There are tournaments online. I was a chess player for 50 years...till I met Homeworlds! Past decade prolly played 3 games of chess vs 300 games of Homeworlds.

      Wow, I can't say I've made it to 300 games. But I know I've passed 100.

I bought Homeworlds after watching this video. Came back to thank you! It's my all time favorite game! The only downside for me is that I can't find enough people to play with. I simply can't believe this amazing game isn't among the most popular ever. Anyone wants to play on Board Game Arena?

Do you play on abstract play? I play on BGA sometimes, but only live, and I prefer Homeworlds Live for that anyway, but that requires arranging a time to meet on that site and play

@@StrategicGamesEtc Thank you! I'll try Abstract Play.

@@willhelpforfree feel free to send me a challenge I prefer 24/12/72 time controls (+12h/move), but I'm okay with default or something in between if you want something slower. I'm Samraku there.

I only recently (past couple of weeks) found out about this game but it is fantastic! It amazes me that there is so much depth hidden within just a handful of components and a couple of rules. I appreciate you covering it more in this video, particularly the "strategy 101" for new players (which I absolutely am). I'm looking forward to trying to get better at this game, as it just seems so fascinating.

Yeah I found out about this game 3 days ago after hearing about Martian chess for the first time. For both games hours later. Just tremendous

Looks like a super simple game with deep strategy. I’ll have to try it out. I’m sure my son would really enjoy it.

We just played it at lunch, in a restaurant, for the first time in almost 2 years. The entire wait staff came over to ask what we were playing. It has table presence for sure.

This game looks great. Your videos are great. You are the bloke who did the fantastic Car Wars video of how to play. We watch that every time we play CW and need a top-up on the rules. You sir are a top bloke.

There's just so much going on and things can turn on a single move you didn't see coming. I really can't think of any other abstract I'd rather play.

Thanks for sparking interest in this game again. I pulled out my ice dice set to see if had enough sets already...sadly I will need to buy more pyramids.

Cool playmat! Did you get that custom made? What about the tin you carry the game in... can't seem to find a 4" tin like that. I have gear envy now 😂

I kickstarted this one just because you talked about it all the time.

Now that I understand how this is played, I think one of the most fascinating things about this game to me is how it's basically entirely non-positional. In the vast majority of abstract games, like chess or go or checkers, the positions pieces occupy relative to each other is incredibly important. In homeworlds, positions basically don't matter. All that really matters are combinations.

    • @anab0lic

probably not the abstract for me then as smart positional play tends to be my thing.

@anab0lic I wouldn't say that. You can still position the layout in a way that makes positioning makes sense. That's actually how Andrew Looney plays it. It's just also designed in a way that makes it optional.

Where do you get the round travel case version?

There is a Container Store container which Andy Looney discovered was the perfect size for the 36 pyramids needed for Homeworlds. Pyramid Arcade contains a sticker that perfectly fits the lid, but you need to find the container yourself.
