  • Join us for an adventure into the Austrian Alps to stay the night in the Ludwig Suite at Schloss Fernsteinsee, a castle compound dating as far back as the 12th century!
    ----
Last week's video - Neuschwanstein Castle: • CASTLE NEUSCHWANSTEIN ...
    ----
In this week's video, we made our way from the beautiful Neuschwanstein Castle in the German Alps to Schloss Fernsteinsee, about 45 minutes away near Nassereith, Austria. This beautiful resort is located amongst an emerald colored lake nestled in between lush mountains. The views here were amazing.
Unfortunately, the specific history of the castle is/was hard to find. But the oldest part of the castle, presumably the now-ruins atop the hill, are as old as the 12th century. The part of the castle we stayed in could potentially be from the same century, or it could be from the 15th century - we're not entirely certain. Regardless, the building we stayed in was at least 600 years old and it showed. The attention to detail, the beautifully restored and designed interior - by far the best "hotel" experience we've ever had. A true gem in the Austrian Alps.
For a relatively fair price of $250 per night, we splurged for a night in the largest of suites - King Ludwig's suite. The massive 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom suite is home to lavish furniture, ornate rugs, and intricate wood work. The beautifully appointed suite was unlike anything we've ever experienced before. The dinner at the cafe was excellent. We enjoyed veal spaetzle made from their own cows - a very farm to table experience.
The following day, we unfortunately had to check out far too early. If we could re-do this trip, we'd certainly spend at least 2-3 more days here - it was that enjoyable. Before we made our trip to Venice, we stopped to say hi to the cattle, eat breakfast and then hopped on a swan peddle boat for a trip out on the beautiful emerald colored water of the nearby lake.
We hope you enjoyed this video - we certainly enjoyed making it! Austria has so much to offer and we can't wait until we can make the journey back. Until then, stay tuned (and subscribe) for more adventures from Europe! Up next, Venice, Italy! Thanks for watching, we'll see you in the next one!

Im thinking of staying here over the summer, do you recall if there is air conditioning? I dont see it on the website but I could be overlooking it.

Definitely recommended, it was easily one of the best parts of our whole trip, wish we had stayed longer. Just reviewed our footage and it does not look like there were any vents/ac units/thermostats. Just a radiator/heater. In the summer months, the average temperature is in the 60s(F) as a high.
