Reformulations are often due to restrictions in certain chemicals by IFRA. Sometimes old formulations contain those chemicals, but in order to make them safe again the formulation has to be redone. I'm assuming this is the case.
I don’t understand why every designer house is releasing sweet sickly fragrances. Everything smells pretty much the same nowadays, flanker after flanker. Dior is sadly going in the same direction. It’s confusing for the customer too, the market is completely saturated.
I met my husband in 2014. He wore DHP, and no fragrance had ever impressed me as much as that perfume. I always joke with my husband, telling him that I married him thanks to DHP. It makes me very sad to think that I’ll never be able to enjoy that hypnotizing scent again-the best perfume ever created.
If Sebastian can find many backup bottles ( he has at least seven I think), you can too! I also have a few discontinued backup bottles of fragrances I like.
I have seen hundreds, if not a thousand fragrance youTube videos and this is one of the best videos I have seen on the platform. I agree with Sebastian on everything here. There's no doubt in my mind that Kurkdjian doesn't have creative control anymore and that Dior (& Creed too unfortunately) has let the marketing department take control of what's being released. Get this guy to 300k.
Sebastian, I really feel the pain of what they have done to your number 1 gem. While I am not a lover of this particular line, I can equate the pain of a cherished item being totally ruined. Your passion over the years is quite clear and consistent. I am glad two years ago, you were able to completely stock up. Your passion actually made me get a bottle. And.. it is awesome, just not Bernard Chant 1972 Aramis Awesome😂 (for me). I think Dior owes you an original custom 200ml bottle for this betrayal! Be well! Cheers! 😂🤣
In a way, if it's true about Kurkdjian being told what to do with his fragrances, it would be like musical artist being told what to do with their songs/compositions by a producer. Very sad.
Thank you very much for this. Do you have any suggestions for how to search for, identify, and purchase older versions of DHP and DHI? These are both the few that I never purchased when given the opportunity during previous releases and I regret dearly. Thank you again for the great content as always!
1) I got a chance to smell the new formulation (2025). 2) I set out to find some stores that still sold the previous version. 3) I found a Sephora in Verona (147 km from my home here in Italy) that still had two bottles. 4) I started the car and went to buy both immediately. *The curtain falls*
Hi Sebastian, I just subscribed to your channel. I really enjoy the content on your channel. I purchased Miss Dior 2024 and I absolutely adore it. I purchased Dior Rivera and I agree with you, it’s just ok. My next purchase is Vanilla Diorama. I basically bought Dior Rivera because it was formulated by MFK. Thanks for the video
yep, i feel the same, that FK not allowed to do his thing, instead of him somebody else makes these duds... if we compare his work at MFK and at DIOR, it is like two totally different nose behind those!
Hi Sebastian, At the end of this video you asked if DHP was changed because it was not selling. I just wanna say that it would be very strange if that was the reason coz Dior was not doing much to sell it in the first place. One had to ASK if they have it in stock because normally they kept it in drawers and not on display like other Dior fragrances. At least that had been my experience in the past few years when buying DHP. I found that very strange. And for them to now come back and (maybe)say the perfume wasn't selling is just weird.
The original is very elegant, comforting, inviting and just a great scent I currently have a 100lm bottle. Haven’t smelled the new one yet but a friend of mine has and said it’s a hard pass
Hi there 😀 Well thanks for your shout-out 👍 FK works at Dior is just the most mediocrity at his best! He's the inhouse Perfumer if he's just there to ruin the work of de machy them he'd better to quit! I think this guy he's done & he's even ruined his own reputation! The new Dior Homme Parfum is just a crap & it's already on discounters in France! The new Dior Homme intense has also changed & it's more ambery & less irisy 👎 who's the next victim of FK? 🤔 By the way I'm also very disappointed by the work of Oliver Polge at Chanel👎 they're both there to reformulate & cut costs! thanks for your frankness mate 🙏 😊 Ps Dior should bring back Dior Homme Parfum original!
Hey Seb As an owner of the previous version of DH Parfum. I, to was surprised on the reformulation change of 2025. To me, it smelt like a mix of amarni code and stronger with you absolutely in the dry down. It's not a horrible fragrance, I feel it maybe aming for a younger audience, for the person who is not a collector but buys the occasional frangrance that is designer mass appealing. It will never beat the previous versions , but for someone that does not know how good it was, he or she will buy it. Me included. Did they change DH Intese in 2020?
