    I flew for the first time when I was 11 years old in 1968. My family is from Ireland and England and we flew Pan Am, it was the only airline that my parents would fly, and I was so impressed that I remember the flight and the wonderful Irish stewardess who fussed over my brother and I. I worked 23 years for Northwest Orient, another pioneering airline, and I have happy memories of these years. Thanks for posting this video.

    For those who were lucky enough to be in the industry in the 60's and beyond......PanAm was the gold standard and looked up to by everybody. Back when flying was exciting and glamorous, PAA made it that way. We will never see these days again........fair skys and following winds to all who wore that uniform.....we all miss you.

    The last comment about "The best chapters are yet to come," is sad. Instead, it was a decade long slide to bankruptcy. I flew on Pan Am's last flight out of Nairobi to Frankfurt on October 14, 1991. The flight crew received roses; drinks were free. Even on it's death bed, Pan Am was a 5 star airline. Someone needs to revive it.

    My 1st flight was on a Pan Am 747 in 1972 from NY's JFK to San Juan, Puerto Rico. I still have the wings and a deck of playing cards that the stewardess gave me from that flight. I flew Pan Am to many destinations throughout the 70s & 80s and every time was memorable. What a classy airline they were. It is greatly missed. Thank you for posting this homage & thank you Pan American World Airways for showing me the world in style.

    Pan Am's 80th Anniversary Celebration was held in Miami on October 27, 2007 and attended by hundreds of former Pan Am employees from around the world. The Mayor, Manuel A. Dias, declared it PAN AM DAY in the City of Miami. Pan Am personified the pioneering spirit combined with excellence in service.

    Because I've lived my entire life in Canada, I never once flew Pan Am (simply because they never served my city or flew the routes I flew as a kid), and yet not even THIS CRAZY CANUCK was spared the sunken-hearted feeling when this carrier closed the book.

    Pan Am placed the first order for the 747-100/SR/B on Apr 13, 1966, ....the first Roll-Out was on Sep 30, 1968, ....First 747 Flight on Feb 9, 1969, Certification on Dec 30, 1969, ....Pan Am received the first actual delivery of the 747 on Dec 13 1969, and it was put in first Pan Am revenue service on Jan 21, 1970. To me, PanAm will always remain "The Worlds Most Experienced Airline" ... To bad it disseappeared. I had the privilege to be part of its work force in Brussels for over 21 years, right to the sad end, back in 1991. They had a slogan: "PanAm can Do !!!" What on earth went wrong.

    @stingpower I know, the leaders of Pan Am at that time were too ambitious. If they went below 25 they would have lasted to day with the 747-400 and even the 747-8i!

    If they had not ordered so many 747's they might still be around today.They did need domestic feed,but merging with National was not the answer....

    I wish Pan Am's goal was shared by today's carriers, rather than to gouge people for sub-standard service and treatment like cargo by airport security. Let's see... $500 for an uncomfortable seat, shitty "meal" a pillow to rent, and deep cavity inspection before boarding.... or a quiet minivan with good music, comfortable seat, whatever I want to eat at less than half the price...

    i've never been in a 747, wish i could though. i also didn't get a chance to ever fly with pan am (i was born in 89 and didn't board my first flight until the late 90s), but at least i got a chance to fly with twa (which to me is just as good as pan am) a few years before it merged (screw you american airlines and what you did to the twa flight attendants).
    i miss the legacy airlines. what we have today just doesn't have that nostalgia you get when you think "pan am" or "twa".

    I flew Pan Am in 1969 and 1981 and saw the deteoration in customer service , that was the main reason they went bankrupt , you need to fly like everyday is your first flight. I do think they should be given a second chance and billions invested to get people working again, but base it on competence not affirmative action, and keep the flight attendants young .

  • @gyokszi
    @gyokszi 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really love Pan Am, but have mixed feelings with this video. According to the mentioned goals, today's PAA must be Ryanair. But stating that would be the biggest insult against Pan Am, I think. Can we say, that the Ryanair story is a great thing, that began with Pan Am? I don't want to think about PAA as RYR's father anyways.

    The A380 is probably the king, but an ugly one! A 747 has graceful lines, while an A380 looks bloated.
