It occurs to me that folks pulling up next to you at lights while you’re chatting away, gesturing with your hands and such must pretty much think your elevator doesn’t quite go to the top floor and, as a benefit, they probably let you go ahead while keeping their distance. :) Love your stuff though!
Hello sir how are you We are the manufacturer and exporter of all kinds of motorbike leather suits, leather motorbike codura suit, motorcycle codura jackets etc at reasonable prices with required custom logo and design if interested let us know
One thing about leather jackets is to make sure to get one that's made specifically for motorcycle riding. True motorcycle leather jackets are made from more heavy duty leather and are sewn together with reinforced stitching and usually have places for back, shoulder and elbow armour. Fashion leather jackets are usually made from lighter, thinner leather and only single stitched so they're much more likely to tear and shred during a crash.
For me it's based on temperature. From about 35 -50 Fahrenheit I wear leather with a thermal lining. From about 50 -70 I wear the same leather jacket without the thermal lining. From about 70 - 95 I wear a perforated leather jacket and over 95 I wear mesh. Mesh doesn't protect as well but it ends up being maybe two months out of the year and I'm one of the very few I see wearing full gear at those temps around here.
My old police chief was rear ended at a red light that all it did was knock him over and break the taillight and one mirror and he was killed. He wasn't wearing a helmet he hit his head on the curb and that was it. Bill was 45
Helmets are an absolute necessity. I did occasionally ride without one, rarely, when I was first getting into street riding but after a couple close calls I am a firm believer in ALWAYS wearing the lid! Too many people have suffered the fate of this police chief- died from minor accidents due to brain injuries that a helmet would have made a walk away accident. Cheers P[>
Sizing is tricky especially for us Americans. We're more used to looser fitting clothing, I just bought a new Alpinestars jacket and pants and it felt tight at first but I then realized that's how it's supposed to fit (more snug) to keep armor and everything in place if I happen to go for a slide. Picking out clothing is tuff for someone like me at 6'3" 200 lbs. But im liking the European cut clothing for sure.
Thank you for another fantastic video! I dumped a HD Street 500 and shredded my cotton, denim jeans, but the textile HD riding jacket shows absolutely zero sign. I think leather would have shown some scuff marks. I wear it in Viet Nam (EXTREMELY hot, humid & MUCHO rain) every time I'm on my bike and the mesh keeps me as cool as possible and absorbs zero water - much cooler than leather.
If any of you like Carhartt work pants then consider getting the Klim Outrider pants. I have a pair of them and they feel just like heavy work pants, but are made specifically for motorcycle riding. They're reinforced with Cordura for abrasion resistance and they come with D3O CE-Level 1 hip and knee armour. Bonus points because they look like regular pants when you're off the bike and walking around.
For the best bang for your buck, I got an inexpensive mesh jacket with some armor. It perfect for the summer because it breathes so well. If it gets colder, I wear a large hoodie over the mesh to block the wind. I have a more expensive leather but I never wear it because I’m afraid it’ll get wet.
Your videos are awesome Dan. I’m saving up for my first bike, and as tempting as it is to spend everything on a bike, I’m following your advice and buying gear first.
I have helmet, gloves, and jacket from riding with my man. Now, it’s my turn to learn to ride!! Thanks for all of the tips!! Signing up for class soon, then bike shopping!!
Hello sir how are you We are the manufacturer and exporter of all kinds of motorbike leather suits, leather motorbike codura suit, motorcycle codura jackets etc at reasonable prices with required custom logo and design if interested let us know
Bro I never thought about the armor being specific. I’ve always assumed the harder (like steel or hard plastic) would be more for protection not sliding! Thanks man, can’t wait to watch more of your content!!
I have a secondhand two piece Berik suite on my 250. Because it was the best protection for the amount of money it cost. I mainly only use the jacket even and it's only for commuting to work at max 110kmph and some traffic for 25km back and forth. By going for this cheaper secondhand leather option I could afford a 5/5 sharp rated helmet and decent shoes and gloves
I ride in all weather.Including raining cat's and dog's, can hardly see rain. I have yet to have my leather coat soak any water. It is just as good as my rain coat. If you oil your leather coat down once a year or so with mink oil, it will never soak any water but it's hot for florida much of the year.
