JT is a different story - you deal with the bad contract for a year and then keep him at a lower price.
Bench Marner until he waives. Retain 50% and pick up a prospect and a 1st rounder for the future. Use cash to keep Domi and Bert. Take a half step back next year. In 2025, you free up the other half of Marner's contract and are out from Tavares. I'd re-sign JT at $2m x 4 yrs to have him on the 3rd line wing. Now you have another $5M + $9m + cap increase of $4m to get a goal and some D. Maybe you get lucky developing Cowan or Minten or Grebyonkin by '25-'26.

In fact private internal surveys from audience studies reveal that even when the Leafs lose by a very small margin especially in the overtime, creates a more entertaining form of hockey for the fans.
They made the easy moves 1st. Winning cups is brutal hard work. After a long winning season, they need to play even better & play a brutal series. Example, blocking slap shots is a dangerous, brutal way to help win the series. Every cup winning team knows it & the leafs started to block shots in 2024 against Boston. They won these couple of games!
They need to run a public marketing campaign to hear what the public has to say. The slogan can be, “If Good isn’t Good Enough, then what will be Good Enough?” They need to promote this campaign all over the city. TTC, Yonge and Dundas Square, Malls, etc Put the people’s opinion to work and listen to what we the fans suggest.
I like Woll and I think he's a pretty decent goaltender, but I don't think he's ready to be a starter, the Leafs definitely need to make a trade for a quality tender (if Varlamov weren't 35, I'd suggest talking to the Islanders because they need a playmaking forward to help generate offense and I don't think there's a chance in hell they'd trade Sorokin lol)... maybe Alex Nedeljkovic from Pittsburgh but they hardly need another playmaking forward, doubt they'd have any use for Marner.
Leafs only have about 20mil in cap space with around 12 returnees. That doesn't leave a lot of room for good signings at all. Marner and Tavares need to be traded, only way I see it happening is in a 3 team trade to eat some of the cap hits.
@@bradleyhenry2411 Nothing is off the table. Matthews contract is more advantageous to other teams. Marner has been more important to the team over the last 7 years so moving Matthews wouldn't bother me. After his great season, he would bring back a really good return.

If mitch and jt don’t waive threaten to scratch them for the entire season. Final contract years for both guys so it’s in their best interest to play even if it’s not with the leafs
Simple, play the year out and hope for the best. Tell Johnny if he wants to stay he gets 3.3 for 3 years and let Marner walk. Marner can't perform in the playoffs so he is not worth more than 5 per year. You have to cut ties with Marner, there is no logical reason at all to keep him.
Tavares will resign for peanuts after next year and finish out his career as a Leaf IMO. Third line centre for league min. or cut him loose! Marner will not wave IMO and the Leafs will not resign him and will lose him to free agency for nothing! Because a new contract comes with a pay cut and the no wave clause will be not included making a sign and trade very difficult. In any case they are stuck with these guys and they have pretty much no moves to change it. Which is what i think they secretly want. I think Shanahan wants to keep them together and will shrug saying there's nothing they could do!! If anyone gets moved it might be Morgan Reiley!! Or did they give him a no movement clause also? LOL P.S. No movement clauses are stupid and should be outlawed by the league!
Canucks able to shutdown McDavid to zero shots, beat them 5-4, but ya let's talk about the Maple Leafs for 6 minutes. Playoffs aren't even over yet! What a joke.

Leafs save on the cap. Pit can start a light rebuild. That’s my guess on only deal I would make. Keep Mitch and move him mid season if nothing is working. GRIT GRIT GRIT
And then throw in JT for Malkin. And then throw in Rielly for Letang. And then throw in McCabe for Karlsson. Then throw in a bag of pucks for one of their goalies. Yea we got this.. CUP CUP CUP
Easy to hang this on certain players....cant win need new players...as I challenged others on this, feel free to show me any clip whete Marner is not dbl teamed and he does not get a shot off or pass the puck to someone who gets a gets a shot off. The only trouble with Marner is in the okayoffs the other teams know enough to smother him, the rest of the team will suffocate. Knies was good, ... suffered a similar fate. Et al. If you really watched you would have noticed it was Swayman that was the man for Boston, if you want to trade off top 5 trade them for swayman.
They reflect on the garbage contracts that they offered them. Ofc not, they try and force them out, so they can give equally garbage contracts to other players, and then be in the same boat in a few years from now. This is the Leafs we're talking about here.
Trade him to Ottawa for Jakob Chychrun. This may seem laughable at first, but keep in mind that Chychrun has a cap hit of 4.6 million which means the Leafs would get over 6 million in cap space as long as Ottawa takes all of Marner's contract. Money that could be used to sign a good free agent like Steven Stamkos. And Chychrun is a solid 40 point defenseman. He would be the Leafs 2nd best defenseman after Reilly.
@@apprenticephil649 That is why Matthews makes a better trade piece. He is already signed. But again, he would need to agree to wave his no trade clause. The Leafs won more games with Matthews out of the lineup than they won when he was out of the lineup. Unlike Marner.
