticity of the brain and that can not be learned. While Alireza lacks the level of discipline especially over long time format, Gukesh lacks intuition and genius. Unfortunately these do not come with the years, the opposite happens calculation is the youth forte and weaken with age.
The world champion definition in Chess has evolved. I agree with Magnus that you have to be good at all form of Chess not just classic chess. Many people don't respect Ding Liren as he lacks that broad set of skills that Magnus has. In fact the FIDE world champion is not that important. I believe the strongest chess player right now are Alireza and Magnus. Gukesh''s calculation is a one poney trick. We've seen it fall apart with time pressure. That is not integrated chess.
Hard work and discipline IS a talent. Who are you to say that Gukesh doesn't possess a genius mind? I won't try to discredit your points about Magnus and Alireza, because I think they are great, but so is Gukesh (and Ding for that matter). You don't seem to understand what it takes to be a top chess player and to win the candidates at such a young age playing against all the best players in the world. Gukesh is as brilliant as any of these players (if not more) and it's likely that his hardwork and discipline will propel him to even greater heights. I'm no chess expert, and it seems like neither are you, so before you try to discredit a young man about his great success, try do what he's doing and see what it takes.
@@ericastier1646 talents are of different type, the one you're talking bout is a innate talent. Hard work, discipline and dedication is another talent. Talent don't do anything if you don't work hard, at that level of chess everyone is talented more or less.
But talent will only take you so far, if you lack discipline and hard work you'll be easily overtaken by the ones who has those.

In the classical music world it is well known that hard work even a life of hard work can never make up for talent. "Innate talent" is a pleonasm, like "wet water". Talent is always innate but can be left undiscovered or discovered. Many aspiring musician work so hard for years but never achieve the best result because of lack of talent. That is why talent can be discovered at a young age and then cultivated with hard work and discipline.
Discipline is not a talent it is a learned value through education.
You are presumptuous thinking your can spread your reasoning mistakes and assume others are younger than you. I'm probably the age of your father.
Guckesh is mostly a highly disciplined hardworking chessplayer. These qualities are attainable in young age but are not enough. As age comes calculating must depend more on talent and intuition which are most effective in shorter time format.
If he gets in a tie breaker he will lose badly tho. He is not as good as other top classical players at rapid or blitz
I don't think he hides the fact that he's not as good as he should be at rapid and blitz, but he still has plenty of time to prepare against Ding Liren... quite frankly I'm glad (and pretty sure he is too) that he doesn't have to face Magnus 🤷♂️
Yes agreed, but to play rapid and blitz, you mostly need tournament experience that you get as you play longer. At 17, he has had time only to master the classical format, but 10 years from now, don't be surprised if he wins the blitz and perhaps bullet championships.
I think so too, it's only the beginning for him and he seems to have the necessary focus to achieve such goal.