They say the DHI was only a bottle change, but I and many others with me noticed a difference. The 2025 has been anounced as only a bottle change, but we know how that can go at Dior🥲
I agree with Sebastian on this one , I tried the new Dior Homme Parfum yesterday and I'm happy that I have a bottle of the Demachy formulation. I'm not even mad at the fact that FK wanted to go in another direction with the Dior Homme Parfum DNA (DHP 2025 is not a bad fragrance but it is just average to me) but the new one doesn't even smell luxurious, like other Dior fragrances , if we take the example of Dior Homme 2020 was criticized a lot a few years ago but at least it had that luxurious vibe all Dior previous release had. If you take Prada for example all fragrances from the brand are different but there is a cohesiveness between all the fragrance from the brand and a specific signature from the in house perfumer Daniela Andrier . Unfortunately since FK and Dior it is not the case yet.
My opinion is that IFRA will prohibit the use of certain chemicals that are used for existing fragrances, hence the reformulations. Although that does not explain the uncreative releases and focus on mass-appeal. I also think they want to go extremely mainstream (even more than before) with cheaply produced mass-appealing fragrances. ETA: maybe alcohol-free fragrances are being pushed lately because water as a base is probably much cheaper compared to alcohol.
When the news first came out that FK would replace FD back then, I had a bad feeling this was going to happen and what a damn shame what FK did to FD's legacy!!
MFK is 2-1 so far. He did do J'adore l'Or which is definitely the best version now in my opinion. The Eau Forte on the rare (very very rare now) occasion it sells it has an over 50% return rate.
One week ago I found to buy a 250 ml eau noire green juice! I like it a lot but from Dior DHP is the King 👑 11 bottles that I have since a few years ago ! Hearing rumors to be discontinued, and I went savage to buy this mastepiece❤
I am 100% in agreement and I honestly never saw this a good move for Dior. I was reasonably concerned that Francis could not truly give his all to another brand even if they are owned by the same company. It would be no surprise if my beloved Sauvage Elixir gets nerfed at some point.
I have been to many many focus groups. Never about fragrance but food items and everything else in between. So I'm assuming even beauty brands, fragrance in this case do focus groups as well. But I'm not 100% correct. Just guessing.
@ another one of the esprite scents, Ambre Nuit seems to be very popular with enthusiasts along with the one you meantined, Rouge Trafalgar. Seems pretty heady!
FK already reformulated DH 2020, DH Original, DHI and DH Cologne The formula codes all changed in 2024 except DHP. Now he's released an entire new fragrance. DHI is definitely going to be a new one
I disagree. I get everyone wants it to be unique. This is more mass appealing but this is a great fragrance. It’s not sickly sweet the iris is still there. Actually go out and test the fragrance for yourself. I trust Sebastian’s nose but I think this is a good fragrance. The main reason they changed it is because people would go into the store and not buy it. DHP is for seasoned collectors. This version will sell and that is the goal.
When is the supposed rough estimated date for Dior Homme Intense supposed be out so i can get the current version? Funds are a bit tight so i have to wait until the end of the month.
Sad to see Dior go from trend setting to trend chasing. Whilst I can understand that DHP might’ve not been a big money maker for the brand, why could DHP25 have not just been released as a flanker?
I was at a fragrance shop and the person at counter said the Sauvage Eau Forte is supposed to be a layering composition. To layer with the other Sauvages. Anyone tried that? I didnt buy it.
Have a sample of DHP 2025 coming... But there is no way it can measure up to the OG... You can't replace a masterpiece that doesn't even resemble what it's replacing.
Hey Sebastian, I tried this new version last week, and I am thoroughly disappointed. It smells like invictus, Carolina Herrera, born in roma Flanders. It's a mess IMO
I picked up a few bottles of the OG Parfum from Beauty House. The first one was $170 and once I got it and made sure it was legit I ordered 2 more and they were $190. No issues fast delivery. That being said there are idiots on eBay listing it for $1,300. I filtered it and looked at the solds and several bottles are selling for $400-$500. I’m not talking vintage or silver stem I’m talking middle of last year Batches.
