TWO CHORDS, man, TWO DAMN CHORDS turned into a MASTERPIECE!!!! And this version, GOD!!! They nailed it!!!! It is EXTRAORDINARY...The organ sounds like heaven!!!!! REM Forever!!!
3 years later. This is one of the best songs they've written and just in general. Yup Two (2) chords and the vocals find something hidden there...Is there a chorus or bridge or hook...it's an enigma? It's such a good upbeat song with maybe drama behind it but it's so good and your right they nailed it. Cheers if not a few years late.
I often wonder how many times Mike Mills has sung the word "aahhh" or "uhhh" in his REM career. It is staggering how he makes them so truly meaningful somehow...
@@freakodeluxe i guarantee you 85 percent of people who named the top 10 best bands evee r.e.m. would not be in it. Floyd, beatles, stones, queen, acdc, zeppelin, doors, nirvana, u2, black sabbath, ccr, etc. I saw a list from an official music ranker where r.e.m. was 81 and linkin park(who i also enjoy) was in the 20s. They really dont get the respect from generation ti generation that they rightfully deserve
Honestly, I never expected R.E.M. to attempt this GREAT song "live", due to Kate's harmonies. Mike actually does a commendable job; considering who he was attempting to replace. Kate is just magnificent in everything she does; from the B-52's, to R.E.M, to Iggy Pop, etc., etc.
when rock was alive and music had a soul that resonated with its people and REM was on top of the world, and the great heartbeat of the Stipe revelers skipped across lives great pageantry and wandered in a lost oasis of euphoric musical splendor, that will never grace our ears again in this life time. I am glad as a boy I was witness to it through proxy, and now can appreciate how magical it truly was; and I do indeed.
One thing I read in a comment on another R.E.M. song was an alternate interpretation of the band's name. From what I understand Stipe picked it by random from a dictionary. As most of us know, R.E.M. means rapid eye movement. Another fan suggested Remember Every Moment. And now, whenever I listen to R.E.M., I think of that interpretation and I am given a whole new level of pleasure and enjoyment as I associate my life with one of my favorite musical artists for many years now.
Even heavier than a break-up, the song is actually about a would-be father finding out that the woman had an abortion without telling him. Definitely the most chipper-sounding song about that.
Buck is one of the great riff makers of all time and this insistent, hypnotic riff is one of his best. For me this and Belong are the two standout songs on the album. Perfection
Loved the album out of time so love this song. Micheal voice an Mike's harmonious are just ...mwah. can't decide him or Kates vocals, both just great. Being from England thus album was massive back then.
On the album track on this song, listen to the very end when Kate's voice goes way up on the final note and she holds the note as the song fades out...I love that part, amazing voice she has.
LOL was watching til the end to see if Mike would be able to hit Kate's octave switch on the last note. He didn't even try! One of my favorite tunes from these guys :)
It's weird how much Mike manages to sound like Kate, actually. When I first heard this version, I thought they were just playing the recorded vocals back.
I sat there looking ugly, looking ugly and mean I knew what you were saying, you were saying to me Baby's got some new rules Baby said she's had it with me It seems a shame to waste your time on me It seems a lot to waste your time for me Left me to love What it's doing to me There's a lot of honey in this world Baby this honey's from me You've got to do what you do Do it with me It seems a shame to waste your time for me Left me to love What it's doing to me Knocked silly, knocked flat, sideways down These things they pick you up and they turn you around Say your piece Say you're sweet for me It's all the same to share the pain with me It's all the same, save the shame for me Left me to love What it's doing to me Baby's got some new rules Baby says she's had it with me There's a fly in the honey And baby's got a baby with me That's a part, that's a part of me Left me to love What it's doing to me Left me to love What it's doing to me What about me? What about me?
There's a fly in my honey, my baby's got a baby with me........I met my daughter's dad at an R.E.M. gig and the band sent a tiny baby R.E.M. Tshirt and baby gro- such lovely guys! Lucky enough to meet them backstage a few times, awesome memories!
I culd never sing like Michael Stipe but my cover of this was out of love for the song and nobody else has covered this on YTube. The lyrics and melody are brilliant. This was always my favourite song on Out Of Time.
Gotta agree with cavaseverino, this is one their most underrated songs, I always think of the Beatles when I listen to this song, no idea why, but it's one hell of a compliment.
@CrazyCat9898 This song is from their album Out of Time. This is a really great version of this song. Kate Pierson of The B-52's adds backing vocals on the album version
Do you think Peter got a bit bored of playing the same chords over again!? This song is great. Love Mike Mills doing the backing vocals, he sounds good!

