My Dad was a student here when it was Faith Theological Seminary in the 1950s & 1960s. I can remember wandering around inside the vast hallways and rooms, it was gorgeous. I've seen other recent videos where it is in tatters compared to the beauty I remember.

I was inside this property back in the 90's when a presbtery in PA/NJ owned it and rented out the chapel to a Korean
group to hold services. The owner had already striped and sold off large portions of the interior. Absolutely criminal.

Anyone is welcome to restore these wrought iron gates by simply bringing a large painters tarp to work on and a couple guys and gals and a gallon of furniture beeswax and several sizes of stiff bristle brushes to stab the wax into all crevices of the iron work. Wax is safe and isn’t a paint. Painting is a no-no as it isn’t your property. I would first use the roughest steel wool and a wire crush to remove all the rusting. Another option would be motor oil thinned down with 50% turpentine and then applied with an (industrial)sprayer…like an Ironing sprayer used by the maid. I find them quite versatile. Just don’t get the oil on the Indiana Limestone gate posts. This task needs doing on the whole perimeter, but you could gage one’s timing on how long it would take you and friends to complete the gate.
Sooner than later, these gates will rust away rendering them useless. Iron should never be painted. It looks good, but water gets behind the paint and rusts away behind the paint and doesn’t let the water out. Oiling the iron is done every year in the old days. A proud Gate Keeper would’ve had his gates looking like looking honed and rubbed creating a furniture finish. Gates are a statement after all, Liken to a nice pair of polished wingtips.
Also: I anyone trespasses into house as many of these video’s show. Bring with you a Dustpan & Brush, hefty bags and a broom, and clean up as you go. Winded the windows. Show that you really do care. This looks good to prospective buyer, and the Bank. Clean and polish a section of that Entree way marble floor. Go and be good Stewards.

It is beautiful. Architecture to be proud off. And what has been done to it at the hands of certain previous owners is borderline cannibalism. The beautiful gardens or now a collection of runaway shrubbery. The insides..... most rooms have been stripped of there moldings. In those rooms, you look straight at the outer wall and the frame with pipes and wiring. Certain parts of the building have fallen victim to intense water damage due to the poor condition of the roof. The only reason this building stands today and has not collapsed is that the structure is made of stone and brick and steel supported concrete floors. So it can be saved, by someone willing to put the time and especially also the money into it.

Truly heartbreaking to see it rotting away. An exceptional real estate firm should be able to broker a deal if it even had to go to a foreign buyer!! With all the money in this country, you would think a wealthy person would step foreward with a offer. Even if restoration was done in increments, it would be worth it. Look at Newport & The Vanderbilt estate.

The story behind the house can be found in Peter A.B. Widener II's autobiography "Without Drums." www.amazon.com/dp/B08924HWV8/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=without+drums+by+widener&qid=1590426313&sr=8-1
His grandfather Peter A.B. Widener built the house. He made his early money provisioning Union Troops in the Civil War, then invested the proceeds in urban electric rail, and invested that profit in U.S. Steel.

As with so many others - this house is just way too big for any one human to live in - needs to be made into apartments so that at least the walls have some purpose. This is the nonsense of the huge wealth of the gilded age, when those wealthy folks built these places to impress. Some of them were reasonably sized & some just too gorgeous to allow to fall apart, but they can't all be saved as museums. This one does not look to me as anything particularly worth saving especially if it's insides have been ripped out anyway. Very sad, but it's obvious the price of salvaging it for something is likely not attractive to anybody - hence it just sits there unloved !

Security camers with a security guard checking the premitor of the place 3 to 6 times daily also and get that basement all cleaned out and delt with cause its a total complete mess get a plummer or a pool guy that knows his ponds and pipes and a underground power plant water system like that in there to fix it all its probably going to need all new copper pipeing copper wiring for all electrical and if not privately sold those two are pretty much mannatory that has to be put in and it needs a termite inspection which it needs to be tented also and get some elevator repair guy out to fix that elevator