I’m actually surprised that the Dior homme parfum 2025 isn’t actually a follow up to the Dior homme we currently have have released here in the states. Also is it possible that the Dior homme parfum we have here is for American and or western markets and the older Dior homme parfum will remain a euro release as it always has been? Just a thought.
@ dang. Well you know what I have 2 bottles of the now discontinued parfum so it’s really not a concern. Just makes it more of a unicorn than it already is. Here in the US the general public doesn’t know about it so it’s completely an original scent even if the frag heads have known about it for years.
I’m pretty sure that Demachy use heliotropes in DHP. And does anybody know if FK has the certification to handle heliotropes? The reformulation might happened because he didn’t have certification for handling it.
Hi Sebastian. There are so many fragrances with similar scent profiles on the market. Do you still collect similar scents if they are great or complete a collection?
Hasta cuándo lo dulce lo Gourmand las lavandas imieladas... que vuelvan los fougeres, los aromas originales y masculinos. Queremos más de diseñador, lo que en los noventas y ochentas nos lograba sorprender.
I am one of the few that actually likes Eau Forte. It’s my second favorite in the Sauvage line right behind the Elixer. The new Homme Parfum I do not like though. I only smelled it once and I didn’t like it at all. I need to give it another shot though.
I'm praying that Dior retains the old Parfum as per the EDT Original - the change caught me out, and alas, I wasn't able to pick up a back up bottle of the Parfum. I still haven't smelt the new Parfum but will next week when heading to Brussels. I also wish I had bought the 125ml bottles of Ambre Nuit and Tobacolor a few months ago. I wasn't aware the bottles were being reduced to 100ml with Dior charging the same price. It's rather mean of them. Overall, I'm not overly impressed with Dior at the moment.
I have DH Original, Bois d'Argent and Gris Dior. Came too late to have DH Perfume. As far as I'm concerned, given the price increases, discontinued perfumes and bad reformulations, I'm done with Dior.
I don’t know the rumor is it’s the same. Some people looked up the formula. They said it’s the same formula. Some people smell that they said it’s the same. I can’t really say anything about it until I sample it myself. All I could say is what I’ve heard from others. 😀
I remember when everyone cried about DHP 2020. ...you think they're crying now? ... or you think they're praising it to the high heavens? ... and there was quite a lot that hated on Demachy as well when he joined Dior. anyways, I'm glad I got 4 bottles of the 75ml and 100ml. but looking forward to getting a bottle of DHP 2025. I enjoyed Eau Forte, surprisingly.
Sebastian, I know that you have on your chanel a lot videos with intreviewing others fragrances brand and it will be great idea if you try to ask house from Christian Dior to take an interview if is it possible to get answers from a lot questions what is gone wrong with Dior fragrances.
No oud, no rose, no leather. The way the OG was able to make those blend with the rest and smell so great is what MADE the frag. The iris dies very quickly, the drydown is generic and VERY sweet.
No intro music? Lol .. even the 2014 version, I thought when Valentino UI came out it was a touch more masculine, sexy.. still DHP was a great scent. Ahead of its time for sure!
If they wanted to keep the Dior Homme lone trendy and mass appealing , why not make an Elixir flanker instead? They could have kept the og parfum while having the trendy elixir flanker
I haven’t smelled the Parfum yet, but since everything he has done so far is disaster, I don’t have high hopes. I do have Cologne Blanche and I like it a lot. From the Esprit I actually like Lucky ( never been fan of) and Gris Dior. I just bought couple bottles of Amber Nuit just in case he would want destroy it just like the esprit version.
To me DHP 2025’s opening smells like Armani Code Parfum and the dry-down smells like Azzaro The Most Wanted EDT Intense (the newest one). Nothing new and no wow factor for me.
Ok smelled Dior Homme Parfum 2025 today on paper. It does not remind me that much of Prada L'Homme, rather the Givenchy Society EDP Extreme. The latter however has a tinge that to me smells like stinkbugs. The Dior at least does not bother me with that, and seems brighter but it made me think of that line, not the Prada's. Does not smell super polished to me, maybe a bit synthetic? It also kind of brought to mind Zara 9.0, which was a clone of DHI. I see on Fragrantica some compare it to JPG Le Male Le parfum or Ultra Male, to me nope, neither Prada nor the JPG's but more the Givenchy Society line. On second though, if I think about it, maybe some distant Ultra Male hints, which is also an FK fragrance after all.