💯
yes!!!! well, country feedback is 4 chords in a loop

As many time as John McCrea from CAKE has said “oh yeah… uh-huh…”
Nothing a Kate Pearson couldn’t fix!!
Underrated song from one of the most underrated SUPERSTAR bands of all time.
One of my all time favorite driving songs
Would never say REM are underrated. Soundtrack to my early teens

@@freakodeluxe I Agree
Murmur is one of the 10 greatest albums ever recorded
Mike Mills. One of my most favorite harmony singers.
very much this...he nails it every damn time
One of the very rare bands who consistently sound even better live than on record.
Honestly, I never expected R.E.M. to attempt this GREAT song "live", due to Kate's harmonies. Mike actually does a commendable job; considering who he was attempting to replace. Kate is just magnificent in everything she does; from the B-52's, to R.E.M, to Iggy Pop, etc., etc.
way too electric and fast. Still love this song and this band!
Kate's a star.
It’s brilliant isn’t it
Mike nailed it.
Whoa - Mike blew me away! Granted he's no Kate, but he did a great job.
My favorite Out of Time track by a mile! Great song 👌🏼
I have to go with Half a World Away, then this and Country Feedback are #2 depending on my mood.
All My Favorites
Agreed!
Favourite from Up?
Great song from a great album.
Mike Mills is just excellent here, god I love him, and I'm a guy..
I started playing bass because of him; thank you!
This song is my favorite R.E.M. tune, I only play it in the summer. It reminds of of being free and young in my early twenties.
These guys and their music stands up so well, after all the years.
Marvellous. Mike does Kate pretty damn well.

+Kenneth Hufnagel For me, Out of time did it..ones of the bands i'll take with me up there
Possibly the greatest internet comment I have ever read.
What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Tom Hyslop agree!,
one of the most chipper break up songs. still brings a tear to my eye and a lump in my throat.
Even heavier than a break-up, the song is actually about a would-be father finding out that the woman had an abortion without telling him. Definitely the most chipper-sounding song about that.
Yeah, I didn't think that they could pull this great song off in concert with Kate, but Mike's so damn versatile, he pulls it off great!
Mike Mills is so good! The fact that he's brilliant and get's overlooked as a vocalist, bassist and songwriter is criminal!
you have to be a great musician to make such a simple melody into a powerful song
Or just drop a Hammond in there somewhere....😊😉🙃
the studio recording of this, is as close to perfect as ive heard. an incredible song that gives me a full body thrill everytime. my heart explodes.
A bit too fast.
I love it, but I love the recording with the synth in it more.
Couldn't agree more!
It is so powerful it feels like there's going to be an explosion
Buck is one of the great riff makers of all time and this insistent, hypnotic riff is one of his best.

Encore une superbe chanson MERCI pour tant d'originalité.son et voie sublimes 💝💝💝💝
Best band I ever had in the catalog. Michael I swear u talked 2 me since 19186 I hold u close.
mike mills is an amazing musician...and this is an awesome song, representantive of what rem is about
What a beautiful song thank u REM M.Stipe love for ever.. Danielle❤❤❤❤

God I love u guys. Wish u could come to Detroit. God.
Wishes Might Come True
Michael's voice held up remarkably well over the years, particularly considering he was a lifelong smoker.
I am almost 50 . Out of time was mine first CD ever bought. and mine legs still cant stop moving listening. MUST BE GOOD MUSIC FELLAS!
REM MUST RETURN !!!
joencaster I know! Was a sad day when they split! My daughter wouldn't be here only for them!
My favorite REM song! Brings me back to when I lived in the UK in the early 90s
On the album track on this song, listen to the very end when Kate's voice goes way up on the final note and she holds the note as the song fades out...I love that part, amazing voice she has.
This is the single easiest song I know of on guitar, and I absolutely love it.
Excellent song 🎵
Definitely one of their best songs.
one their simplest (2 chords!)
yet most passionate songs!!!...
Was there. Could not believe I got to hear near wild Heaven as well as You in the same show. Not sure it ever happened again.
Such an unorthodox way for a song but it’s genius and delicious all at the same time , what a dude Phil is

Mike does a great job, but I miss Kate.
yes
Indeed...but still great as you said👍
Agreed. Mike does an awesome job replacing Kate's vocals.
Did Kate ever join them and sing live?
@@DJdextt On Saturday Night Live for Shiny Happy People. Don't know about this song.
Een prettig nummer om naar te luisteren

Another GREAT song by a GREAT band!
I wish I could have seen them live.
GREAT SONG!
I sat there looking ugly, looking ugly and mean
I knew what you were saying, you were saying to me
Baby's got some new rules
Baby said she's had it with me
It seems a shame to waste your time on me
It seems a lot to waste your time for me
Left me to love
What it's doing to me
There's a lot of honey in this world
Baby this honey's from me
You've got to do what you do
Do it with me
It seems a shame to waste your time for me
Left me to love
What it's doing to me
Knocked silly, knocked flat, sideways down
These things they pick you up and they turn you around
Say your piece
Say you're sweet for me
It's all the same to share the pain with me
It's all the same, save the shame for me
Left me to love
What it's doing to me
Baby's got some new rules
Baby says she's had it with me
There's a fly in the honey
And baby's got a baby with me
That's a part, that's a part of me
Left me to love
What it's doing to me
Left me to love
What it's doing to me
What about me?
What about me?
I forgot how really good this band was.
One of my favourite songs.

Fantastic song. Michael stipe. ..Brilliant. Brings bk so much memories

This is one of the best R.e.m songs. It's a little bit Country and a lot of Rock n Roll!!
Mike's just the best..

the definition of good alternative music
hot, florid, cool, honest and faithful. god bless the flower and the bee of southern hospitality. amen.
stupenda
"There's a fly in the honey, baby's got a baby with me"
Uncharacteristically (for Michael Stipe) direct and heartbreaking.
great two-chord groove - in their top 5
Do you think Peter got a bit bored of playing the same chords over again!?
This song is great. Love Mike Mills doing the backing vocals, he sounds good!
