This is why The Good Place by Michael Schur exists. That show basically showed the fundamental flaws of the Heaven/Hell concept, with eternal pleasure reducing people to mindless zombies without the presence of something to end it all or eternal torture just sucking for the torturer and torturee as both go through the Sisyphean motions of suffering, as stated by some of the demons themselves, and that people don't deserve to be stuck in either side forever. For ghosts, it depends on if you’re an observer or if it’s ghostbusters. Being able to mess around is fun, and you could treat it as eternal life but not really. You could pretty much run a business forever or even get to see the future once enough time has passed.