I’m beginning to think the real reason François Demachy left Dior is that they showed him the direction they wanted to go in, and he disagreed. These new Dior launches are disappointing.
Well he knows the formula to make this scent, he could make this for what 5 dollar ? 10 maybe and sell it for 35 and 100.000 people would buy it blind 😂

These "reformulations" should be released as flankers, not as replacements.
This like for example Dior Homme EDP
Reformulations are often due to restrictions in certain chemicals by IFRA. Sometimes old formulations contain those chemicals, but in order to make them safe again the formulation has to be redone. I'm assuming this is the case.
I tapped out of following Dior Homme for this exact reason.

Flankers!? Guerlain petit robe noire……there must be 30 plus

Francois Demachy is underrated! He did a fantastic job at Dior!
Totally agree!
He made them into top 2 fragrance designer house, alongside Chanel. Now both brands are in decline..
He is a way better perfumer than Kurkdijan.
@@jwill8759woah. Let’s not blame FK for Dior trying to make a profit

This isn't very complicated. This is in favour of retaining stockholder value, that is, cheap ingredients = higher profits for LVMH.

You’re on the right track.

I have DH Original, Bois d'Argent and Gris Dior. Came too late to have DH Perfume. As far as I'm concerned, given the price increases, discontinued perfumes and bad reformulations, I'm done with Dior.
It wouldn't surprise me if FK changes the Sauvage EDT formulation in the next few years.
The dior homme line has been massacred. None of them have anything to do with the other except DH2020 and DH sport.
I bought the intense of the men’s Dior is it any good to the regular one ?
Now, Sebastian... the discontinue gossip apparently had some truth in it, eh? The old DHP is pretty much dead
Do you really think DHI will remain the same? I doubt it. Why would they change everything else but leave DHI the same?!
I don’t know the rumor is it’s the same. Some people looked up the formula. They said it’s the same formula. Some people smell that they said it’s the same. I can’t really say anything about it until I sample it myself. All I could say is what I’ve heard from others. 😀
Prices are up. Quality is missing a bit
I'm not sure anyone at Dior would want to speak to me anymore after my complaints about the brand. Haha!! ;)
Pre DHP 2025 it was a maasterpiece! Not it's just a boring old release. Sadly! I left the music off. Just felt that today.
@ThePerfumeGuy I feel ya. When mont blanc discontinued legend intense, when YSL completely reformed L'homme parfum intense, etc etc the music stops 😆
It means that FK is an employee, and he's going in the direction his employer wants him to take their company.
If they wanted to keep the Dior Homme lone trendy and mass appealing , why not make an Elixir flanker instead?
They could have kept the og parfum while having the trendy elixir flanker
Mr Kurkdjian must be aware of all the influencers' love of DHP! Why do they get rid of it?
I don't get it either. Dumb decision on their part.
Do you think they’ll come up with Dior Homme Parfum 2025 original
I don't think so but who knows. Maybe. Anything is possible these day!!
Anyone knows of a reputable place that still has some bottles?
Hi Seb. DHP was a masterpiece. Unfortunately Dior is heading in a strange direction like many other designers. MFK should’ve done better.
I've had the same reaction to every Armani I've smelled over the last 3 years. "Make it sweeter, make it cheaper" is ruining these houses.
Not too much of a fan of Armani since it is L'Oreal after all. I feel Dior is going down that same aisle. :(
plus, you can say lower version ,lower quantity also 75 ml with 200 $ so strange and not not "PARFUM" its normal perfume
Will they bring back the original DHP?
Doubt it. But anything is possible.
This whole thing wouldn't be that big of an issue if it was called Dior Homme Prive
I just don’t get why they would give it the same name? Should be Homme forte or something
Or Dior homme EDP for instance!
Exactly no wow factor at all!
I give it a 7 out 10. It's definitely not worth the ridiculous price
Sebastian is VERY upset 😢
I am! :(
I’m beginning to think the real reason François Demachy left Dior is that they showed him the direction they wanted to go in, and he disagreed. These new Dior launches are disappointing.
He could have been pushed out too. We will never know.
Well he knows the formula to make this scent, he could make this for what 5 dollar ? 10 maybe and sell it for 35 and 100.000 people would buy it blind 😂
The new one reminds me of little princess it’s floral and fruit
