The Human League started off as an all male group from Sheffield, but split after creative differences. Other members of the group left to form Heaven 17, who did well in the UK. Some notable songs from them are Tempation, I'm Your Money and Play to Win.
The rest of The Human League picked up the remaining songs, took on Joanne and Susan (whobwere just randomly dancing in a bar in Sheffield one night) and completed the album Dare! A throwaway song was written for the back end of the album. The record label convinced Phil Oakey to release it instead of Seconds, another song on the album. He relented and Dont You Want Me? Helped propel them to stardom.
This album was all over the place.
The Human League didn't get on with Jam and Lewis at all. J&L tried to replace the girls out of the group at one point, and the album didn't do well commercially. Despite this, Human did well, but it took another 2 albums to be successful again.

One of the greatest songs of the 80s IMO!!! So deep about seeking love outside of your relationship while you were apart and admitting it. Just amazing.

A very human reaction 😎! Human was released as the lead single from The Human League's 1986 album: Crash. It was written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The song reached #1 on the Hot 100, Dance chart, Adult Contemporary chart and #3 on the R&B chart. As well as, being a top 10 hit in many different countries around the world. The music video was directed by Andy Morahan in London, England. Philip Oakey is singing the lead vocals and Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis studio session singer Lisa Keith is singing the background vocals. This didn't go over well with Susan Ann Sulley and Joanne Catherall, so Terry Lewis created the spoken-word part for Joanne Catherall to recite. Susan Ann Sulley mimes the singing in the video.
In this song, a guy is coming clean after cheating on his girl, telling her he only did it to fill the empty void inside him while they were apart. He comforts her, assuring her, "No one else could ever take your place." His excuse is a lame one, but it's all he's got: "I'm only human."
Later in the song, we hear from the woman, who reveals that she also cheated on him while they were away. She's human too.
Terry Lewis came up with the concept by thinking about how cheating men tend to either get caught or spill their guts, while women who cheat are better at hiding their secrets.
    The Human League Info 📰:
The Human League are an English synth-pop band formed in Sheffield, England in 1977. Initially an experimental electronic outfit, the group signed to Virgin Records in 1979 and later attained widespread commercial success with their third album: Dare, in 1981 after restructuring their lineup. The album contained four hit singles, including the UK/US number one hit "Don't You Want Me". The band received the Brit Award for Best British Breakthrough Act in 1982. Further hits followed throughout the 1980s and into the 1990s, including "Mirror Man", "(Keep Feeling) Fascination", "The Lebanon", "Human" (a second US No. 1) and "Tell Me When".
Since 1978, The Human League have released 9 studio albums, a remix album, a live album, 6 EPs, 29 singles and 13 compilation albums. They have had 6 Top 20 albums and 13 Top 20 singles in the UK and had sold more than 20 million records worldwide by 2010. As an early techno-pop act that received extensive MTV airplay, they are regarded as one of the leading artists of the 1980s Second British Musical Invasion of the US.
The only constant band member since 1977 has been lead singer and songwriter Philip Oakey. Keyboard players Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh both left the band in 1980 to form the group: Heaven 17. Under Philip Oakey's leadership, The Human League then evolved into a commercially successful new wave pop band, with a new line-up including female vocalists Joanne Catherall and Susan Ann Sulley. Since the mid-1990s, the band have essentially been a trio of: Philip Oakey, Joanne Catherall and Susan Ann Sulley, with various band members for recording-live performances over time.
The Human League still tours in 2023 with a core group line-up consisting of 👨‍🎤👩‍🎤🧑‍🎤:

A smash hit song produced by the great team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. I’ve loved this song well over 30 years, and it’s still in my permanent playlist. Please try a reaction to The Brand New Heavies and their dong “Never Stop”.

@David Barnes Please, no. The last thing we need are reactions to musicians’ “dongs” (sic).