@@apprenticephil649 Chychrun is also a UFA after this season. It's just one team giving up a pending UFA for another. And Chychrun has already said he has no plans to re-sign with Ottawa
Blame the fans, they have enabled the leafs brass to run the team like money factory. Every year they will buy jerseys and merchandise and buy tickets at exorbitant prices. If the fans actually cared about winning they would have stopped going to games 50 years ago.
Tell marner he isnt worth 11 mil and he doesnt take the trade tell him when his contract is over he wont be resigned again and tell him the truth if he doesnt change he will be gone send him away anyway
Not a Marner fan but if i were him I would not wave, I would play out my last year contract and sign somewhere else and the leafs will lose because they will get nothing in return
Nothing wrong with this team that a goalie who can stay healthy for more than 12 games won't fix. Both of them were out for long stretches this year. If you are going to cast aside 150 pts you better have the best goalie in the league. So do you think the Rangers are willing to trade there goalie because that's the level you will need to move forward. You are all focused on the wrong end of the rink,
The goaltending is the only thing that extended this series. And you can rag on Samsonov for all his struggles, but he allowed one goal in regulation, giving this team a chance to win. Where's the goal support from the offensive forwards making over $10M a year? They are supposed to carry this team in the crunch time, and you can't find them.
@@johnsummerhill8323I agree. I'm just saying that it could be another reason why they haven't gone further in the playoffs given how talented the core four are.

You trash their reputation as greedy SOBS and it will be addition by subtraction the end of next season
TSN please fix your crappy no one can hear audio.
your videos are always way too quiet
Or you're deaf
Yeah your deaf
Sundin declined a trade before so Marner and JT can do the same? 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Sundin was actually able to Score on Boston!
@@samdrewbies7883 🙄🙄🙄
Put them in the press box every other game?
They Won't Agree To Thank Dubias For That
Same thing coming 2025-2026. Will sell some more jerseys I guess.
Or the public could stop attending games and buying their merchandise if they really wanted to make a statement
@@apprenticephil649 I wouldn’t boycott the games to make a statement. Positive reinforcement can bring the city together.
If they sit marner all year his value will go down to 7 million for being in active
Just trade em to whoever isn’t on their list and get the best possible prospects and high end draft picks
If Marner and Tavares don’t want to their no trade clause…easy BOO them every time they touch the puck..they’ll get tired of it sooner than later
They could trade one for a quality goalie
It's absolutely what they need to do
Matthews for Demko
Neither player can be traded without consenting. I doubt that will happen. I would ask Matthews to waive his no trade and trade him to a US team.
@johnsummerhill8323 there's no way they try trade Matthews after extending him. Those NMCs are killing the Leafs.
@@bradleyhenry2411 Nothing is off the table. Matthews contract is more advantageous to other teams. Marner has been more important to the team over the last 7 years so moving Matthews wouldn't bother me. After his great season, he would bring back a really good return.
Still talking about the Leafs eh. There are other Canadian teams still playing you know that right lol 😂😂😂😂
Lol u summed it up no one cares you know lol 😅😅😅😅😅
@@JoshFran i mean they spent weeks talking about 70 instead of playoffs because they know theyre trash. They also know shanahan is the problem but they don't bring that up, weird hey, almost like its basically just pr for the team.
Just healthy scratch JT and Mitch until they agree to a trade. In a place Vegas - Mitch might actually have a real chance to win a Stanley Cup. 😀 Sincerely, good luck wherever you are traded Mitch. 😀
Yeah just healthy scratch $23 million in cap salary. Good idea!😂😂😂
@@apprenticephil649 Just until they agree to trades.
@@apprenticephil649 My guess is sitting healthy in the press box - they agree to trades quickly. 😀😀
Marner is not a physical player, but so is Panarin, and so was Patrick Kane
If they won't accept a trade tell them they are now becoming part of the new "D" core.
Fans are outrage this needs to stop everyone laughing at the leafs can't get it done 4 guys talking most of the close to 50 million insane
The fraud makes some great points.
It's wild how long it took people to see dubas was destroying the team. It's wild that shanny was going to rehiring the donkey. The team is epicly screwed for the next 3 yrs and possibly decade if they don't sell some stuff and get some picks again.
Who can they sell? To whom? This team is screwed
They still win with Matthews out of the lineup. Ask him to waive his no trade. Marner has neen more valuable over the years .
Hayes nailed it 😁🇨🇦
Shanahan has not proven he is capable of being in charge
$11,000,000... no state income tax... theyll both pick Florida Tampa or Dallas. Guaranteed
If mitch and jt don’t waive threaten to scratch them for the entire season. Final contract years for both guys so it’s in their best interest to play even if it’s not with the leafs
Can't be done. Don't be stupid.