That's a real issue. I have a few leather jackets, I ride in the rain and the cold. You can water proof them somewhat with snowseal, that's my favorite product. But, if your in the weather long enough, it's going to inevitably soak through. That's were textile wins, not in waterproofness, but in that it dries out so much faster than leather. And you can dry it with heat, so you just need to wait.
Few months ago I had a chat with professional racer ..as I have a held gloves ..he said that he always race in held gloves and always safe his hands .. from my experience I must to say ..that it's worth it to check on held ..very comfy too and solid ..
I ride around Phoenix, textile everything with D3O everywhere. The Freeze Out liner from Cycle Gear works great in winter, because it blocks the wind on the positive ventilation side.

I've seen their gear after going down at 70+ on the freeway, and you couldn't hardly tell anything happened. Plus, if you crash and it is somehow damaged, they will repair or replace it for free. Awesome stuff!

I just bought myself a tgb bullet 50cc scooter that I can ride on my car license to work my way up to a bike (need a bike licence and the money for it but I'm saving up 🤣) and your info on jackets has helped so much. I have a kevlar or tough textile with lots of air zips and back, shoulder, elbow and arm armour, its a little tight as its new but i can move well and it gives me a reason to stick to my goal to lose a few kg 😂. My dad is very happy that I have some good protection cause after 15 years as an ambulance officer he's scraped many bikers off the road even a slow speeds.

Leather jackets have a lower call fission of sliding friction then textile jackets. So when you slide on asphalt you will simply slide on your back instead of rolling as you would with a textile
Thanks for the tips. I bought a nice fitting mesh one with high vis accents and padded armour protection in the shoulders, elbows and back. And, it has front and back vents.
I got myself a textile Olympia Richmond. Great jacket, 4 point armor ( back, shoulders, elbows, forearms ) vents on it are awesome!~ I need to get myself some good motorcycle jeans tho, I got some Firstgear Kilimanjaro pants, but only because it was the only thing I could find to fit me at the time. Can't wait till winter and everything comes back in stock.
Hey man, nice video, wanted to check out your gear but the link is not working in your description. can you please share what gloves have on and the jacket?
Could you please suggest which one to choose and why 1. Likes of Revit Dominators GTX - big dollars 2. Jackets such as Hit-Air or Helite with integrated safety airbag 3. Mid range 200-400$ range coupled with separate airbag vests Also a basic question, while riders these days are opting for big dollar jackets yet I don't see much interest in airbag jackets? Were airbag jackets a fad that died down already?
I have a Schott Perfecto-style leather jacket. It doesn't have any armor, but it's made from a tough goat skin,so it would offer some decent protection if I crashed. I think it was the best compromise between what I can afford, what I think looks good, and what offers good protection.
I REALLY like my Leatt protector. Great on dirt. Probably good for the road as well. It’s suuuuper cool and comfy. But jackets are obviously much faster to take on and off. At the cost of not being as cool. Great info! For anyone wondering how necessary gear is, go ride a bicycle with no gear. Just got 20 mph and throw yourself on the ground. Now imagine 60mph and a 400lb bike. And obviously some riders ride faster and bikes weigh more. Gear is kinda expensive but saves your skin and bones. It’s replaceable and even insurance can help, cover your gear in an can’t easily replace skin and body parts. Don’t squid. It’s just not worth it.
I got a black leather jacket specifically because it’s warm and I got it used for real cheap. But I’ll be fine I’m getting a high lighter yellow helmet
As a university Student in the uk who is broke as shit it sucks that I can’t afford a good armoured jacket. I understand that they make make high quality cheaply, but it sucks that my safety is dependent on my wealth.
