If you walk into a place do not say Yiasou - say Yasas (plural and more formal)

***** That's too informal unless walking into a room of friends

I remember when Boney M visited Greece 2006-7? In a live feed they greeted people MALAKA? and quickly he was interrupted and was told it is an insult ,then he said I thought it was a greeting because we have been hearing this word since we landed at the Airport .

@NLWK110710 That is why in the last 8 months we have done videos in Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece :) See Wolters World doesn't just help travelers, we help economies with major problems.... One cheap hotel at a time ;)
In all honesty you are right. Tourism brings in non-local money which helps a lot. My wife and I always try to buy local where ever we go when we travel so we know we are helping out local farmers, shop keepers etc. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Wolters World will be moving back to the US for a few years doing travel america, canada and the carribean (so i hope that might interest you :) though I will be redoing some older videos with new voice overs so there will be "new" Brazil, Argentina and Germany videos. i will miss europe :(

I finally made it to Greece in 2010 and loved everything about it! I also learned enough Greek to get by, which paid off handsomely. You were obviously in Sparta in spring, the perfect time to visit.
I only question your use of the informal "ya sou" instead of "ya sas," the more polite form. I was corrected often by older people on this point, as it was important to them.

The most important phrase currently in Greece.
'' Thélo apódixi '',which means '' I want the receipt''.
According to law, if you do not get a receipt, you may not pay.
A small percentage may try to intimidate you in order to make you to pay without getting a receipt. Do not panic, just pick up your cell phone ,start dialing 100 (= the phone number of police in Greece) and say ''Kaló tin astinomía'', which means ''I am calling the police''.
