@@FogtownSeries i think you all know this from me but i would absolutely love more fogtown!! i’m telling all of my friends about it and getting them to watch and adore all of the hard work y’all put into this!!!
@@SageandDandy You’ve taken the words right out of our mouths. In fact, you’ve stolen them… thief!!! Sherblock! Come quick, we’ve got a diabolical rascal on our hands!
As a long-term Sherlock fan, who watch/ read/ listend to many Sherlock adaptations, this one is defenetly going to be one of my favourites. Incredible artstyle and storytelling.
Honestly, for a pilot, this is very well made! Love that it uses different mediums of art, especially the CG (i think that's what they're called?) parts of it, those parts doesn't feel like it's out of place, despite that you could definitely see the shifts of puppeteering to CG and to puppeteering back. This is of course, my opinion, especially from a person who is a self taught artist with only two experience of different mediums (Digital & Traditional), but overall once more, incredibly well made, amazing job by the creators of Fogtown, and will definitely make fanart of Sherblock and Blockson to show my appreciation for this craft!
@@arthuryelloweyes Thank you so much for the kind words! You’re so right that the shift is noticeable, and if the show gets more resources, we’re looking into higher quality puppet scanners so the CG shifts can be less noticeable (someone was advocating we add wires on the CG ones, and they may be onto something!) - but ideally, we’ll find ways to rely on even MORE real puppetry and pull off things practically that we couldn’t do in the past.
I AM IMPRESSED AT HOW SMOOTH THE MOVEMENTS OF THE PUPPETS ARE!!! AND I LOVE THE SETS!!!!! REALLY HOPE THAT THIS AMAZING THING GETS TO BECOME A FULL SHOW!!!!
saw people talking about this on twitter, looked interesting and i’m getting into sherlock at the moment so perfect thing for me. watched this episode and absolutely loved it, thought it was funny and well made and i wanted more immediately. clicked off and saw this video only has around 2.8k views?? WHAT?? i thought it was like super popular and i actually can’t believe that it’s not. i have no doubt that this will gain enough attention to keep going, and i’m so excited for more
I started making short films with Marionettes but shifted to Computer generated 3D characters because puppets were so limiting - I see where you are using both and the CG parts are so good it almost makes me want you to give up the puppets - I appreciate how much work went into this pilot - best of luck and God Bless
Thank you for the comment! This is from one of the crew members on-set, and it was an interesting experience - some scenes that were CGI were originally filmed on green-screen!
As a puppeteer, there's a level of charm and real-ness to physical puppets that's never going to be captured by CG. Sometimes those limits push us to get creative!
I was one of the Fogtown crew members, and got the chance to watch the episode at least 3 times before now. I absolutely love slapstick comedy and funny comebacks We will spend 2025 trying our best to get it in front of studios' eyes, so then we might hopefully get picked up to turn into a full series
I can say that if necessary, I will try to move heaven and earth to make more episodes. We’ve been developing Fogtown in this form for 4 very dedicated years, but the actual writing, character arcs, and mysteries for several seasons have already been mapped out (and re-mapped, and re-mapped again) for the past 10+ years now…. because this concept just means so very much to me.
@ first off: the entire episode was pure gold. everyone involved did absolutely amazing and it’s clear it was a project forged with love, i absolutely loved Mrs. Huds’ costume (especially the chatelaine, very historically accurate for the edwardian era!!) seriously, y’all did amazing!! i seriously hope this gets picked up by a studio, you all deserve to share this project with a ton of people who will hype it up as much as possible!!!!

Hey there fellow Maker! Thanks for stopping by our booth, and for checking out the finished release. We're feeling excited too - after the holiday season we've got a busy busy pitch period ahead of us!
Just came across this Pilot on my home page and watched this without any prior knowledge or info for this show and as a long time Sherlock Holmes fan , I AM ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED🤩🤩❤❤
This episode was so much fun!!! Wishing the best of luck to everyone involved that youre able to make as many episodes as you wish to! Delightful show!!!
Absolutely love this so so much, sherblock and blockson have such an amazing dynamic together !! You guys deserve the world, such a creative take on them and so much work too, I hope you guys get the success you deserve ❤️
Love this! Though the puppets definitely could use swappable head pieces with different expressions to help them emote. It’d make the audience (even if subconsciously) feel a lot more connected to them!
I agree! Notion here, one of the puppeteers. They do have moveable eyes and eyebrows, and even swappable eyes (you can see them at 21:35). At the beginning of filming, we weren't confident yet in making big changes to their expressions, but as we got more used to the process it became clear that we had a lot more opportunity to explore there! I don't have exact dates but I feel like we did at least a year of filming, broken up into separate segments. On A Rum Case in Fogtown (the FMV game demo) the shots were a lot simpler, and it gave us the freedom to get multiple good takes and experiment with crazy expressions. (In fact, Sean and I did 90% if the shots for that demo in one day!) So now that we have more experience, we know it's totally better when we're more bold with facial expressions. In fact I've made that note to the storyboarders: that jumping between cuts should be planned in a way that allows facial expression changes, and storyboards should include clear indication of the character's emotions. We're learning! It's just a side effect of most of the team being used to directing live actors. Pausing to evaluate a character's expression at the beginning of each shot is a new challenge.
@ Thanks for your reply! Im excited to see more with your advancements that developed throughout filming. The production overall is seriously impressive and clearly required months of work, but a year astounds me. That’s serious dedication! Id love to hear more about the BTS of the model work and production, if you have any more to share!
@@TheWoodenWilbert Now that the pilot is done, we'll definitely edit together some more behind-the-scenes videos about how we made this and what we've learned!
@@TheWoodenWilbert I checked my photo reel, looks like the first day I was on set was September 18th 2023! And it was good enough to call finished by the time it was revealed at the premiere this past August. So yeah, about a year! But as Sean has mentioned, it's been in some sort of production (building, writing, concept art, 3D modelling) for four years, and existed as an idea for a decade! The 3D models of the characters (and animals!) were made with photogrammetry, so they were all made in real life and then scanned into digital space. The background humans are made like the main characters are, while the pigeon and mouse are felted wool. The moths are pipe cleaners and fabric :) (the horse is 100% digital though, it would have been a lot of work for a quick shot) My favorite part of production is always the little unscripted gems that come up while playing around with the puppets in their space. Sherblock holding up the Mothnapper's hook, the sword knocking all the cups off the table, the chair that Blockson throws getting broken to pieces from all the shots it took. A lot of that you don't discover until you're there in person holding the wires.
This is amazing!! So funny, great for kids of all ages and adults who get the hidden humor just for us. The animation/puppetry is very cool - can’t wait for more!!

@@shjwbell191 oh my gosh, thank you for sharing that! Part of the process of making a pilot was to help us get a more critical look at our ideas and to do our best to objectively contrast them against how they actually come across in the finished result. We're so thrilled that so many people are loving it, but, if we HAD to redo the pilot, we know exactly which areas of the script (and tonal direction) would get touched up to make it gel together even better and reduce some common confusion in a couple parts. Also, one thing about our pilot that's not indicative of our vision for the full show is how limited the staging is. Here, everything is largely contained to one location because that's all we could make with our current resources, but in a full series, our detectives will be traveling quite a lot to varied locations outside of the apartment (and pub) building, which aims to give it a more adventurous tone and hopefully make it even more interesting!