59.99 US dollars on Amazon KWK brand "Leather Motorcycle Jacket For Men Moto Riding Cafe Racer Vintage Brando Biker Jackets CE Armored" Has Back Elbows and Shoulders armor. It's about the least expensive you can find if even on a budget but it's totally worth it to save your life.
Id certainly love to get a jacket with all the bits and bobs like armor that comes with motorcycle jackets, except literally none ive found are in my size, so i'll have to live with a normal leather jacket that i can customize the measurements on
IDK if you ever found a proper answer for this, but as it turns out DOT is a crap rating system based on decades old studies that that could probably use some updating. The worst part about DOT however, and the reason why I would put zero faith into a helmet that was only DOT certified is because it’s a ‘self certification’ process. That said, any company can test their own equipment to make sure it falls into the DOT standards and then slap a DOT sticker on that helmet. Not that I don’t trust people but... As for SNELL I can tell you that if a company wants something SNELL certified, that item needs to be sent to a facility that does testing (tests conducted are as high or as in most cases above DOT standards) on the equipment. Only after successfully passing will a helmet become SNELL certified.
Shep Dog he has a Shoei hornet x-2 And he rides a 2012 Harley Davidson nightstar sporters. In the description he has a link that goes in detail for all his gear and parts he added on his bike
I went down the other day and hit a guardrail in a pretty good textile jacket. Armor saved my joints nothing broken but my arm got real cut up. Needed some stitches and butterfly bandages in a bunch of spots. I'd love to find some jackets that have good puncture protection. That guardrail tore my arm up lol. Any suggestions on materials?
I’m having a hard time choosing a jacket. I’d like to buy leathers but it’s so hot and humid here in Georgia. I guess I’ll have to sacrifice style for comfort.
southernbelle84 It’s rough isn’t it. What mesh jacket do you suggest? (I’m new to motorcycles)I think I’ll be taking most of my rides in North Georgia near Jasper and Blue Ridge. Just to keep away from the Atlanta area traffic.
@@jacobramsey1800 I have a bilt jacket and bf had a joe rocket mesh. Both are armored and do their job. We are a little n of atl and love riding up here by ball ground. Good luck and stay safe. Have you gotten a bike yet?
While I don’t have any experience, and I am happy to be corrected, my thinking is that step one will be to decide on what impact protection you want. Step two to find a jacket that will accommodate that armour and of course have the necessary abbreviation resistance.
Hey, long time but any chance you could link or just name the jacket and helmet you were using in this video? Really like the black and white color scheme and keeps cars from ironing me on the road for not seeing lol
Other riders probably look at me funny cause I rock my ADV Rukka gear on my MT-07, just too damn cheap to buy another set when I'm riding the MT and not the Tiger haha
Clicked the link to see what gear you have but nothing came up on your link. No data? Is their an updated list? I wanted to see what Jacket and gloves you rock.
Hey Daniel big question? I have a chopper and want to get a nice mesh type of jacket w armour? or light leather for summer, also glove recommendation? im 64 ,what would you suggest?
Does anyone have a suggestion for a jacket for an electric scooter? I’ll be cruising at about 30 mph regularly and riding at least three seasons hopefully four. In Maine.
I'm trying to get into riding and will be buying my first bike semi-soon. I may be dumb but is there a jacket that combines leather and mesh? So that some areas of it are leather and some are mesh?
I remember walking into my bosses office and I was like damn boss something stinks really bad.... He said he couldn’t smell anything doesn’t notice anything that smells bad. So I started sniffing around until I got near his closet and I said it’s in here and then when he opened it there was only one thing in there it was his leather riding jacket and that thing smelled so bad. And he used it to get to work that morning. But he didn’t smell like that and least from a few feet away I couldn’t tell but his jacket I smelled from a closed closet from across a room... so I’ll never get a leather one.
What about about using motocross mesh armor jackets .. essentially those you wear under jackets or over a shirt or even under shirts some times.. just been considering it since where I am is getting ridiculous hot and my leather seems to be an entire cow put into a single jacket which is fine except.. it's hot as hell
Hey Daniel thxs for the 2 minutes of fame ;-) every1 on discord are awesome.. luvem all :-) and again another killer video .. ride safe

Inertia doesn’t stop you. It keeps you going. Good vid!