Yeah just scratch 23 mil in salary and get worse. Good idea!😂😂😂
Neither are going to waive. Mitch walks and JT resigns back on as a 3rd line center
Move the team to Quebec City and leave Tavares ana Marner in Tranna
I could listen to Brian Hayes read off car lease contracts verbatim.
Just don't resign Marner, lots of good UFA's in summer of '25. He'll lose a year on his contract though. . .
They Cant Move His Contract Its Goin To Cost A 1 Or 2 Round Pick
Shanahan, one first round in 8 years. With him still in charge it’s going to more of the same useless BS…
Goes to show the type of organization. He built a house of cards but he's still employed. 😂
Trade Marner,Tavares ,Reilly.....try to get Crosby, some big physical defenceman..and use Woll as starting goalie
6 Leafs videos in the last 5 hours. Wow.
Largest market largest news story. Obviously
Canucks able to shutdown McDavid to zero shots, beat them 5-4, but ya let's talk about the Maple Leafs for 6 minutes. Playoffs aren't even over yet! What a joke.
Yes, you are. Nice of you to admit it!
may i remind you that tsn owns 1/3rd of the leafs and don't,give a flying f*ck about any other team..thast;s why tsn is referred to as toronto sports network.
The core 4 need to pull a Tom Brady: take a pay cut for the team to get the players needed to win.
This isn’t the NFL bro. Contracts don’t get restructured.
Just suck it up for the year, not much they can really do if both don't wanna go.
If They were to trade Mitch. It should be to Pittsburgh. Crosby has 1 year left and Crosby will be 37.Crosby + 2 players for Mitch & a 4 th .As long as Sidney signs a 4 year deal. Leafs save on the cap. Pit can start a light rebuild. That’s my guess on only deal I would make. Keep Mitch and move him mid season if nothing is working. GRIT GRIT GRIT
😂 Other than Sid not going to TO and retiring a Pen, great idea, Tessier 👍
And then throw in JT for Malkin. And then throw in Rielly for Letang. And then throw in McCabe for Karlsson. Then throw in a bag of pucks for one of their goalies. Yea we got this.. CUP CUP CUP
Turning the penguins into the leafs good idea
i think you extend marner at a good deal and trade tavares
Easy to hang this on certain players....cant win need new players...as I challenged others on this, feel free to show me any clip whete Marner is not dbl teamed and he does not get a shot off or pass the puck to someone who gets a gets a shot off. The only trouble with Marner is in the okayoffs the other teams know enough to smother him, the rest of the team will suffocate. Knies was good, ... suffered a similar fate. Et al. If you really watched you would have noticed it was Swayman that was the man for Boston, if you want to trade off top 5 trade them for swayman.
why is no one talking about trading Rielly. He sucks
Who's taking JT unless Toronto retains cap and further depletes their depleted pool? Doesn't fix a thing.
They do alot of winning during the regular season but not during the playoffs
Prepare for another season of fail which we all know is coming.
They reflect on the garbage contracts that they offered them.
Ofc not, they try and force them out, so they can give equally garbage contracts to other players, and then be in the same boat in a few years from now. This is the Leafs we're talking about here.
We boo them... Every... Single... Night...
You don't understand what a no trade contract is.
Why the hell would any team, even Ottawa take on an 11.5 million cap hit AND give up assets for Marner in an RFA year?😂😂😂😂😂
@@apprenticephil649 That is why Matthews makes a better trade piece.
@@chrispswann6825He is not a great defenceman. The Leafs are not going to be interested in him.
It will cost you more to move JT than it will to let him walk.
Keeping keeping shanahan is a weak move !!!
Not a Marner fan but if i were him I would not wave, I would play out my last year contract and sign somewhere else and the leafs will lose because they will get nothing in return
Fine. Marnwr can be a healthy scratch every game.
Yeah you tell em
Nothing wrong with this team that a goalie who can stay healthy for more than 12 games won't fix. Both of them were out for long stretches this year. If you are going to cast aside 150 pts you better have the best goalie in the league. So do you think the Rangers are willing to trade there goalie because that's the level you will need to move forward. You are all focused on the wrong end of the rink,
lol.. really. theyve scored 2 or less in 13 of the last 14 playoff games.. wow delusional.. a goalie aint fixing that
The goaltending is the only thing that extended this series. And you can rag on Samsonov for all his struggles, but he allowed one goal in regulation, giving this team a chance to win. Where's the goal support from the offensive forwards making over $10M a year? They are supposed to carry this team in the crunch time, and you can't find them.
How does that fix their problem of not being able to score?
Here's another interesting historical fact. Brendan Shanahan was hired on the 24th anniversary of Harold Ballard's death.
Ballard's teams rarely made the playoffs. Shanahan's teams always make the playoffs.
@@johnsummerhill8323I agree. I'm just saying that it could be another reason why they haven't gone further in the playoffs given how talented the core four are.
@@mastertonef As long as you realize that the only goal for a Canadian team is to go further. They cannot win a Cup the way things are setup in the NHL. It is being run by Americans in order to only allow the Cup to be won by American teams.
