If you missed the second leg of the St Mary's Trophy race, you can watch the fleet of Austin A35's battle it out in full here! #GoodwoodRevival This video is sponsored by Mastercard
My dad had an A35 company car,he used to terrify me the speed he took corners, they were known for instability problems but it didn’t bother him he was nuts,my first car was the MK1 Austin A40 Farina which was pretty similar in mechanicals to the A35s but it never went like these do,I always had the idea of putting the MG1100 engine in it but never got round to it and bought a Series 6 Morris Oxford with the 1622cc engine, another Dozey lump but very reliable.
I'm surprised there's this many of these things still alive but somewhat embarrassed that I still know the difference between an A30 & an A35 having not even seen one in at least 40yrs.
Yep, & still racing as hard as I did when I raced against those little bugger's way back then. Old is a hole people fall into, I refuse. My latest endeavor is the 500mph wheel driven barrier.
Racing these A30's/A35's probably feels like 500 mph! On the flip-side I went on the Thrust SSC simulator at Coventry Motor Museum and it felt as if I was in an ordinary road going Austin A30/A35! It felt absolutely nothing like Land Record Breaking 760 mph speed to me!
What a great race the little austins get along and how safe are they just a roll bar and you can roll about six times land on your wheels get out and walk around were these old cars that unsafe they were solid maybe cars built today could learn from the cars today l would much rather roll an A30 than a modern car a solid car with all these air bags when a racing harness and a roll cage is all you need in solid car
Amazing that some of these cars are nearly 70 years old and racing in anger. I bet the people at Austin of England never envisaged that when they were making them
I notice there are a number of A30s here. I don't know if they improved the brakes and steering for the A35 but both of these would have made racing "challenging". As would the relatively poor rear shock absorber performance. I enjoyed my A30 greatly and it was a surprisingly efficient body design for usable space or for working on the engine bay. However even despite the low power output racing would have been quite scary.
I agree, that new cars are pretty souless affairs. But you have to take in technology and safety of the vehicle. I am surprised and disappointed they didn't do a modern take on the A30,/35, people would lap them up..
I totally agree with you. Modern car design is so uninteresting. Meaningless 'swoops' and indentations in the panels - terrible vision thanks to the 'swept up' rear quarters, claustrophobic, tacky interiors, full of bling. Silly designs for the lights. We were offered a Merc A180 rental car - really yuk. As for safety - well at least the driver had a great view out in an A35 and it's contemporaries.
Sad to see 1 car roll...but l feel that with the care given to these cars, that it will be rebuilt... Why not... They are so cute great shape...and like the mini's, so entertaining. Pity that people don't make a kit car...so that some of us, again could see some on the roads...and tracks . However, the EU .. will waggle there fingers....no...no ..no.. contamination...🤨 Dip sticks
That looks like FUN!!!!!!!!!!
Wow - my Dad's A35 van never went quite as fast as these!
Really shouldn't have watched this! Makes me want one

90 HP and brakes! It makes perfect racing.
This made me smile.
These must be the cutest cars ever made :-)

A good speed run will feel smooth & eventless, if not, you probably crashed.
These cars are pretty much like scarabs: they were not made to fly, but they DO - and do good.
Brilliant!
The A30’s should be obliged to use their trafficators on all bends!
Comical but i cant stop watching.
Smile factor :). Genius little design..
Brilliant.
I have driven an A35, but I wasn't daft enough to race one.

We had a black A35 Never in my wildest dreams thought they could be raced. Only have motion but zero acceleration
Amazing that some of these cars are nearly 70 years old and racing in anger. I bet the people at Austin of England never envisaged that when they were making them
Those are adorable
How can they have more hp than my car?
Oh, they are so cute!!! (I know, I know . . . but they ARE!)

Doughnut jam...
6:00
17:05. Ex-British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is enjoying racing!
Seriously ?
How is it that some of these A35s could land in the top 10 of a ‘60s Group 7 race?
In English speak, shouldn’t the leader be identified as One & 20?
Sledge hammer bottle jack she will be back on the track next week.
Where's Charles Charlie Charles one half of the famous Charles brothers
i would be nice if there is a new car with that body design but performance of a modern car....im 50 yrs old i dont find new cars beautiful

Great race, but to many adverts
These must be the fastest cars in the World.
Best little cars in the world. So many have survived !
Ah, England.

Hilarious! Trouble is they’re actually serious 😳, You only need to watch the first minute , the rest it no more funny .