Really cool video, absolutely tons of info I learnt a lot.....start bike training next month. Thanks man.
What gloves are you wearing dan? Love the color.
I’m having a hard time choosing a jacket. I’d like to buy leathers but it’s so hot and humid here in Georgia. I guess I’ll have to sacrifice style for comfort.
I'm in georgia too.. I had to buy a mesh but still armored, a bilt. It's rough in that heat, humidity and traffic. Ride safe
southernbelle84 It’s rough isn’t it. What mesh jacket do you suggest? (I’m new to motorcycles)I think I’ll be taking most of my rides in North Georgia near Jasper and Blue Ridge. Just to keep away from the Atlanta area traffic.
southernbelle84 It’s also a really nice area.
@@jacobramsey1800 I have a bilt jacket and bf had a joe rocket mesh. Both are armored and do their job. We are a little n of atl and love riding up here by ball ground. Good luck and stay safe. Have you gotten a bike yet?
@@jacobramsey1800 check out fortnine and mc rider as well. Ddfm is my fav for one on one chats in his videos, hands on, patreon, discord etc.
While I don’t have any experience, and I am happy to be corrected, my thinking is that step one will be to decide on what impact protection you want. Step two to find a jacket that will accommodate that armour and of course have the necessary abbreviation resistance.
Dan man, i need to know what helmet ate you using, it looks G R E A T
You are really good at vlogging 🤙🏼
Hey, long time but any chance you could link or just name the jacket and helmet you were using in this video? Really like the black and white color scheme and keeps cars from ironing me on the road for not seeing lol
Other riders probably look at me funny cause I rock my ADV Rukka gear on my MT-07, just too damn cheap to buy another set when I'm riding the MT and not the Tiger haha
this is a long shot since it's an old video but what helmet are you wearing in this video? the visor looks huge. must have great line of sight.
He says to get hi vis jacket, while im looking at getting a bright red kawasaki ninja 400
What jacket is on the thumbnail of this video? it has a sherpa collar.
Jesse Tillotson it looks like a saint denim jacket
Jesse Tillotson saints unbreakable jacket
Clicked the link to see what gear you have but nothing came up on your link. No data? Is their an updated list? I wanted to see what Jacket and gloves you rock.
Great video. Very good info.
Could you please tell me whats the motorcycle helmet you are using?
Dude what jacket is that in the thumbnail?👀
Hey Daniel big question? I have a chopper and want to get a nice mesh type of jacket w armour? or light leather for summer, also glove recommendation? im 64 ,what would you suggest?
What's the jacket in the thumbnail?
Wouldn't it be ddtfm not ddfm?
Hello Dan keep your videos coming !!!
Does anyone have a suggestion for a jacket for an electric scooter? I’ll be cruising at about 30 mph regularly and riding at least three seasons hopefully four. In Maine.
that blue SS jacket came straight from the 90's jesus.....
hey tim!
Would a Roland sands leather jacket look trash riding a full blacked out drz400?
Hello Dan, what mirror are you using?
I have seen some great jackets at Motofever when i visited Dubai and trust me guys those were amazing. Going to purchase very soon.👍👍
Dan, what's your helmet? Been looking for that kind :/
What jacket would you recommend in Southern California where it’s really hot in summer
Good way to get a cheap leather jacket is to go to goodwill I spent 15$ on a nice thick leather jacket that I looked up and was 120$ new
I’m thinking motorcycle or bomber which should I get tell me Pro and con
What about about using motocross mesh armor jackets .. essentially those you wear under jackets or over a shirt or even under shirts some times.. just been considering it since where I am is getting ridiculous hot and my leather seems to be an entire cow put into a single jacket which is fine except.. it's hot as hell
Great timing! I was literally just about to go check out new jackets!
You can get a great deal on a mesh jacket in these winter months. I did!
How do you like the REAX APEX PRO? ( after a few years of use?)
